Was waiting for someone to come up with this. You think stunning animals less cruel but do you have any idea what animals go through before they're stunned? The horrible transportation conditions, then waiting in fear , smelling death that preceded theirs? Ultimately, halal and kosher slaughter is far quicker than the prolonged terror experienced by foxes, chased to exhaustion for much longer by dozens of tally-ho bugle blowing ponces and packs of baying hounds until cornered, and while still conscious, torn to pieces. You may think other forms of slaughter are better, but you're not the animal waiting for it, are you? The truth is that even ritual slaughter isn't done for fun and games and is over a whole lot quicker and cleaner (despite the abhorrence of all slaughter) than hunting foxes to death as a fun sport.

@@glenp3985 halal and kosher slaughter have no place in our country as we have our own type of slaughter so we shouldn't offer halal or kosher slaughter just to appease people who follow religions that have nothing to do with this country. If they want to integrate they should eat what we eat! Fox hunting is nothing compared to cruetly inflicted on animals due to halal and kosher slaughter.

Religions that have "nothing to do with this country." And there was I thinking that Great Britain allowed freedom of religion, belief and choice. Animal stunning was introduced only 90 years ago and before that it was just as cruel, so you can cut the self-righteousness. "Your" type of slaughter includes cruelly separating mothers from calves and dosing them with hormones so they're constantly lactating in order to give you your milk and cheese. Battery egg production is the same, and horribly cruel. "Your " type of slaughter also includes depriving calves of sunlight so you get your veal, force-feeding animals for pate de fois gras, and grinding unwanted chicks to death in the thousands. "Us" good, "them" bad. That's what it's about when it comes down to dust.

Why not give the British public a referendum on it, let the PEOPLE decide?

I live in a rural area of North Yorkshire, I am not adverse to culling foxes, they are a rural pest, but chasing them with dogs isn’t the way to do it. The hunts hate people shooting foxes and taking their future quarry away, they set up artificial fox earths for them to breed in. They are also a bunch of pompous snobs who think they have the right to trespass on whatever piece of land they wish to, I’ve even been stopped on roads by them so they can gallop across the highway.

I ran an animal rescue centre and belonged to an animal rights group the group had a load of videos of the hunt and the kill. It was watching the videos that changed my mind about fox hunting the kill in each video showed 3 to 4 seconds and the fox was in several pieces. I have also seen foxes that have been shot that take days or even weeks to die either of the wound or starve as they could not feed themselves. The quickest way is with the hounds? But maybe you prefer the fox to suffer? Murdering lettuces is your thing? As they cut lettuce the next row scream t is all up there on the web if you look?

@@johnharding6394 it’s not about the kill, it’s about the trauma and stress of the chase, I eat meat by the way, I also shoot foxes with a .247 rifle and I never misplace a shot. Chasing quarry with dogs whether it be by a group of toffs dressed in red or a rabble of travellers poaching hares is illegal.

I don't believe in hunting unless it's for eating whatever you hunt to feed yourself with in reason ! I don't think foxes should be hunted !

I'm with you hunting for food good killing for sport not good. Live stock holder have the means to cull pests try trapping and kill the fox humanely. . I use to go ratting years ago and they do far more damage than the foxes

Vermin control has to take place around farms where food is produced.

The fox is a magnificent animal but also a pest to sheep farmers. At present it is being shot on a huge scale at night with high tech weapons and at the present rate will be near to extinction, such is the rate of extermination. This needs urgent attention.

Foxes are killers on an industrial scale when it comes to domestic poultry and lambs. Their numbers need to be controlled and shooting using night vision and fox callers is both humane and efficient. Other vermin needing to be controlled are corvids, grey squirrels and rats. This woman undoubtedly lives in London and has no appreciation of country life.

@@johnmarsh2078 . I’m old enough to remember otter hunting. It was banned very easily in the 1970s . The otter became a protected species by an act act of Parliament and overnight it ended. Although fox hunting was banned , no one ever mentioned that foxes would be protected. They were always classed as vermin.

They, too, could do with a lot more control. What do you propose for those vermin? Fox hunting parties with horses and hounds has nothing to do with "country life". It's long been associated with a certain class of well-to-do lords of the manor, none of whom own chickens or lambs.

Have to say Nigel that I agree with absolutely everything you say normally, but on this particular matter I have to disagree. The lady made some very compelling points, and it was uncharacteristic of you to interrupt and simply talk over your debate partner - I expect that from the woke presenters in the MSM! Trail hunting appears to be a front for actual fox hunting, as a dog owner I and many others would be outraged if people started fighting dogs for fun/sport. It’s unethical to seek pleasure in setting a pack of dogs on a fox for entertainment. There is also a massive difference in a farmer shooting a fox to protect his livelihood and people enjoying dogs shredding foxes for the fun of it.

I've supported Nigel for many years and never suspected he was in favour of fox hunting . I and the rest of the British public regard it as animal cruelty and are overwhelmingly opposed to it. Trail hunting is OK in theory but seems to be a front for real fox hunting so should be banned too. I generally think of PETA as a bunch of leftie extremists but on this subject they are absolutely right.

Extreme on both sides ! I’m a small holder and pests need to be controlled. There is no place in today’s world for fox hunting by horse & with dogs. They do it where I live and most of the land owners detest them. It’s barbaric. Any farmer or landowner can either shoot or get someone to shoot the pest humanly with the technology we have. I have night vision and the foxes rabbits and rats don’t know a thing 1 headshot done ! Painless & instant. Unlike my livestock being eaten alive ! Ban the horse and hounds completely there’s no need for it ! Tell em all to take up dressage instead !

Exactly. We need to change the term from "fox hunting" to "blood sport" to highlight the difference between hunting for food and hunting for a perverse form of entertainment. The proponents of this blood sport love to claim that opponents to it "don't understand the country," but it's them who don't understand the difference between quick and efficient pest eradication out of necessity and the ritualistic practices in fox hunting parties.

The problem with debating this issue is that too many people see Foxes as fluffy pseudo-dogs and have no idea what it takes to control them. I would agree that it shouldn't be done for sport but using well trained dogs to dispatch a fox quickly with a bite to the throat is by far the most humane way to kill the animal and is no different than what happens in nature and is in fact better than the way a fox kills its prey. For those obvious non-shooters saying 'use a gun', it is very difficult to shoot a fox. For one, they are predominantly nocturnal and even if you do see them during the day it is often several hundred metres away at the edge of a field and even if you have a gun and can shoot in their direction (which isn't a given) you are aiming for a six inch square target that is low, slinky and moving. If you miss, they run off, wounded and die a slow, painful death. For the same reason you can't poison them or trap them.

During this conversation a Fox was killed by a Hunt with hounds in Hertfordshire while trial hunting, the hunt phoned the police to 'report an incident' and offered to 'help with enquiries'. Now more people will run around organising a prosecution, appear in court with lawyers and barristers and even more costumes and uniforms to watch drone and camera footage of a dead Fox killed by a pack of hounds, no Hen House, crazy driver or dog walker will get mentioned because there weren't any involved, just a Hunt breaking the law and a phone call to prove it 1 minute before it could be stopped by others ... or 2 minutes before it could have been stopped by the hunt or 17 years before it should have been stopped by an act of parliament. Seems odd all those well fed wealthy men and women, pack of hounds, horses, fanfare, uniforms and bush whackers (literally) against a slim and delicate beautiful little creature that minds it's own business and stays out of everyone's way? how annoying is that for every foul mouthed nasty nut job on horseback who can't do the same because a torn apart bloody mess makes it all worth while? that'd be a physiological disorder wouldn't it, a 500 year old one. last year it was a man in his wife's kimono after putting food in his bin .. kind of proves the point.

I don't entirely disagree with what this young lady says, but unfortunately it seems to fall into the cancel culture thing again doesn't it. I would also ask her if she's a vegan; because like it or not, both the dairy (including eggs) and meat industry still retain some very cruel and heartless practices even today. It is Unfortunate that animal cruelty does exist before death as we all know. I am a meat eater myself and I always hope that the animal involved was slaughtered in the kindest possible way. That is something that should be strictly monitored no matter the animal. You are not a hypocrite because it is beyond your control or knowledge. And yes cancel culture is also damaging our vital history and science.

It’s worrying how many people don’t know what trail hunting is and are confusing it with actual foxhunting or hunting other animals.

You can't compare a fox seeking a chicken with a human barbarically goading a pack of hounds to seek and destroy for their upper-class traditional snobbery. If a man keeps chickens for eggs then it is naturally, his responsibility to cement the coup floor so the fox can't burrow. And since when were foxes a menace to the world? They are beautiful and no less deserving of food than you or I. Period.

You say that hunting on horseback is not effective. Think about what your own words mean. The one truly effective fox control would be to lay poison, possibly strychnine, which kills everything living, and with certainty: I believe that death from strychnine is both painful and wretched: we give it to rats and mice, stoats, weasels, hedgehogs, crows - and to the cats and dogs that accidentally come across it.

Hunting foxes is absolutely barbaric.

“People who enjoy riding their horses and ripping an animal to pieces” How is this in any way a healthy way to treat any living being? How would you like to be ripped to pieces by an army of canines? There shouldn’t be anything enjoyable about slowly torturing an animal to death

Also, what a ridiculous thing to say “have you ever been into a hen house after a Fox has been there?” It’s a fucking animal, Nigel, for crying out loud. They will eat whateve they can in order to survive; they have no choice. We as humans have a choice not to participate in activities. The whole point is is that human beings are choosing to contribute to animal cruelty. You have no basis for an argument against this.

I like hunting i only make a kill to eat you have an animal killed for your food half of it is thrown away I don’t like anyone who hunts for sport if u hunt you can use all parts of the animal

Bring back Fox Hunting It is the Quickest death for the fox? Have you seen a lamb up to one year old killed by the poor little Fox? She is a lefty town girl and does not understand it is crual to shoot and wound and let them die very slow.

It was watching the videos that changed my mind about fox hunting the kill in each video was 3 to 4 seconds and the fox was in several pieces. I have also seen foxes that have been shot that take days or even weeks to die either of the wound or starve as they could not feed themselves. The quickest way is with the hounds? But maybe you prefer the fox to suffer? Murdering lettuces is your thing? As they cut lettuce the next row scream it is all up there on the web if you look?

I have to say I find it reprehensible that people would want to chase an animal with the object of seeing ripped to pieces with hounds ...So yes I'm glad this is now illegal, however I do accept that there has to be an allowance for these hunts to continue Drag hunting but with the proviso that it is monitored and heavily fined if it stray outside the law..

@@artfullpodger1413 First, that’s not what I was referring to, in this instance, in regards to rudeness. It was Nigel talking over the young ladies answers, and interrupting her answers. Second, in a debate, personal attacks, like yours, “You hate animals clearly,” are used when a debater (in this instance, you) does not have valid information to refute the claims of the person( s) that is being debated. The young lady representing PETA was correct in that this question had nothing to do with Fox Hunting. Finally, Fox Trail Hunting has not been banned on private property, nor has shooting a Fox that has been killing one’s chickens. It is my understanding that Fox Trail Hunting has only been banned on Public lands.

The reason Nigel spoke over her and a lot of people on the left is because you simply don’t state anything factual , you just talk about your emotions and how it makes you feel. I don’t care how it makes you feel , I care about facts , logic , data and truth something that PETA knows nothing about.

I am a vegetarian going on vegan and It's so refreshing to see impartial news interviewers. This is why I have abandoned the BBC and gone to GB news. Now if fox numbers need to be controlled then there are better ways of doing it as opposed to fox hunting. Well done PETA for doing so well on the interview.

You won't believe this but there are "people" that breed cows and pigs and sheep and hens and ducks and turkeys - "just for the purpose of killing them". Isn't that surprising? I was shocked when I heard about it.
