Went there with my family just before COVID hit in Mar ‘19 and it’s a great park. Everything was open. My family laughed at me for saying that TMNT Shell Shock was my favorite but it’s just so unique! Wife got to shop while the kids and I spent all day with rides and mini golf. And the food choices in the mall are really good. If you go, don’t miss out on the rest that Minneapolis and St Paul have to offer. Minnehaha Falls is a great hiking area. St Paul has great museums. And kids will love the Peanuts statues all over downtown St Paul.

Plus Valleyfair and both the Como Zoo and Minnesota Zoo are just a few miles away. Very easy to plan a 3-4 day vacation in the Summer, book a nice hotel and spend each day at each park, zoo, and wherever. Book a time in the last week of August, and we also have the MN State Fair right in the middle of the Twin Cities.

The forecast for the MOA today (1/25/22) is a high of +2° and a low tonight of -17°. There is a wind chill advisory stating that the air could feel like it is -35°. That said, many locals just love the MOA as a place to take a nice long walk in the wintertime with the sunshine and real plants and trees. The doors actually open at 6:00 am for people who want to get their walk in before the stores and attractions open. I never went that early, but I loved walking the mall in the morning.

One really interesting thing the MOA log flume does is that they designed the splashdowns in a way where you won't get completely wet - just a fast drop and a nice mist. Which is very important considering you are indoors in the middle of a mall. You definitely wouldn't want to walk around the stores all soggy in the middle of winter.

I went to the Mall of America on my birthday trip back in December. I had the time of my life, it was hella fun, and as a diehard Nickelodeon fan, I adored it! My favorite rides were the Fairly Odd Coaster, Avatar Airbender, Shredder’s Mutant Masher, and Wonder Pets’ Flyboat. I visited from Arizona to Bloomington, MN. It was so worth the wait! The only ride I didn’t get to go on was BrainSurge since it was under maintenance.

I have been to mall of America and Nickelodeon universe I’ll I’ll say, to this day after being to about 15 different parks, it’s my favorite park when not considering roller coasters. I have not been to the one in New Jersey but I think I’m going to within the next 2 years and I have one question. Are parents free to enter if they are just watching their child because my brother is younger than me and when we go he might want to go on those rides but I can say for sure my parents are not paying that fee just to enter. By the way, great video, I agree with your points.

Btw, the Flying Dutchman ropes course and zipline is a separate thing you have to pay for too. As a Minnesotan (lived here all my life), I've been to Nickelodeon Universe in MoA at least 3 times. Before it was Nickelodeon Universe, it was owned by Knotts Berry Farm (weird right?) and went by the name Camp Snoopy. I was born towards the end of that era but I'm sure I went at least once despite having no recollection of it.

As someone who's gone to both parks multiple times, they both have their ups and downs. Valleyfair has a ton more rides but it's outside and Minnesota weather is unpredictable. @@princessravendiamond4288 Valleyfair has the better coaster collection. Nickelodeon Universe has a nice collection of diverse flat rides, which made me feel like there was more to do there. But, Valleyfair has a nice waterpark, which I did spend some time in. It was a fun 2 days.

  • @princessravendiamond4288

Oh man, I don't even remember the last time I actually went to the Waterpark section of Valleyfair. In fact I don't remember if I actually have ever done anything in there other than look around. Pretty cool that it's actually included in the park admission. It's funny because I always thought that it was something you had to pay extra for. Both Valleyfair and Nickelodeon Universe have a good diversity of rides, with Valleyfair obviously having more. I do find it funny that they have close to the same number of coasters (not counting kiddie coasters). Nick has 3 (SpongeBob, Fairy Odd Coaster, and Orange Streak) and Valleyfair has 5 (Steel Vengeance, Wild Thing, High Roller, Renegade, and Excalibur). Nickelodeon Universe may not have any room to expand at this point but surprisingly Valleyfair still has quite a bit of land still available for use. And yet, Cedar Fair still gets rid of rides and replaces them with something not as popular (or in the case of Mild Thing, now Wildcat at Cedar Point, don't get replaced at all)

  • @OklahomaCoasterFan

The two names are so similar that it's hard to remember that they aren't the exact same name. I mean, you could call them both Steve! I went to Valleyfair this past summer and rode two of the coasters for the first time: Corkscrew and Steel Venom. In fact, Steel Venom ended up being my favorite ride because it caught me off guard when it suddenly did that jolting thing at the top of the straight spike. Four or so years ago I went to Nickelodeon Universe and for the first time rode something that went upside: Bikini Bottom Rock Bottom Plunge or however it's spelled out. Now I know that I'm not so scared of looping coasters!

I was just here with my friends just over a week ago. We just got point passes and did the thrill rides on Friday, however the Log Chute is currently only operating on weekend days, so we came back Saturday just for that and it was totally worth it. Easily my favorite ride in the park and considering the queue for it is always the longest I think it is the main attraction when it is open for sure. I have been to this park about a dozen times in my life and can confirm there is never music playing. Typically on a busy saturday it gets loud enough in the park where it is not needed. My friends flew up from Cincinnati just to come here because the log flume is now operating on the weekend days, and they say it is their favorite mall. Due to the proximity to MSP Int'l airport, and the connection via the Blue Line light rail, if you have a long layover at MSP MOA is a short 10 minute train ride away.

I totally agree about the quiet-ness of the park! I couldn't quite put my finger on it at first. I went to the park a few months ago, and I went alone because my friend I was visiting had to work that day. And yes, even though the park was full of people and vibrant and exciting, it was oddly quiet. Standing in line became a bit awkward because it's so silent standing next to everybody. I guess it's like that all the time. That is one major yet pretty cheap modification they could make... just cover the place in speakers and blast Nickelodeon music all day. But I agree with your review; loved this park!!

My family would visit the Mall of America almost yearly when I was young, making the 8 hour drive south from Winnipeg. We rarely took part in the rides at the mall, as we usually would hit up Valley Fair instead, but I have fond memories of the sounds, the smell, and the ambiance of the park, walking through, or having lunch in an upper floor the overlooks the park/sits right next to the log chute. It makes me happy just thinking about it, and even just walking through it is an experience all in itself. It feels crazy that I have such strong happy memories of a park which 90% of my time was spent just walking around, rather than participating in the rides As a dad now, my wife and I are planning on taking our daughter to experience the mall soon, and build her own memories, but this time actually ride the rides!

Hey! Your review and perspective on this park is spot on! I actually work at the M&Ms store right next to the park. The log flume recently has only been open on “busy” days which from what I’ve heard is mainly due to staffing. As for the park being quiet…I’ve never realized it and now that you mention it I agree lol. I’ve worked in this mall for 5 yrs now and never really noticed it. I can say it’s nice to go on break from work and ride a coaster 😁. Headed towards 200 coasters myself this year. Appreciate your review. P.S. the live trees, etc…I believe there are upwards of 8000 live plants in the park and around the mall. 🌳. AND the mall has been working on the idea of the Water Park of America indoor water park…but slow go with the idea.

If you pay attention you can find home plate and a chair by the log ride where someone hit a homerun in memory of the baseball stadium that used to be there. I'm not sure if Nickelodeon universe kept this.

I went yesterday and the Log Chute was up and running and still themed just like I remember from my birthday party there as a kid! That said don't sit in the front seat if you don't want a lap full of water coming out of the rapids section.

I would expect the price to be higher in NJ. You are in the New York City area, plus they have 2 huge coasters in Sandy's and TMNT ShellRaiser. I do feel it is overpriced because the limit you on the amount of time you can spend in the park, but I went on a slow day, not completely empty but I got plenty of rides on the big 2. Minnesota one feel priced correctly. It doesn't have a must do bucket list coaster but it seems like a good places to go if you are in the area for Renegade

I went when I was a kid a few times and back again in 2010 and 2011 and I went last year in august. This Nickelodeon Universe is awesome because its bright and vibrant I agree with you the atmosphere is perfect. They will sometimes play music and its always loud with all the rides going and people screaming on them. The log flume is one of the best rides they recently opened it up back again but on limited days due to covid and not having enough staff. I was so sad it was closed when I went last year. I love how big it is and that there is something for everyone and is in the center of the mall. The price is def fair I love that they allow anyone in with or without a wrist band you can freely walk and you can ride rides then go shopping and come back and ride which is what I did. I have never been to the one in NJ but wow yeah that is more expensive and from the videos I have watched on KZread it looks depressing like a ghost town, and it sucks they won't let you even walk around unless you have a wrist band that is so stupid. I would love to go visit still because the rides are different and they have dreamworks waterpark which looks small too but its cool that that mall has both a theme park and a water park. Mall of America is def the better Nickelodeon Universe.

On the differences between this and American Dream: -It was an expansion at American Dream, at Mall of America it was designed into the mall, because remember, American Dream was built by the Mills Corporation and sat empty for many yesrs until Tripple Five bought it -the pricing scheme is just the mega city that is "The Northeast Corridor" vs not being part of that. That being said, being that it generally is a ghost town when we go there it would make sense to experiment with lower pricing and a price scheme more like Mall of America.

While I'm not much of a Nickelodeon fan, Mall of America has been on my bucket list for a long time, and I would definitely ride most of these rides anyway! And, I'm a "shop til I drop" type person! 😄

Camp Snoopy was one of the funnest places to work while going to college. They were really flexible with college students. I don't know what would be like to work for Nickelodeon universe. It was nice that we rotated each hour to a different ride or a different position. The carousel was everyone's least favorite ride to work. The carousel just had so many rules that would cause the right to be stopped such as making everybody wear seatbelt and it also had the annoying music. My favorite ride to work was the log ride.

Nick U Mall of America is one of my home parks alongside Valleyfair, and even though there are a greater number of bigger indoor theme parks being built now most of them *still* haven't matched ours in terms of quality and atmosphere. It really is the definitive indoor theme park. I was also lucky enough to grow up with the park when it was still Camp Snoopy, and was heartbroken when the Peanuts license was pulled and they spent a few years as the generic "Park at MOA". Though things have really recovered nicely since Nick moved in and Rock Bottom Plunge and Avatar were added. Between the two themes, Nick U has the better rides - while Camp Snoopy had the better atmosphere (hard to beat that old Knott's magic).

I've been coming here since this was Knott's Camp Snoopy. While I still really miss the Peanuts characters here, I do prefer the Nickelodeon theming more simply because of how more familiar I am with those characters. However after the removal of rides themed to Jimmy Neutron and Danny Phantom, part of me worries that this park is loosing some of the classic Nickelodeon that a lot of people are familiar with.

  • @princessravendiamond4288

The zip line and Dutchman’s Deck are great for views. The Log Chute is extremely fun. Shredder and Shell Shock are awesome, I prefer Shredders Mutant Masher. Pepsi Orange Streak is nice, but it could use newer, more comfortable trains, SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge could use new trains, a retrack, or both, Avatar Airbender is fun, and Fairly Odd Coaster is a fun family coaster! Great Park! It’s worth a trip
