There's a great story about an NBA owner who signed a deal that would move his team to Anaheim, then backed out of it at the last minute. Funny enough, this NBA owner was later forced to sell his team to a former Microsoft executive.

I think that was the Sacramento Kings. Several people have tried to buy the team and move them to Anaheim. There is a reason the street in front of the Golden One Center is called "David Stern Way." Stern was instrumental in keeping the Kings in Sacramento. The NBA did not need 3 Franchises in the same area. There was a rumor Steve Balmer was going to buy them and move them back to Seattle, but then the franchise was sold to Vivek Ranadivé.
If this was expanded to all US sports, Sterling and Sarver would be on here in a heartbeat (if they actually had one).

It’s a shame. You couldn’t get a ticket to Washington in the 80s and 90s. The team was good, had amazing fans, long season ticket waiting list. When FedEx Field opened it was the largest in the league, and it would sellout. 25 years later and the team is an embarrassment. As an Eagles fan I kinda want them to be good, because they’re historic and part of the old NFL.

As a lifelong Seattle Seahawks fan, the Behring years were torturous. I mean, for crying out loud, Behring put in Dennis Erickson as HC to have the Hawks FAIL, so he could move them to LA. (Cortez Kennedy was playing throughout this time). When Paul G Allen bought the team, I let out a Hallelujah shout of praise. Allen was committed to keeping the Seahawks in Seattle, and brought in competent people to run the team :) IIRC there has only been 2 coaches, or maybe 3, since Paul bought the team. Holmgren and Carroll... not sure if Paul bought the team with a different coach in place.

As I said in a comment above, the Packers are run that way because in its early years, the team almost went bankrupt and had to rely on the city to buy stock to keep the team alive. Jerry Richardson was a creep towards women. He was allowed to behave like a criminal and get away with it. He also created the Carolina Panthers and was a great owner in terms of wanting to win getting Carolina to the Super Bowl twice in two different eras. Not happening. The WC toilet jokes are exactly what lazy entitled people crave. WC stands for water closet, the predecessor to the modern day flush toilet, and let's not forget about the sewage fiasco at FedEx Field some time back. These crap jokes really write themselves, given the state of the team. Something Browns fans may find some sympathy in, if their name have not already been dragged through the mud for the past two decades (not helped that human excrement is also brown in color, so the Browns can literally be called a "crap team" just for their color scheme).
As a (dis)honorable mention: I would’ve added Curly Lambeau, the founder and original owner of the Packers. When the team started to have financial problems and was on the verge of folding (as was very common in the NFL’s early days), he ended up having to sell literal shares of the team to citizens of Green Bay who was willing to buy some. Which is how the Packers got its current and unique ownership structure.

I can’t believe I’m the only person annoyed by the phrase, “Standard rich white-guy stuff!” If you know anything about youth sports, “Standard rich white guy stuff,” is financial generosity. Dumb business people come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
What I find ironic in all of this that being force to sell the team is not really a punishment as each time they made more money than their initial investment to purchase the team. Synder is going to be walking away from this with alot of money, even though his ego is going to be hurt (billions of dollars is a great cure for a hurt ego).
Richardson is a legend and IDGAF what anyone says about him
do not mention bill Sullivan in my presence.
Who the hell are the "Commanders"? Dan Snyder owns the Redskins.
I was reading the other week that Goodell helped Snyder buy off the minority owners of his team for well below market value a few years back. They got a combined $285 million for 20% or so…now that same stake is worth nearly a billion more. Yeah they didn’t appreciate that much in only four years. More proof that Goodell is just the owners puppet…god help you if your have him arbitrating your case against any owner. As we see all the time the owner usually wins and for the rare case like Richardson I would love to know what he was actually guilty of…you know the stuff the league hides because “Jeans Friday” and a casual racial slur usually isn’t enough. Unless you have dirt on the league or your emails are part of the damn good culture.
I'd say us 9er fans hate John and Denise York more than Jed. Hell A lot of us myself included like Jed. He's proud of the history of the team loves bringing back old players and his uncle Eddie to get the praise they deserve.
