Nick Saban opens up to ESPN's Chris Low, Alabama spring practice thoughts and recruiting

Спорт

Nick Saban had a rather eye-opening interview with Chris Low posted on ESPN.com yesterday. Who can blame Nick for being upset the way NIL is being used! It was never supposed to be there for buying recruits from highschool or the portal!! It for players to make money from their name, image and likeness! Look what Bryce Young did, that's how it's supposed to be! Endorsements! Bryce turned down more than he got!!! You make endorsements depending on your play and popularity! It's not for a kid who has never played a down of college football demanding a million dollars! They should earn their money the right way!!!

I think you are misunderstanding what he said in an interview that I saw with Saban. The way I interpreted what Saban said was 'in recriuting' all they wanted to know was how much money they would make not the team he had). The part about the current team was he was upset about how Alabama handled the loss to Michigan. Throwing fits and showing their 'A%%'!

Gentlemen, we have seen the golden days of college football. Personally I hate saying those words! Our judicial system let the toothpaste out of the tube. No one, including the greatest college coach of all time, can fix it. If you want another cliche, “the well has been poisoned”. It really saddens me for future generations who will not get to experience what we have on those beautiful fall days in the Southeastern Conference.

DeBoer really wanted the Alabama job. He mentioned watching Alabama games in the 70s with his dad. That this place meant something to him. That really needs to count for something. I have no idea what went on behind the scenes with evaluating or contacting Mike Norvell. But I never had any reason to think he wanted the job. And a little off topic, but I'm very glad the athletic director was brave enough to hire someone outside the Saban coaching tree. As much as I loved coach Saban, the program needed some changes. Things were a little stale and set in our ways. I'm not sure hiring a re-tread would've been in the programs best interest, even though it would've been tempting.

I was recruited in high school for a different sport but most of the time you are committing to a coach or a coaching staff, not a school. It differs for everyone but I found that to be the case most of the time. When you lose your head coach and position coach, that throws a wrench into everything. However, I do believe he should have given the new staff a chance before making such a big decision.

Love this. Their take about why Saban retired---it wasn't NIL--it's because-"he's "old." Then dude goes on to crap on FSU because "their entire roster (not true) leaving and refusing to play in a New Years 6 bowl against the program in CFB right now...then reiterates that "ALL" of FSU's players opted out (total nonsense), He conveniently omits that "ALL" of the roster opted to forego playing in the NFL against the best players in the world in order to play FB at FSU. That's not a sign of poor culture. Also, FSU/Norvell have been taking in players from the transfer portal and then developing them into players who are (now) showing out at the NFL combine. All the while winning more and more and more games--while ascending to be one of only 5-6r teams in America with a shot to be in the CFB playoff. These things do not happen to a program with a "poor" culture. Finally, the University of Alabama would NOT EVER consider hiring a coach that would risk UA's football team's positive culture.

*1st of all Downs left because of ohio tampering, giving him a Bloated Bag,and daddy.....And then pissing his teammates off...No more/No less....Surely not to play that crap schedule....Adios...And I, for one, am glad..... *Proctor left because he is a baby, was NOT going to be a LT again for THE TIDE,Tampering, and a BAG.... *Amos left for OM for a BAG...Good Riddance.... *McLaughlin left because he was DONE at Alabama. Why he played so much will ALWAYS blow my mind. He was terrible, and I am not referring at all to his snapping issues. *Roydell had to go,and should have NEVER,EVER took snaps away from Haynes/Jam last season and add Young to the mix now. And I like Roydell. *Sayin left on the "2-way street" because CKD brought in a MUCH better young prospect at QB for the future. And the FUTURE very well may be nearer than most think.... And without bringing up all the remaining 20-some Portalled Puppies? I will just name 3. Bond,Niblack, and Benson. And even though Bond could really come on under Sark,to me with our current situation? These 3 dudes, and several more, who are NOT appearing on our Pre-Season roster are BIG-TIME additions by subtractions. And I do NOT believe that Jalen will be named the starter after A-Day going into the summer. No way in hell. Not saying he wont win the job. He possibly could.I will believe it when I see it. I happen to think IF he is NOT given that assurance that he IS the presumptive starter? He Portals after April 15th. Is that a bad thing? I personally dont think so.....RTR

This is what happens when you make people believe they're worth more than they are. They become entitled and think everyone owes them something. I understand making money and all that, but at the end of the day, we are idolizing these people and making them more than what they are. For me it has ruined college football and took away the enjoyment that I used to have watching it. People used to play for the love of the sport. Now, it's all about money and greed. As with everything else in it, this world has gone to crap!!! Make you an onlyfans or have a foot picture website and you're rich bc of idiots. Smh

It’s not necessarily that, first of all, Saban is 72.. Also, It’s like playing a game without clear rules. There is basically zero regulation on NIL. The portal rules need to be adjusted. Constantly having to recruit your own players sounds awful. To always have to be thinking about not only recruiting new talent but also having to keep “your guys” committed. No thanks.. Until they formulate a contractual system for the players, things are going to be extremely tough for all coaches.

However, I did stop following Alabama football because I...personally thought some foul odor was in the air when Saban benched Jalen Milroe. The locker room turmoil, they tried to keep that under wraps, but without any information...I knew better. This is not what I wanted to be a part of. Yes, I'm an insignificant observer, I'm just 1 of uber-number of Alabama followers. I stopped following sports in general: NFL, NBA, tennis, golf...because I can't relate to the sports/athletes any longer. I just didn't think it's worth getting upset/angry, so I decided let it be.
