@@junsambajon6981 the fact that ea has not changed significantly since madden 13 shows that they need someone to compete with. In those old 2k football games you had to makes sure your qbs feet were in the right position to throw an accurate pass. If you didn't run the ball the computer would start running real pass defense and the same goes with if you over ran the ball. In madden the are 2 or three routes that are gimme almost always gets you at least a first down, not in those old 2ks. If you call a certain d the offense would adjust and audible. In other words if you didn't truly know the game of football, you were getting your ass kicked 99.9% of the time. Now if you're simple minded and just wanna mess around yeah madden is perfect for you. Now in my opinion madden hasn't put out a good product simple Shaun Alexander blessed the cover

The Dreamcast was a powerhouse for its time. It was basically the bridge between the PS1 and PS2 generation of games
I had so many football games when I was younger. Techmo Bowl was my favorite, but I played NES Play Action Football the most. I can remember that came so vividly.
Much Gratitude Ps Dreamcast had some stellar sports games.
lol the college ones I would turn the volume up because I wanted to hear that atmosphere the feeling of being at a real game

So many FUN football games in the early 90's...Mutant League Football, the Joe Montana Sports Talks, Front Page Sports Football ( Career mode, design plays, levels to injuries), heck, Madden was still fun...so long as nobody picked Detroit or Dallas. Barry and Emmett Smith were comically, controller throwing unstoppable. LOL

There was a move I did that made Emmitt run for the endzone. My nephew was ticked. Fun times.
We spent so many nights playing madden and gambling all night if you got down 21 points it was a blow out.
Awesome video
I’m glad you included Super High Impact football! It may not have been an NFL-licensed game, but it was the most fun. It wouldn’t be considered appropriate today because of some of the over-the top cartoon violence, such as a player rolling on the turf clutching his knee and moaning in pain, and the player who was hit so hard the uniform and pads exploded off his body. The Mike Ditka lookalike who “dropped trou” when your team made a bad play and the scantily-clad dancers/cheerleader might also have been axed. Even though the graphics are ancient by today’s standards, SHI was actually somewhat ahead of its time, and it is still a fun game to play at retro arcades.
I've played Madden 2005 a lot recently, and it is the best football video game IMO
Madden 2001 was probably the biggest jump up in quality in the history of the series.

1994 a friend got John Madden Football and a Panasonic 3DO WOW at the time it was awesome
Cyberball was sick. I remember my friends and I stack $30-$40 worth of quarters at the arcade and run tournaments for a full day. It was right around the time when arcade companies were trying to pry 50 cents out of your hand for each game, so they needed to become more creative. Cyberball was able to achieve it with its dual screens on opposite sides of the machine.
Deion Sanders Prime Time 97 for Sega Genesis, Madden 2001 for PS1, NFL 2K3 for PS2 and Madden 05 for PS2 were the all time best football games ever made.
No NCAA 09-10-11-12-13-14? No Mutant Football League Dynasty Edition? No NCAA 2K2 on Dreamcast? No Madden NFL Arcade?

Lot of games, hard to find full list. thanks, I will update
I played Intellivision NFL Football back in the day. You had to put a 4 number code in for each formation. NFL Challenge was a fun game for its time. Original Tecmo Bowl for NES and Tecmo Superbowl for NES were the Gold Standard. TV Sports football for the Turbo Grafx 16 was fun. Bill Walsh College Football was a favorite. NFL 2K5 might have been the best game out there when PS3 was the main next gen console. My dad and I used to play a PC game (Can't remember the name) that you had to put a game plant together based on % of types of plays you run (i.e. inside runs, outside runs, short passes, long passes, and who on your team and what % of time you would run them or throw to them)
Beyond thrilled to see Quarterback Attack on here. Very cool.
NFL Blitz Madden NFL 2005 2006 and NFL 2K2 and 2K5 blitz the league and nfl street has some memories attached 😢
As a Steve Young fan, I wish he got his own game!
1:48 That game is ABC Monday Night Football for the Super NES Made in 1993
Just think if EA never got their greedy little hands on the players license, we would actually have great football sims
Remember first time I saw Gameday!!!! Blew my mind!!
I used to play that Odyssey original football and absolutely loved it. Believe it or not it was competitive in its own right
Great video. It's a shame that as of right now all really have is Madden but football gaming has definitely come a long way. I'm old enough to remember playing TEN YARD FIGHT for NES and man that was rough
Great list, but why add NCAA games when the list is for NFL games?

The 'NFL' part was probably to get the 'this is only the Worse Football' guys to quiet down. I'm pretty sure the channel will soon bring out something for Association Football. (Hopefully in the later years it's not all just FIFA, PES, and maybe Football Manager. Probably not with Mario Strikers series in the mix.
The Magnavox Odyssey 2 football game was not released in 1972 but rather 1978. First football game I ever played.
Tecmo Football was the best😁
You missed Sega's Prime Time with Deon Sanders. I played that. Memories.
In my opinion NFL 2K5, Madden 06, and NCAA Football 14 are the greatest football games to ever exist. You could make a really good case for Madden 11 which I believe had Drew Brees on the cover. After that Madden went downhill from there. NCAA Football 06 you could make a great case for, but 14 took all things missing from previous games and expounded on it.
Madden 18 was the last Madden game where I thought “Wow, this looks a lot better than before” Honestly 15 was the last BIG jump in my opinion. Gameplay though, it’s been hit and miss
There was so many football games in the mid 90s.
I was at one of them old school arcade places playing NFL blitz 2000 and I was like...this is fun.
1987 Tecmo Bowl was LIGHTYEARS ahead of any previous football game visually. Everything up until then looked like stick figure monsters. That was the first "actually looks like football" game.
Football games I had played in my gaming life; Tecmo Super Bowl (my first) Madden 96 Madden 2000 (favorite) NFL Blitz (ps1/XBLA) Madden 2001 Madden 2002 Kurt Warner Arena Football ESPN NFL 2K5 (favorite) Madden 06 Madden 07 Madden 15 Madden 18
I remember and played Front Page Sports franchise in the 90's. Great series...

3:00. Guys, let's be honest. The FPS series are amazing. I played 95, 97, and 98 and these games prove the following. The potential of electronic entertainment is infinite. If compared to a soccer game, it is at the level of combining Pro Evolution Soccer and Football Manager. Playing is like PES. PRE, play editor, GM, etc. are all shocking.
Tecmo Super Bowl on NES to this day is still my favorite football game to play. Not saying it's the best game, but it is the most fun.
It’s so obvious just by this video that the NFL LICENSED game stopped improving when EA became the only developer.
I played Retro Bowl (19:43) on my android. It was really fun.
What about that game with the LED players?
The most recent I played was TV Sports Football (on Amiga) and Madden Football, both 1988.
If i hadnt been so ignorant, i wouldve realised those late 90s Quarterback clubs games looked so much more realistic than Madden. I'm sure I played a PC game in the mid to late 90s that could be best described as looking like Game Day 98. There was a first person mode and you could practice plays. I would kick field goals over and over again. I played a game in the early 90s (it was likely from the 80s) on PC where you just chose the play and you would be told how it went by text. There was an early 90s Tom Landry game too.
The one thing good you can say about the Madden games is they are certainly the nicest looking of the games.
My first favorite football game was a PC Game called Monday Night football 96. Reggie White was on the cover.
1997 missing Jimmy Johnson football...

We just watched the de-evolution of Football video games. You can do this with the whole sports video game genre.
I never knew football games went back that far. I would’ve said the Atari 2600 at the earliest. I only wish they could get a license to make the NCAA games again. I know the players want to be paid for a likeness and all, but there’s gotta be a way to make it happen. I use to buy those before Madden. I’ve always like college football more than the NFL as crazy as it sounds, but we all have a preference.
The last game I played (for console) was Madden 64. Thankfully, I haven't played any of the new ones, having to spend extra dollars to play am incomplete game.
We need a college football game.
do touchdowns in NFL football video games evolution
I'm looking for a DOS football game released some time before 1993. It had a field drawn on the screen horizontally, somewhat in style to the games from the 70's shown here. You would enter plays by numbers, something like 1 for run, 2 for pass, etc. etc.. The play was entirely simulated, and the progress of the play was drawn on the field. No players were drawn, and you didn't get to control anything during the play. Does anyone know the title or developer?
I LOVED Cyberball.
