As an Auburn fan and former student. Saban changed the entire state, not just Tuscaloosa. I’ve watched cities grow and change for the better economically. Alabama as a state isn’t as advanced as other states in terms of infrastructure and median incomes. This man impacted so much more than just football.

@@noahf342 LOL. He played a dogcrap schedule in 2017, lost easily to Auburn, and gets in over more deserving teams because of people just chanting SEC SEC SEC until everyone believes that verbal fart. As for 2011, LOL again - when Iowa and Illinois play a 9-6 game last week, it's an atrocious, boring game, but when Alabama loses to LSU in 2011, it's one of the greatest games ever, SEC! SEC! SEC!, and Alabama deserves a rematch even though Michigan, magically, didn't in 2006. Oklahoma State played a much tougher schedule, losing one game due to a questionable missed field goal, and had the tools to beat either LSU or Alabama. Then there's 2009, where Alabama almost loses to Texas even with McCoy out. There's 2012, where Alabama should have lost to Mark Richt but Richt brainfarted on the last series. That was also the year where an unbeaten Ohio State team didn't play because their dumb AD accepted postseason ban for that year rather than 2011. There's 2020, which is COVID season. That leaves 2015 as the only season where Saban won without ridiculous luck, a farcical regular season (2020), or nonsense SEC! SEC! SEC! homerism. Greatest SEC coach ever? Good Lord, he isn't even better than Bear Bryant was.

What we have been witnessing with Coach Nick Saban and his 7 national titles will likely never be witnessed again. When in college, I took my coach--Paul "Bear" Bryant--for granted as I was young, I thought he'd live forever and Alabama would win big forever. Now I can hardly articulate how spectacular and historical these Saban years have been for Alabama because now I truly understand how momentous and rare are his accomplishments. Thank you Coach Saban for wonderful memories that will remain with me for the remainder of my life. Roll Tide.

@@tolivr You comment is rife with opportunities. 1) The BCS died and not bec it was liked. 2) Saban coached 27 years at P5 schools. 5 of his NCs came within 7 years (3 of 4, 2 of 3). That's 2 NCs in the other 20 years. And 1 of those was the silly covid NC. Most of the time, he wasn't great. 3) 4 of his NCs came when either he or his opponent did not win or play for their conference champ. From 2000 to 2023, that happened 6 times. How many coaches would have loved to get another shot after not winning their conf to play for a NC. 4) 9 wins against #1 AP. My list below uses wiki which combines AP and CFP. I count at many losses at #1 as wins against #1. Saban's losses while ranked #1 2008 FL 2010 SC 2012 A&M 2013 AU 2014 OSU 2016 CL 2018 CL 2021 A&M 2021 GA Saban's wins against #1 2009 FL 2011 LSU 2012 ND 2014 MS ST Finished 11th 2015 CL 2017 CL 2021 GA 2023 GA what is the other one? 5) Teams have more opportunity to win more games now than ever before. Are your numbers relative. 6) I have this answer somewhere. He has played weaker SEC competition too. Bec 1 team wins the NC does not mean the conf is strong year end and year out.

I wasn't happy seeing Stallings leave shortly after that unexpected defeat of a mighty Miami team. Had a wait then for someone competent enough for the coaching job, alway being defeated by the Florida dynasty..I kept watching and watching hoping for the day when Bama would be able to defeat the Noles. I don't think it happened until about 2007 or so and I started cheering like crazy.

Being an Ohio State fan I'm accustomed to expecting to win most every week. There has never been a coach like Saban, who manages a team full of NFL players that are expected to win every game. He manages to keep them focused and grounded and in the here and now. To me, that's much more difficult than coaching as a underdog. When I hear anyone try to compare Urban Meyer to Saban, it makes me laugh...not even close.
