This is an example of Taika going hard in his island sensibilities. This movie, it's storytelling, the humor, is all geared towards a Polynesian audience. It's almost like he took this project just to do it like this. "You don't like it or you don't get it? I don't care, it wasn't made for you"

That's weird, because my feeling was that almost none of the Polynesian people had enough to do. Like it just skipped over almost all of their character arcs. But that could just be that sensibility that you're referring to.

I thought it was a cute crowd pleaser with a genuinely great ensemble cast, but this is definitely not an Oscars contender. I still would recommend seeing it though!

I found it completely hilarious and heartfelt… nothing groundbreaking here but critics are a bit harsh. The worse thing for Taika was winning an Oscar because now everyone expects him to churn out Award winning films… he went back to his roots with this one, funny and quirky. And I keep seeing that Fassbender was miscast?? I don’t see it. I thought he was perfect. Quit hatin

Just watched this on mystery Monday at regal theatres. I like the story behind the movie but it felt like the whole movie takes a backseat to the directors jokes. I did not realize it was one director until like half way through the movie. I knew from watching the trailers it was a more lighthearted story but did not expect some …jokes galore seems like the director did not learn anything.

Yeah i just came out of it a few minutes ago and it was, okay. It took a while to get invested because Taikas style is wierd and all over the place. I dont like his humor and his dialouge but the moments that are supposed to be heavy, emotional, they land as well as the message of the movie. But i was also disappointed in the final half being told in the third person. This movie is just filled with odd story choices and jumbled dialogue that is carried by strong performances.

I think Taika has become a one-hit-wonder. Jo Jo Rabbit was a diamond in the rough, and all the other ones were just movies.

Spoiler(kinda): after the team does finally score their first tournament goal, one of the major characters suffers a (heat)stroke and wakes up in the camp infirmary after the match. One of the players then recounts the rest of the match, along with cut-ins of the goalie retelling the story to his kids in his old age.
