Ahhh I played this back in high school and it got me through some tough times. And I must say this is my favorite game ever. Brother Nier grew on me, the new music grew greater on me, the gameplay made me feel less bad for killing Shades because it was now fun. I also kinda like old design Kainé but new one isn't so bad. The extra sweet bits of lore that connect to Automata and Drakengard are just cherries on top of a massively delicious cake! Oh and I also loooove City of Commerce for some reason haha but my favorite dramatic battle theme would have to go to Emil Karma in this new version, it just gets my imagination and attention going I love it so much. Nerdgasm over.

I like the visual novel bits. Its good writing. DEFINITELY weird thing to put in this kind of game. I love this series and am so hyped to get to voice of cards

Being a fan of Automata with that being my first experience of the work of Yoko Taro I prayed for a new version of the original NieR and my prayers were answered with this amazing new version of Replicant! Quite a wild crazy ride the part for ending E was and a satisfying ride too! One game that came out a month back that was done by Yoko Taro himself and other colleagues of his from NieR and Drakengard projects is a game called Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars which is a card based game that plays like a table top game and it is a turn based RPG where you have companions along the way as you progress in a Dragon Quest/old school Final Fantasy style standard! The game itself is said to be quite easy for people who know how to play RPG titles until the final boss as well as some optional secret bosses. I'm currently in either chapter 5 or 6 in my first playthrough of Voice of Cards and I'm loving it so far. Great video btw!

Your reviews are so good :) Great to see all the improvements they made, and I really needed that reminder about the backtracking/padding because I platinum'd the game back in ps3 times and despite how cool it all is, I can't make myself go through that again!

Dang forgot all the walking you gotta do. I remember picking up dad nier way back. After school that calm music had me falling asleep. There was only one copy left me and this dude were reaching for it. I looked at him..and he looked at me. Then the guy at the counter said, "I got one more!" Awesome review Pelvic. It's always fascinating to hear everyone's different takes on the NieR series. I personally adore the Forest of Myth and find it one of the most refreshing changes of pace in any game I've ever played, however, I can also see why some would find it insufferable. Yet, that's the beauty of this series, it's never afraid to throw you a curve ball and it always sticks with it long enough to leave a real impact.

So glad you enjoyed Replicant, especially Ending E! I don't normally have big external reactions when playing games, but when the final boss fight of Ending E reached its apex, you better believe I was cheering and jumping around lol

Great review loved this game first time with the original Nier plot/game after starting with automata. Would love to have the patience to garden a lunar tear fish and upgrade weapons to finally get the platinum for this

this was the first game i bought after i got an xbox series x. i legit couldn’t have made a better choice. this has probably become my favorite video game story, and there are moments in the finale that still made me cry after every repeat playthrough.

This game is an all timer for me. I agree with everything you said, although I think doing the other routes can get a litttttttle bit repetitive, but my god is it worth it for the story. It also has some incredible writing all the dialogue from the main characters feel like there's a real group of 4 friends of misfits running around it's incredible

The writing and story exposition saved the game imo. All endings made me feel super emotional

As someone who only moderately enjoyed Automata (sue me i know) I wasnt expecting much from Replicant but it turned out to be one of my favorite games Ive played in a long time. As Ive gotten in my 30s it’s hard for games to evoke any sort of real emotion out of me anymore. This game made me cry like actual tears lol. Absolutely loved it

@@seph--- If I had to guess? More commercially available and widely more praised at the time? More people also had better PCs, or stronger consoles than the ps3/360 era. And not everyone owned them. But the ps4/Xbox One generation, they were just more available. Also probably less technological frustration. Going from a PS4, to a PS3 for example, you just feel the drag lmao. Ps5 to ps3 is just... yeaaah. You should get what I mean from here. But Nier Gestalt also wasn't as well received. Automata had a lot going for it in terms of presentation to stand out, especially with how it was advertised. The Demo alone gave you an idea what type of game it might be just from the opening. So it just had a good hook for it's commercial success and viability. That is just my guess.

Very glad this game got the polish and shine that it deserved! Although the material grind is just as bad as the original, and I wish that wasn’t preserved, the new additions of cosmetics and music made the trekking a bit more pleasant And Ending E was definitely worth the pain of grabbing the platinum trophy again!

I really liked Replicant. I never finished the og game, so I'm glad to hear someone who liked the og also enjoyed this version!!

I loved Nier back on 360 and worked through to the fourth ending and then missed out Automata for no particular reason. Think I’ll get this first before trying Automata x

Really liked your video. However it got me curious if your purposely left out a significant addition to the remake that occurs in the 2nd part of the game the one in Seafront to avoid spoilers or if you thought that it wasn't as good as to note it in the review. Either way would love to know your thoughts on it. Again, glad to know you liked this game!

@@PelvicGaming yeah, this is the kind of game where I really wanna go in completely blind. I had no expectations for Nier Automata as it was my first foray into anything Yoko Taro, and me and my girlfriend played it together and loved it! Hopefully we feel the same about this one.

Agreed with pretty much everything yeah! And BOY do I agree about the soundtrack! I liked it well enough, but there were some songs that just...well I won't say they were "butchered," but they really lost a lot of their power. Temple of Drifting Sands moving to more instrumental focus instead of those AMAZING vocals just hit the wrong way and made me really upset.

This is such a beautiful, emotionally moving game. The characters feel SO authentic and realistic. I actually did all the sidequests (I thought it was required to get all the endings lol). Even though they're a drag, and some of them just suck (and most are fetch questy sadly) I really enjoyed all of the world texture that the sidequests added. Without spoilers, a few of those definitively got me in the heart strings. ...That said, I wish they had made them less fetchy, because they do waste a LOT of time doing mostly uninteresting things, with a few notable exceptions. And I also wish that endings B-D you could just get back to back to back, without having to replay it so much. One replay makes sense, given how it affects the story in several of the cutscenes and party chatter, but after that there's no reason for it. Maybe a "Skip dungeon" or "skip boss" button would have fixed this? idk. Also, maybe I'm weird but I really liked the reading part lol... I thought it was fun.

If you in any way appreciate a more melancholic feel or, perhaps a darker tone, this story is unmatched. Probably only rivaled by it's sequel, Automata.

I need to finish playing NieR. I stopped playing a little bit ago due to our family’s dog passing away. Go figure the place I stopped at was the second ending route wolf story quest, the one that always breaks me. Your review of the first NieR was the first video I saw on your channel. You have come a long way since then and I couldn’t be prouder. I loved this review as I did the first one. Your craft has evolved, but it’s still the same Lady Pelvic, totally awesome. Keep up the great work~ Also, I didn’t know you could switch the OST. How did I miss that?

The text adventure stuff bogged it down for me but beside that every thing else is great!

Completely want to play the original. So glad to hear your take.... Odd thing is as a guy who is attracted to women I always preferred pretty guys... But I guess that's most guys who enjoy these genres.

Absolutely loved Automata so will have to get this

The side quests were made to be monotonous and annoying on purpose as a kind of subversion of typical RPG content. Literally the only reason I even bothered was because they were voiced and I'm glad I did because I love these characters so much when i finally finished ending E I just wanted even more.

I’m also in the camp where I played the original and loved it but this is definitely the easier experience in terms of gameplay. The stuff they added to the story is where the hard part is 😂. That abandoned ship quest made me end my livestream…like fuck 😭

I need to pick this up. Absolutely LOVED the original. Kaine is one of the best characters EVER!! She made me laugh, cry, all the emotions. I love that they gave such a gorgeous "delicate" woman character (design wise) such a tough, potty mouthed attitude. We just don't see that...well ever. I just wished her outfit had a bit more fabric haha It's just hilariously too far and can take you out of the moment sometimes. This coming from a 100% gay man lol Anywho. Amazing review as always! Can't wait to check this out!

The new soundtrack honestly threw me off a few times, especially with the boss themes. Really wish we could switch to the OG. Fleeting Words is GORGEOUS though lol

I gave this game an 8/10, wouldve been a 9,5/10 if it wasnt so damn repetitive. Gameplay barely evolves throughout the game and as you said: So. Much. Backtracking. PlUS the fact the game makes you replay parts of the game ad nauseam. Honestly the only game who made me feel like i had to speedrun to not get totally burnt with it.

NieR Replicant became one of my favorite games, is just an incredible game.

Probably my favorite game story of all time , still my attachment for papa Nier will never go away . Ending E was a huge payoff for me since Gestalt ending D.

Neir is goated if you haven’t played Hades yet you should really it’s a good game

I feel like Yoko Taro, like Hideo Kojima, really needs someone looking over his shoulder to tell him, every now and again, that not everything unique, quirky and original is fun to play. Thanks for the review!

Fishing, town building or farming will turn into the entire reason I play a game 80 hours, and might be half through the story... I'm not admitting to the same happening with card games, blitzball, battle arenas or any carnival-style mini games. I just won't.

Great review! I like the combat, story and characters so much, but the game structure is just god awful. I never have and never will earn Ending E myself, too much repetition. And collecting every weapon is just NOT FUN. I always watch it on youtube and I'm happy to that way.

Prefer Automata overall. But this one is great! Improved combat but it still gets old especially grinding all the way to ending E 😰. Story is excellent. Music is excellent. You are too right about the side quests. Worth playing to experience the story regardless

For real going through C and D burn me out so hard (apri) ...that nooowwww am going for the D ending 😂😂😂😂. (But ma ga the tear dropping of this game and the story is just knife to the chest + the soundtrack) when even the game be like "yeah lets move on from the jaw dropping of all we just told you". And i was like gurrrlsss how u know my jaw just dropped from all the revelation u told me"

Oh I agree. I mean eventually you become numb to the atrocities you're commiting. Like ending C and D ...there is NO REASON why we had to replay it twice for those. It's literally the same thing but choose a different option at the end. I think what would have REALLY brought ending B around was if (SPOILERS ending E) you played as Kaine like you do in ending E.
