Do you think the modern File Explorer in the upcoming Windows 11 release will go far enough in terms of OneDrive integration?

Good review - thanks. I think they are renaming the FILES app to OneDrive in TEAMS and expect the features to be available in Teams

Will say I also never use Onedrive in browser but solely in File Explorer and Teams.

Likewise, I work exclusively in File Explorer. I sync all my Teams etc so that I can avoid using a browser.

Totally the same. But I bet Microsoft has telemetry that shows we are in the minority. Or at least those who grew up with Gmail are probably using the browser 😊

@@ThisWeekinIT I find the functionality of the browser based apps to be limiting and often "laggy". I actually like the new layout and search functionality of OneDrive in the browser but find it annoying that I have to open a file (eg a Word Doc) in the browser before being able to open it in Windows app. So, unless I am having a tough time finding something, I will simply open the Windows app and work from the "recent file" list there.

@@atwoheadeddragon Indeed. Although the current OneDrive intergration with File Explorer in Windows is also quite laggy.

Do you think that Windows 11 (or Windows 12) may be going to become just ONE BIG POWER TOY! Without any cohesive direction as a modern operating system. With those in charge of particular aspects of the operating system just allowed to 'do their own thing'. Without much overall control and direction. In many ways Windows in the last few years could even be considered a bunch of power toys as many users want to strip it down, lock it down, make it lite, remove what they consider spyware or unnecessary aspects of what it contains.

You could argue that Windows 11 is already stripped back to a certain extent. I'm all for simplification where possible providing it doesn't impact productivity too greatly. It's a fine line to balance. What features would you consider superfluous in Windows right now?

I could tell you so many things, I would add the the OS , we are talking really simple things, the minimize button. Don't you think it should do something? why cant you RIGHT click on it, there was a system tray for a reason, its like when you are doing something and you know you have to jump back to it but you have to dig threw other windows to find what your looking for and your taskbar is full of flashing stacks of who knows what and where you left off, The alt tab and win tab guy just never figured it out when all it needed to know was were were you last. Since you can only do 1 think at a time anyways. Well hope you can pass on everything I mentioned here, to the team. And please please tell the Edge guys to add a second row to the tabs when full and allow me to hover my mouse over the tabs and be able to Scroll the mouse ball down or up to scroll threw tabs and with the new File manager tabs, Have you ever right clicked on the X button? it should roll up the title bar so you can see what is behind it until you release it. I hope you understand what I am trying to explain. its not easy to explain but I have a 100 more ideas. Brian.

I'm not sure what you mean about minimize but you can change the default setting for the taskbar so that applications are not grouped. Then it might be easier to find what you are looking for. And ALT+TAB takes you back to the last active window. And I'd recommend switching to vertical tabs - it's a better solution than adding a second row of tabs horizontally in my opinion. I do like the idea of being able to use the mouse wheel to scroll through tabs, be it in Edge or File Explorer.
