The successful Hughes 500/MD 500 series began life in response to a U.S. Army requirement for a light observation helicopter. Hughes' Model 369 won the contest against competition from Bell and Hiller. The OH-6 Cayuse first flew in February 1963.
The improved Hughes 500D became the primary model in 1976, with a more powerful engine, a T-tail, and new five-blade main rotor, a four-blade tail rotor was optional. The 500D was replaced by the 500E from 1982 with a pointed nose and various interior improvements, such as greater head and leg room.

Thank you. I enjoyed the ride. Reminds me of a flight in a 500C-D in Hawaii on the Island of Molokai with the ex-'Nam pilot owner. Burned in my memory forever and makes a big smile of bliss on my face.

There used to be a MD-500D that flew here, but it tipped over in 2000
MD500 , mekkora élmeny lehetett, imadom a hangját, olyan jellegzetes, első emlekem ugy 90 kornyeken, pontosan nem emlekszem, mikor a sárga 2 fekete csikkal megjelent nalunk, talan permetezett, de ez meg vegkepp nem biztos, de a hangja es a mozgasa instant szerelem lett, kesobb meg a balcsi felett a zsaruk mikor jottek, mar messzirol lehetett tudni, koszi a videot szuper

Sajnos én a sárgákat nem láttam régen, de a rendőr gépeket annál inkább! Ugyen így megfogott engem is, plusz a Szupercsapat+Magnum PI-ban nem győztem kivárni a részeket amikben felbukkan! Azóta kergetem mindenféle a típust :)

@@batkizoltan fu jokis lista, akkor én is de nalam ugy van hogy elso mindegyik MD500 , BELL222(igen Airwolfon nevelkedtem🤫😅) es mivel a kozponti lőtér melllett nőttem fel Várpalotán a Mi24 erős hatást gyakorolt rám illetve az Apache hogy meglegyen 2civil 2katonai🙏🏼
This give me nostalgia, but not for the reason most people think. Rainbow Air has moved somewhere else now and a new company bought the helipad and they have nice Bell-407s I think they will fly

@@KamovRidereah it is. The old company before this had a chopper that collided with a Bell 206 I wanna say, but I may be wrong. The old 500 they had “N588DB” collided with the Bell over the gorge in 1992. Now a few years later in 1995, that name would be changed from “Rainbow Helicopters”, to “Rainbow Air Inc”, because my grandparents bought it. The other twin “N577DB” tipped over in 2000 or 2001. There is a hanger that was built at the house of the original owner’s and after he sold it to my grandparents they moved in. So they used that hanger and one night, the 500 tipped over after the skid got caught in between the hole of a landing dolly. The pilot wasn’t hurt and the one of the blades landed in the neighbor’s pool. After that happened they had to buy the yellow bird (N64RS). The only reason why they got the black bird (N420KT) because they wanted a new chopper to show off. In 2019 they decided it was time for retirement and then they sold it to the current owners who apparently keep begging my grandfather for help because they can barely use the choppers. One time the black bird’s skids broke off or something and they needed to use a crane to move the helicopter to repair it. I don’t know what happened after that, but the new owners of the helipad may start bringing their choppers back in the air soon. I haven’t been updated since the pad was bought, but yeah. That helipad has some history to it. Even the house where the hanger is at has some history, as it was built in the 1880s or sometime around there.
