Oh man I remember that the computer store I worked at back then carried these. We didn't sell many, but the people who did buy them really only cared about the spectrum analyzer. We also carried the more basic Future Power-branded ones, which really only had the graphic EQ and not the fancy screen. (Come to think of it, we sold some complete Future Power systems too, though the higher-end Pentium 3 systems were ones we built in-house.)

RGB crap sux, unless it is a bargraph. I tried both streaming levels from WinAmp via COM and doing the whole FFT on an external MCU (found some FFT code available for ATMega, I suck at that FFT math, which I upgraded for running with an RGB bargraph instead of a stock mono LCD, and no, the retArduino noobs should leave as the the whole FFT code and the RGB framebuffer/dynamic coloring thingie I did for it is in ASM, will never do any good if written otherwise - especially with Ardu's crapware) and it looked pretty fun - though those LED strings are huge and are no match for a neat VFD.

In case you're wondering, the reason you got the version from California is simple but kind of messed up. Until the 2000s there wasn't any direct tech trade between South Korea and Japan. so any trade between the two required an intermediary company in another country, like the US. The embargo is also why South Korea never got the Famicom officially. Mostly due to South Korea breaking tech security agreements they had with Japan. It's a small snap shot of South Korea's passive-aggressive way of dealing with Japan, while maintaining their grudge from WWII and prior.

The nationalistic view you state was a product of these dictators trying to stay in power by creating a Japanese threat. You may find North Korea's views on outside nations absurd today, but South Korea wasn't that much different until the end of the Cold War. Besides, with your logic, the entire EU would never exist.

It looked so cool to my eye back then. Sometime later, when I rebuilt my PC, I threw this in a drawer and forgot about it. I do, however, know exactly where it is, and I have all the pieces, though not the box nor the documentation. I'd have been happy to send it to you so you wouldn't have had to import one from Japan. Brings me back, My old rig back in the 90s was a Full Tower ATX case and I had built an VU Meter out of LEDs that took up a whole 5.25 bay and had an old Parallel text VFD 4x16. Used Winamp to display music tracks and such. One point I added a second optical drive that had a bad controller but worked playing role as a CD player for when I would play Quake. Just used the Headphone jack on the optical jack and ran it into the Line-In jack. I had some old Roland MA-12 speakers. Come to think of it I had a JBL amplified Sub Woofer hooked up at one point but that was a few years later. Was a sweet system until someone broke in and stole it back in 2001.

What a fascinating product. I never knew about it or I definitely would have "blinged" one of my old desktop builds with one back in the day. Interesting that the manufacturer chose to not really integrate the EQ at all, it is effectively a car-audio or HiFi component in a 5.25 bay chassis. Great vid!

My Mom’s graduate school PC was a GateWay 2000, and I remember playing all those toddler games on it. I’m almost 19 now, and although the PC is gone I still have the SoundBlaster 16. I love classic stuff, but I haven’t been able to use it due to it using SCSI. I have a SoundBlaster 16 PCI coming from eBay and I’m going to try something mad, use it with Windows 10. I’m probably going to move it to my ThinkPad T30’s dock but I just got to try getting a SoundBlaster 16 to work with Windows 10.

it even looks like it sounds like plastic Audio over unshielded ribbon cable strung over the motherboard is a nice touch, gives you that warm analog feel. Alan Sugar would approve. Ps: the green button makes it sound louder, and monkey brain thinks louder=better.

It has modes that distor^^^ oh Im sorry, "Enhance" sound ;-), so it must go both ways over unshielded cables dangling above huge source of EMI. But who doesnt like the sound of IRQs from their speakers? You get to hear your mouse cursor move, HDD transfers, and can tell when CPU is doing intensive calculations, brilliant and so era appropriate! :)) I think 1998 was the first time I got a sound card able to reproduce clear signal without any crosstalk from various computer buses. Mmm good old Aureal based Diamond Sonic Impact.
