    Fished the Whirlpool lots of times as a young man whilst on fishing holidays from England, caught many King Salmon the biggest touching around 30 lbs great times and one of the best fishing venues in the world for Salmon, Carp and Trout..oh to be young again but at 68 now that walk got the better of me on the way back up the hill...Mike Gloucester UK.

    Hello Ivo. I was fishing at Port Dalhousie on Wednesday and had a chance to meet you and talk about fishing. Watching some of your videos fishing for salmon at the Whirlpool. I would like to try that but find the thought a bit intimidating even when you make it look so easy. It's a three hour drive from the London area but I'll keep watching and maybe I'll work up enough nerve to try the Niagara River. Hope your wife's guilt show and your trip to London was a hit. Also I deeply appreciate your generosity. Keep up the good work and I'll keep watching and maybe we'll meet again. Thanks again. Dennis

    Do you recommend braided over mono for the lower niagara river such as whirlpool?

  • @thundermistlures

    @thundermistlures

    10 ай бұрын

    Yes I do - however, be sure to use a mono or fluoro leader of at least 18 inches in length or longer...do not tie braid directly to your lure as the salmon can see the braid - this is why you need a mono or fluorocarbon leader - good luck out there

    Well done, great salmon! I can really see that Spinner as a good option here in the tropics, in the Amazon for peacock bass. Its for sure piranha-resistant and I think even great in murky water. Might even catch tarpon in the estuary. I don't think they are sold here in Brazil right?

    Hi Ivo. So I’m on the Buffalo side of the river and I went to Art Park in Lewiston. There they have a platform set up that protrudes into the water so you’re casting 20 foot from shore really. I was using spinners and spoons but to me it seems that the water was moving to quickly? Do you have any advice on how you would fish that spot ?

  • @thundermistlures

    @thundermistlures

    4 жыл бұрын

    ....with such strong current, try a heavier lure, such as the size 6 Stingeye or something similar.....otherwise, you can also bottom bounce a roe bag, again, using a heavier sinker. Good luck - that is a good spot you are fishing :)

    Fished the Niagara river yesterday. Mid September. Spend 12 hours and didn’t catch anything. I lost 4 stingeye spinners getting snagged on rocks. Saw a lot of salmon’s jumping, but no bites. I am planning to go back next month. Do you have any recommendation on not getting snagged on rocks and loosing the lure.

    count down till you feel bottom, then be sure to fish above that - example, if you hit bottom after letting your lure fall 10 seconds, then next time, start reeling in after 8 or 9 seconds - I will try to include some tips in a video some day :)

    Was this filmed this year? I heard hardly any salmon are running in the niagara yet and not much going on at port dalhousie either as far as I can tell, so pretty impressive you got two. Hoping things pick up this week with the colder weather coming, water temp is still pretty warm so hopefully thats why it is as slow as it is.

    I seen a video of man going fishing there. One's you get parked it's like a mile walk down to the river. But if you get a chance to go there you go. Because that is a great spot to fish. Make sure you take some swim tails baits with an assortment of lead head jigs and you should do pretty good. Have fun now and good luck. Go get them.
