The Amiga was YEARS ahead of PC as this shows in graphic range and multi-tasking

This was jaw dropping in it's day. I used to catch a bus into the city to see this on display in retail stores.

Wow. This demo brings back memories. I had a job after school selling these things back in 1988 and 1989 as a 17/18 year old. This demo was played over and over when I was in the store. When I saw this, I remembered everything about the demo.

This is hands down the biggest, strangest blast from the past I've experienced so far in life. These nascent capabilities in prosumer computing were so inspiring at the time, and to think it really wasn't that long ago... Just 35 years or so.

WOW. This demoreel was the *ACTUAL REASON* I bought my first Amiga. Walked past an Amiga2000 on my way to *buy* an Apple IIgs and the thing said "Hello! Welcome to Newtek!" and I was sold. ... all thanks to "Maxine Headroom". (aka Laura Longfellow) I reallyreallyreallyreallyreally wanted to be able to do this myself... and I used to call up and harass NewTek... alas, "Digi/FX" was *NEVER* released. Damn. I feel old. But WOW did this feel good. Thanks for the trip down amnesia lane!

This demo & Dragons Lair demo were the reason I convinced my parents that I had to buy an Amiga 500 before I started Uni end of 1989. Watching this today after so many years hearing ' Hello welcome to Newtek" and that music transported me back to that time in my life. 18 years old, no car yet so I rode my BMX Hardtale to my mates to copy the new batch of Amiga games that came in via the bulletin boards. Ahh good years...

boy, it is so amazing, when i saw this 21 years ago i thought it was amazing. i didn't even remember that it was just an advert with so many stills. i bought digi-view. it had a color wheel you were supposed to use to do three scans for color pics. it never worked worth a crap for me and i just scanned B&W

This demo made me dump my 3 week old Commodore 64 for a A500. It looks so cheesy now. "Hey look, color photos on a computer!" And they leave them up there for 5 seconds each so you can really look at them for a good long time and wish you could do that. 24 years later I'm still playing with color photos on a computer.

Holy crap, this particular demo brings back memories. I remember I was in California at the time at a users group meeting in Berkeley when a team came in to demo the Toaster, the place was and has never been that packed. NewTek rules.

This brings back AWESOME CHILDHOOD MEMORIES. When my dad bought me my first Amiga... God rest his soul. I thought the Amiga was the best computer the world had ever seen, and it was. Newtek were the graphic Gods that uplifted the Amiga to new heights. So good network television studios all had Toasters. I remember watching this video, loved it then and sit amazed watching it now.

I remember when Tim brought us this demo--it was also the first public announcement of the development of the Video Toaster, which had been rumored for a few months before he came to the Slipped Disk to speak to us. NOTHING in this demo was possible on stock IBM PC-compatibles of the time, which were limited to a palette of (at most) 64 colors--and limited mono sound. It's worthy of note that the song "Paranomia" was assembled entirely from samples in real time to save disk space.

I so clearly remember seeing this for the first time. I was 12, and the Grace Bros department store in Bondi Junction, Sydney Australia had this on loop. Geeky as it sounds, it changed me, made me realise what I wanted to do. Here I am, 20 years later, working as a CG supervisor. Thanks Amiga, thanks Newtek! (Never learned lightwave though, shame on me...)

You needed either purely dedicated hardware that could cost $30k, a $10k Macintosh-II color, or an astronomically expensive SGI system (I think the '87 vintage was the Crimson) to do what the $1400 Amiga could do. But, as the easter egg says: Amiga - We Made It, Commodore Fucked It Up! (seriously, that was an easter-egg in the OS itself!)

I originally saw this shortly after it was first released on the amiga a500, and seen it countless time since, so the demo is pretty hard coded in my brain. Your copy appears to be broken because the sample used for the first phrase of the music (over the pasta sauce) misses 6 whole notes, twice. lol I thought i was having a moment, but a quick YT search of other peoples recording of the demo shows im not going mad.

What's wrong with your sound at the end (~7:20, on). It shouldn't cut out like that. Also why does the sound speed up at 4:00? FYI, it's a little too slow before that. At least compared to the way it was on my A500.
