That hurts. My highschool classmate, who became a cop, responded to her kid step-brother's fatal accident. She had to lateral to a another state because she didn't want to respond to another loved one's death ever again. She's retired now. She served with honor and bravery.

She's strikingly beautiful, her husband was a lucky man taken too soon. It's sad, I hope she recovers emotionally.

I feel uncomfortable that they commended her for her professionalism. Like... is it me or is that extremely insensitive?

My mother used to be a journalist for a local news station and would often report on accidents. When I was about 6 months old (and when she was about 3 months pregnant with my little sister) the station received word of a bad car accident on a highway just outside of town. Naturally, she prepared to go out to report on it, but just before she was about to go, she was informed that one of the people involved in the accident was my dad. Rather than make her report on it, her boss let her go to the hospital so she could be with my dad. He (along with everyone else) survived, but the accident crippled him. This video reminded me of (a much more devastating version of) the story my parents tell me about my father's accident. Thankfully, I still have both of my parents, but I can only imagine how much pain this woman felt in this moment.

No one in this world has a right to criticize her in this situation. There is nothing wrong with her holding it together any more than there is nothing wrong with her breaking down. She did what she had to do in the situation that she was in.That's not an easy job. Newscasters have to report on so many horrible things and stay calm and collected. They are trained to keep going and not break down no matter what is being reported because they have to be objective. To be just reporting on an incident without the knowledge that her husband was one of the fatalities on this horrific crash but only realizing while talking that she may have just announced her husband's death on air, damn that's brutal.

I feel like people forgot the fact that she was just suspecting that her husband was one of the victims and still doesn't know that her husband died until the show ends, that's why she wasn't breaking down on air, but still imagine the huge anxiety she had on air and then learning that her husband is dead is just really sad.

Can we just stop worshipping "professionalism"? Your employer will replace you tomorrow if you performed poorly or if you died, regardless of how professional you are. Humans have human lives and experiences and we need to normalise behaving as such instead of pretending that life outside of work doesn't exist. Work culture around the world, except for a few places, is so cutthroat that you're ridiculed and your promotions are at risk if you want to take leave, if you're not perky and chirpy 24/7, if your family needs you and you need to take half the day off, or even if you want to go on a well-deserved holiday. You have to pretend that you simply don't have a life outside of work. CNN themselves are exploiting her pain for their profit by uploading such a video. Don't be fooled into sacrificing your human nature at the altar of hypercapitalism; we don't live in a vacuum.

This is why we have STANDARDS in journalism. Do not show pictures of deceased people on live TV. Do not give any identifying information until next of kin can be notified... this includes close up images of cars, license plate numbers, etc. Compassion and dignity are more important than "the story."

I know of a similar story about a deputy sheriff in my hometown. He was called to a car accident that sent a vehicle into a local river. His home was in that river valley. When he arrived on scene, he recognized the car as his wife's vehicle. She was the victim of the accident. Terrible tragedy. Something like that would break most people, including me.

Disgusting that it even has to be stated that she stayed "calm" and kept reporting; as if this was the expected reaction and that she did a good job. A good company that treats its workers well would have accepted if she broke down in tears or couldn't go on with the show. I honestly would have stopped live TV, cut to commercials and support her on the spot. But the fact they kept on rolling is just disgusting to me.

How terribly sad. I loved my husband more than anything.He died unexpectedly, an erie calm , my faith I'd shared with him kicked in. Made it through preparations and his services basically tear less. But lots of tears have been shed since. Far from heartless if you sorrow is not public but private. My husband and I always said we wanted to be the one to go first. We could not bear to lose the other. He'd stressed he must , because he knew I was stronger and would hold up better. Stronger in ways, by far does not mean heartless. I'm sure her heart as mine was broken into pieces that horrible day. Bless her.What an awful way to find out.
