    The blues 3 on 0 breakaway from their own goal line is one of the most bizarre hockey plays I’ve every seen at the NHL level. The level of unfair that Markstrom had to endure on that play is something I wouldn’t wish on any goalie, just no chance whatsoever to stop it.

  • @debestcanadian

    @debestcanadian

    That Horvat also snows his own goalie after the puck goes in is just the icing on the cake for Markstrom. No wonder he was pissed.

  • @karelspinka3031

    I wonder, can you intentionally move your own goal while the three players are still midfield and take the penalty shot of only one player? It should increase your odds of saving significantly, but it's unsportsmanlike...

  • @debestcanadian

    @debestcanadian

    Жыл бұрын

    @@karelspinka3031 That has happened in the AHL. kzread.info/dash/bejne/o3-MxLCjcsufg9I.html. The goalie was facing a 2-0 breakaway, turned around and just heaved the goal off its moorings. Then he proceeded to make the save on the penalty shot. Markstrom probably should have done the same thing, especially with a 3-0.

  • @BlueBagger83

    @BlueBagger83

    I laughed so hard when that 3 on 0 happened. As a Blues fan who's least favourite NHL organization is the Canucks, it warmed my soul. Also, re: the goalie knocking the net off intentionally during a breakaway, I'd almost suggest an ejection for that. Toss the keeper and force the coach to throw in a cold goalie for the penalty shot, for such a blatant unsportsmanlike move.

  • @debestcanadian

    @debestcanadian

    Жыл бұрын

    @@BlueBagger83 Seems the NHL may have learned from that AHL event. From the official rules, Section 9, 63.7 "If the goal post is deliberately displaced by a goalkeeper during the course of a "breakaway," a goal will be awarded to the non-offending team." So if Markstrom had done that, St Louis would still have been awarded the goal. Probably credited to Schenn, since he was first to catch up with the puck.

    Dan Boyle putting the puck into his own net for the Sharks against the Avs in the playoffs was one of the most brutal endings to a game I have ever seen: SJ absolutely DOMINATED that game but just couldn't get one past COL. It was literally comical the number of grade-A++++ chances they had that didn't end up in a goal, which led to 0-0 going into OT. They won the series and Boyle even got the 1st goal early in the next game, but man was that game 3 ending just BRUTAL lol.

    Okay, but the Blue Jackets/Kings one is more embarrassing because of the rules. Johnny Gaudreau tried to use the hilt of his stick to knock the puck in, but instead it hit his glove. The reason this was allowed as a goal though, was because Kevin Fiala and Jonathan Quick simultaneously tried to stop the puck from going in, and ended up touching it before it did so. I find it silly that because the opposing team touched the puck while trying to stop it from going in(which would never have happened if Gaudreau didn't use his hand), the illegal glove touch was nullified. I definitely feel the rule needs to be modified.

    You have to look at that play through the lens of the 2004 rulebook, not through the eyes of the 2022 league. There was no coach's challenge, penalty review or other such failsafes built into the game. The players knew this, and bailing out on such an important play in such an irresponsible fashion was simply not acceptable. The slash was real and it probably hurt quite a bit, but that reaction was NOT a good look for Kovalev, and it was demoralizing for the Habs and it left fans (including me) utterly bewildered and upset. On the flip side, Kovalev publicly accepted responsibility for the play when the press interviewed him the next day. His team got behind him after that and I believe the Habs rallied from behind to win the series, no small thanks going to Kovalev for game-winning contributions in games 5 and 7.
