The position of geen and niet drove me crazy when I started to learn Dutch, I still can't give exact examples of how it is placed, but I have one thing to comment on: practice makes it (almost :p) perfect. Now I can use it almost all correct, because I have practiced a lot and the way of using it will be in your mind when you are very familiar with it

I was having so much difficulty understanding when to use Geen and Niet, and after watching this video I now have a much better understanding of when to use one over the other and where to place them in sentences. I was so confused because I was seeing Niet placed almost everywhere in sentences, but now it makes so much more sense. Thank you SO much for explaining this so well! You are an awesome teacher!!!

at school in belgium, the teachers tell us to use the “r” just like in french and not to do it like the “english accent” type. i don’t really know why. and also, this helped me so much, thank you!

I think in almost all cases people will still understand you, unless there is an ambiguity, but don't worry! Just practice and you will do great!

Hi Kim! Kun je misschien uitleggen hoe het zit met negatie van eigennamen? "Ik ben Jan niet" of "ik ben niet Jan" of ik ben geen Jan?, Voor niet-levende zelfstandige naamwoorden lijkt mij dat geen beter op zijn plaats is. "Dit is geen Frankrijk". Toch?

Here you negate “met Elise”. Otherwise you get another sentence: “Elise en ik gaan niet op vakantie”

Great video, I have a question, has anyone ever proposed reform in the language so it can be more consitent when it comes to negative? There are many professors around the world who are currently on this mission. I call these professors Language Reformists. I find these ambiguities in Dutch unecessary. The people of the Royal Kingdom of the Nederlands are so industrious, I have visited your country 5 times, and I love it, but the negative form in the language is hell.

You're welcome! And in this sentence "dit" is a "introduction demonstrative". We can only use "dit" or "dat" for this: "Dit is mijn auto" or "dat is mijn auto". It's like in English: "This/that is my car". If the demonstrative was right before the noun, then it would be: "deze auto is van mij" (because yes, it's de auto!)

Dutch Language Academy Oh, oh! It’s because of Latin in English “orange the colour” and “orange the colour” are the same word! XD Yeah! Dutch has Latin too! But it’s very Germanic heavy that’s why wor colour is “oranje” and wor fruit is; “sinaasappel” I think! XD That makes sense! ;) Still! Some of English homonyms can be very questionable too! ;) I.E “the bat” The only flying mammal and something that you use in sports and why the hell did we English invent a sport and call it “cricket” after the insect I don’t know! It makes no sense! 😝😝😝😝😂😂😂😂 But I’ll tell ya one thing, we English LOVE wor most popular sports and obviously football is number 1! 😂😂😂😂

De tweede is juist. “Niet” komt na het definiete substantief (jouw naam) en voor de infinitief “herinneren” :)
