i am but a lowly american and i don't think i'll ever understand what gcses are and no im not going to look it up. are they like AP tests? or are those a-levels? are gsces just like... normal exams? but for seniors or year 11s or whatever?? and why are the subjects so broad? what do you mean 'my history gsce'?? is it american history?? european history?? world religions?? 'ive got my maths exam later today' I HAVE LIKE 10 DIFFERENT MATH CLASSES AT MY SCHOOL??
and don't even get me started on sixth form because HUH??
sorry british people im sure it all makes sense to you but that stuff is so confusing to me i hope we can jsut all live in peace

Thank you for upoading this clip :) GSCEs are like AP I think but I'm not sure what AP is. GCSEs are the first big exams we take, when we apply to jobs they often want GCSE grades for Maths and English.. The subjects are broad because we have to do all of them for GCSEs, for the next year we can choose some of the subjects we do. History GCSE is usually English history, I did American History the year after GCSEs :)

ohh ok! then gcses kind of sound most similar to the SAT/ACT in american because it used to be standard that we submitted those scores to colleges/universities (covid kinda messed that system up but yk) although i've never heard of submitting test scores to jobs?? and yeah the subjects on the SAT and ACT are broad as well, it's reading, writing, math w/o a calculator and math w/ a calc i'm pretty sure. and AP classes are like voluntary advanced placement classes a student can take, like i took AP US History last year and it's just the college level version of the course but in high school. And at the end of the year there's like two weeks just dedicated to AP tests. but i'm not sure how similar they are to GSCEs since you can choose if you want to take an AP class or not

@@longbttms4255 Ah yeah GCSEs are probably not like AP as it isn't voluntary, we have to take GCSEs. I had heard of AP before but I wasn't sure what it was, thanks for explaining :) I would like to go to America, I have never been before. Do you apply for jobs differently? They tend to want exam grades from higher levels too like university in England, but that is more of a bonus they like not an essential thing. They care more about GCSEs for jobs. So that is why GCSEs are a big deal in Heartstopper, as they are very important in the UK :) I think you can still get jobs without GCSEs but we have to do apprenticeships which end with GSCE equivalent exams for certain job but others may let you learn on the job. I did an apprenticeship after university to gain experience in a different area. I would have preffered to go to university later in life when I would know what I wanted to do. I'm still a bit unsure what I want to do haha.

@@cecilia8515 i mean i haven’t even graduated high school yet so i might not know everything, but from what i do know, test grades in america are not nearly as important as a degree from a university is. all i’ve ever heard from adults is that you have to score good on your SAT to get into a good college, and then you have to do good in college or university or wherever so you have an undergraduate degree you can use on your résumé. and from there you can go higher in your education and get a bachelor’s degree or something and that’s pretty important to employers but i’m not fully sure how everything works so i’m not even gonna try and comment on it lmao.
