@Hazy you are just great, you know that? Those are very helpful tools, I applaud you for writing them down for us, and it makes me optimistic (well, let’s not exaggerate 😉 less completely mental 😉) to read about your hands on approach. I am no longer stuck in the frightening phase, and very glad about that, but I am now in the no man’s land, where life has little meaning. Things are starting to look more normal but I’m still not completely connected, which is hard, since I am in the midst of a relationship crisis so I cannot feel truly connected due to that anyway. I am afraid that even though I don’t overthink the condition itself anymore, that my personal troubles will keep me locked here, as those give me anxiety. But I notice I can concentrate better and try to do things I used to do, who knows, fake it till you make it, maybe soon I’ll forget the way i feels and accidentally enjoy my hobbys again. Thank you again for your words, I screenshotted them and will be coming back to them, you might be a lifesaver for whoever reads your comment.

Thank you for these videos Shaun, and I am so thankful to focus on someone who has dp that recovered from it, and helped me realize I shouldn’t be browsing forums just to wallow in my own suffering. These interviews with those who had a full recovery are just full of positive energy, and these really help. I have my therapy session in 2 days, so these videos help me also make my own conclusions on what it is I need to bring up to them so they understand what I’m dealing with. @Hazy I'm so glad you recovered. It takes a lot so good for you. Some of the weed products out there these days are sketchy. You never know whatyou are getting. yeah I gave up coffee/caffeine alcohol, weed, sugar, processed foods when recovering the first time. After about 3 years I could have some of it again in moderation, except weed. It gets me no matter how long it's been. I seriously hate weed. I know it's not the weed itself but me reaction to it but I'm totally good never having it again and going on hating it lol. It's not a necessity on life. I've worked through the sugar and processed food amd caffeine and such other triggers cause its worth it to me. But I'm in it again and gave that all up again to recover cause I know it can help when your system is stressed to the max. Removing any and all possible stress is key until your system settles down then it can tolerate it again better.

It’s so good to hear another person say their dpdr came from a bad panic attack. I usually only hear people say it’s from weed or from other substances. I relate to this SO hard! The trauma from an extreme panic attack can be the onset for this disorder and I think this can be disheartening for people like me who felt as though they don’t have something to “blame” it on per say. I became depersonalized and had unreality feelings after withdrawing from drugs. That lasted 24/7 for about 7 months. I had reality break around me many times. I finally came out of it a month or two ago and life feels good again. Hey, thanks for your comment 😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

Another comment I have is that in therapy they also call DPR disassociation I wasn't sure if that is the same? Also I have been dealing with a lot of grief and I think the dpr caused me to go into depression which is another horrible think to deal with. Until I started googling about how I was feeling which came be another bad thing I never heard of DPR. I never realized how many people actually experienced this before and now I realized I have had this before but it was just for a short period of time. The way anxiety can control your mind and body is something you never know about until you experience. The anxiety and depression had gotten so bad I even lost weight. Also seems like Time is going way faster than what it is suppose to with DPR.

Obsessing and checking is what delay your recovery. Key word, delay. Recovery is inevitable. Remember, your worrying thoughts of DP never going away is what is causing the anxiety which is causing the DP. As soon as you fully understand that you don’t need to be afraid, is when the illness will disappear over night.

If you see this Shaun I need your advice. The biggest thing that’s killing me with dpdr rn is intrusive thoughts about killing myself. I’m pretty much constantly panicking now bc I wonder if the thoughts are separate from dpdr or if I actually want to do that. It’s weird, because my derealization feels better.. but the intensity of the intrusive thoughts has gone up. My mind wants to rationalize the intrusive thoughts by saying “well, you have been depressed.. or you did just get cut off from your best friends since childhood at the beginning of this year.. so you musttt be suicidal right?” It’s scaring me so much idk what to do

It’s all a lie & I know it seems as if since it’s our thought we have to believe it but I promise it’s not!! It has no control over you or power over you. Let a thought come up & let it pass by normally, do not spend your time worrying about a thought that literally is anxiety based

Hey Caleb -- Firstly, if you are experiencing any thoughts of self-harm, please do speak to a medical professional as soon as possible. Secondly, don’t worry, existential / intrusive thoughts like that are super common with DPDR . I know they can be frightening but they will fade away and stop as your recovery continues: www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-fears-and-anxious-thoughts/ And of course, if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. i just purchased your manual today and listened to everything. today is the first day i’m kinda able to let myself know i’m okay and i’ve had way less anxiety today. i understand what is happening but the feeling is utterly terrifying. that’s what i’m struggling with so badly. the sensation of of being light and like i’m floating and idk if this makes sense but it feels like my brain resets every two seconds. it’s like my vision is being switched on and off every 2 seconds. i feel like i’m just going to fall over when i walk. i can not get any sleep, i’m throwing up, and crying at every waking moment. i’ve been experiencing this for two or three months now. i don’t question reality or anything because i know i’m real everything just seems off. i’ve noticed that today i can kinda forget about the dpdr for like 5 seconds. is any of this a good sign? i also get really scared around too many noises or too many people. it’s extremely overwhelming. if i do all the right things, will i recover soon?

I am affirming daily why to worry about a unknown thing ? what true is the present. but still these thoughts come to me tho, but now atleast I have labeled it as "CIGARIC THOUGHTS I.e harmful" so now I know that it hurts. at first I didn't knew that this was the reason of my panicky anxiety etc. Actually why I told CIGARIC thoughts because it gives you joy but at same time ruins your mind. how it gave joy to me? I thought death as a equalizer , the topper whom I was jealous of, or the celebrity or the rich guy billionaire will at the end die, that thought comforted me. But at the same time it lead me ruin my mind, it lead to more deeper research about eternal oblivion and that CANCEROUS for the mind. I wasn't even knowing that how cancerous these thoughts can be. Actually after reading some bs nihilist existentialist stuff my belive on gods is completely over. at one point I only believed in eternal obvlion. Whats the point ? these thoughts came to me. but now I'm into recovery phase, my gods are my father mother grandpa grandma, they are my originators, I love them. @@ivanvukoja7654 No problem Ivan 😊I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. I don't understand how all my different psykatrists haven't picked this up. I have explained sooo many times that this is how I feel and they just ignore it and say that I'm stressed out and need to meditate and relax. Of course this makes sense to them since I've worked so hard during the pandemic from home so I really crashed and got a medical condition like "burned out" but getting burned out from working to much doesn't make you feel that everything is unreal. All my panic attacks I have treated with benzodiazepines but that is just like putting a band aid on a severed leg! I don't want to medicate. I want to have the psychiatrist to understand that I have dp/dr. The only time I feel normal is when I'm with my family in the nature, like picnics or long walks in the forest. Everything else feels so unnatural. I've almost convinced myself that I'm living in a simulation and everything that happens to me is like someone planned it like I'm a character in the Sims!

Man I get the same thoughts and feelings. Instead of getting reassurance that your going through the same thing I am, I get thoughts that your just someone who is “ thrown into” this simulation I live in to see how I react to someone going through something similar. Like this is matrix like test and I’m being tested on every move I make by whoever put me in here. this sucks man.

@@juggernaut4421 exactly the way i feel. Like it s some kind of experiment on an epic scale like the matrix. I imagine there's someone in a lab coat reading through different data about my responses to different situations and the person is in a large data center with millions of servers running the simulation I'm in but every server is an isolated simulation where they test different stuff. All this is to learn more about humans. But I'm probably just imaginening this. How can I tell if this is an imagination or my reality? It's impossible. So my actions are sometimes really not how I want to react, but rather me trying to throw them off and not make it easy for them.

@@Dpmanual Hi! Now that you've been recovered for years (i hope that's the case!) do you still sometimes get existential /philosophical thoughts but they don't scare you anymore, or have you just stopped having them completely? Could you also share your attitute to death etc (did you use to obsess over death when you had dpdr?) ? I would be very grateful if you replied. My situation is that the feelings of dpdr are mostly gone but I'm still struggling with anxiety-inducing existential thoughts and a massive fear of death (especially of the possibility of dying suddenly when young). Would you say such fear of death is a common feature of dpdr (or depression?) and will fade when i reach full recovery? What is your experience with fear and thoughts connected to death?

@Hazy Hi Hazy! How long did you have dpdr? Did you use to suffer from scary existential thoughts and fear of death (my biggest fear at the moment is the possibility of dying suddenly). Do you think such fear will naturally fade when i completely recover from dpdr? (Or is it more connected to depression? Did you ever feel depressed/lack of meaning of life along with dpdr? ) I can't remember what it is like to live 'normally' and not obsess over death, meaning of life etc.
