Thank goodness the players themselves stepped forward and said “No. I will play football for 6-8 years, and live another 40.” Don’t blame “snowflakes” for this one. This is about men wanting to keep brain matter intact.

I think so too. I'm a Cowboys fan and I had a chance to meet him at a meet & greet event in Dallas years ago and he was very nice and jovial and just seemed like a genuinely nice man who just happened to excel playing a very aggressive game. He didn't come off as some intense maniac who was looking to take someone's head off on Sundays. He could have seriously broken Ryan's back and permanently injure him if he wanted to go full tilt with how big of a gap there was between Atlanta's O-line. Ryan wouldn't have gotten up if he had.

The worst hit in football history happened to Darryl Stingley a receiver for the New England Patriots who became a quadriplegic after an intentional violent hit in 1978 game.In a game between The Patriots and the Oakland Raiders a pass to Stingley fell short. Jack Tatum of the Raiders then for absolutely no reason slammed into Stingley with his helmet at full force. Sadly that illegal hit broke two vertebrates in Stingley’s neck and his spinal cord was severely damaged leaving him paralyzed from the neck down for the rest of his life.

The last one: Joe Theismann was dating Kathy Lee Crosby, at the time one of the most beautiful women in the world. He'd won a Super Bowl, had a super model actress for a partner, so life was good. After he got home from the hospital, he's propped up in bed, leg in cast and he says "I want to see it." She says, "see what?" He says, "come on. I know you taped it. I know you saw it." Without another word, she opens a dresser drawer, pulls out a VHS tape, puts it in the player, presses Play and walks out of the bedroom into the kitchen. She waits. Waits a little more, then hears a scream. She walks back into the bedroom and Thiesman is sobbing into his hands. She presses Stop, then Eject, grabs the tape and drops it in the garbage. Joe never played again (career ending injury, 1985.) He and KLC would separate in 1991 and sue each other over assets. Life was no longer good for Joe after this play. More details: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Theismann#Career-ending_injury

The tackle by 25 of the Cardinals at 4:06 is by far the best technical and fair tackle, not up high/around the neck, not leading with helmet into the back by an honest solid hit that ended with a touchdown. Vick gets up and can continue to play. Whilst I oppose the way the rules have given too much protection for the QB, leading with a helmet to contact any part of the unprotected QB or neck tackles should be outlawed, everything else should be fair game and a tackle similar to that seen at 4:06 can equally eliminate a QB fairly, in this case Vick gets up as much to do with the fairness of the tackle as it is to do with the size of the tackler.

Do triple double games for defense players but instead of yards the player has one sack, one fumble recovery and one pick

Crazy how Jaworski was still able to hang onto the ball after such a brutal hit.

And it wasn't really a hard hit. Taylor jumped on his back and they both hit the ground awkwardly.

@2:20 that hit changed the course of football and effected many teams for the next decade. Someday, I’m going to write a book about that hit.

I remember watching that Jaworski hit in real time... and the Marshall hit on Montana, I remember Montana broke his hand just from the whiplash of getting hit that violently from behind.
