I always imagined it'd be Firefly Funhouse Bray in a suit, still with his "WOWEE ZOWEE!" personality, only turning into The Fiend if negotiations were going south.

The fact that Goldberg was the first guy you see after the show... 😂 Also, the same guy that took all that damage lost to just a spear and jackhammer like four months later.

@@Joecbg100 Kane had already had a girlfriend and talked like a normal human. Undertaker became a biker and talked like a normal person.

What makes this worse is that before all of this, Seth Rollins was having a crazy good run as the workhorse fighting champion where he would have constant banger after banger. It was the build to this match, and the match itself, that pretty much forced Seth Rollins to turn heel. IMO it pretty much took years off of his career because while he's always been a great heel, it took him YEARS to get super over with the crowd again with his current gimmick because he had to start from scratch.

Yeah, unfortunately Seth's twitter game at that point in time wasn't doing him any favors, either. Unless you were just following the show, dude was getting on everyone's nerves. Then his rivalry with the Fiend happened, where WWE booked themselves in a corner booking their world champion against the hottest thing in wrestling at the time too quickly. Anything Rollins did to the Fiend was booed because people liked the Fiend. Then everything culminated at HIAC, where the Fiend, Seth, and everyone involved, got made to look like total idiots. The ref protecting a demon was what killed me

@@phucdatbich7333 legit was coming to say this. Seth played a huge role in chipping away at his own shine. The Twitter spat with indy darlings (while WWE was in one of it’s driest spells), the feud with Baron and Lacey sucked, with that moment of Seth revealing a shirt that read “the man’s man” making people grown. That unification match at the raw after mania that ended in a DQ. It just didn’t work and is why I feel that “Seth Rollins isn’t cool” sign really stood out. People forget that there was so much that happened at this time than just “bray fans really like bray.” Seth (tho extremely talented) really sucked through this period. So when fans were presented with the newest and coolest toy, The Fiend, of course they turned on him. That and Seth’s booking back then was just god awful. So happy he’s gotten back on top since.

It was this match, vs Goldberg at Saudi Arabia and vs Orton at Mania that damaged Bray and everyone’s reputation because for some reason the producers will not let him dictate the match so it could have decent booking. Like how the hell can you let him build up one of the best characters in recent times but book him poorly by having him job to finishers so easily?

This and The TNA discussion with Pulse and Denk are Deadlock canon as far as I'm concerned

I will never forget that they did a poll on twitter asking “the WWE Universe” how they thought this match would end, and the options were pinfall, submission, or disqualification. I knew right then. I knew. The fact they did that, saw the reactions, and like 2 weeks later kept that finish is so funny.

This match was like a mass hallucination that left everyone's brains just slightly more haywire in the aftermath. Now I'm thinking about how Bryan Alvarez fell out of his chair trying to process the logic of "Giant Demonic Clown Hammer = fine, Regular Human Sledgehammer = NO SETH DON'T, IT'S A WAR CRIME, YOU'LL BE TRIED AT WRESTLEHAGUE."

I think is when Jawnny swore off not all, but MUCH, of WWE at that point and I don't blame him.

Jawnny: "You can't draft a murderer! He shouldn't be signing contracts!" 😂😂.

God this still disappoints me to this day. Johnny was all of us after that match. Mick Foley was thrown off that cell, and through it, for nothing. WWE ruined the Cell. I hope Trips uses it just for feuds.

This is my favorite jawnny moment of all time because I remember being just as angry as him about it!

Somehow the Cell did not just go away after this bs it still boggles me that Vince thought this was the best idea for this match like geez I am glad he retired.

To this day, I still don't know what Vince was smoking during that year and 2018 where the main event, which was a HIAC match, ends in no contest, a match that has no rules at all besides pin or submission, all of a sudden needs rules, and that bray got back up after all of that, which showed he could've continued the match, but they didn't. They changed the cell to this goofy red paint which was unnecessary, and the red lighting didn't help at all. These two years were the worst years of this match gimmick.

Hoping that with the Wyatt Sicks now debuted and setting expectations high via actual murder, they don't make the same mistake. Keep them away from titles if you have to, but you can't compromise the vision through creating a lose/lose situation like this one again. WWE misused Bray in my opinion. He had a lot of great moments and he did some brilliant work but I think he should've been the one to break Taker's streak. And he should've been booked as the ultimate final boss like Taker was.

I know how the match ended, but I can never hate this match. Everything from before the dumb DQ was so stupid in the most fun and goofy way that I absolutely loved it

This match and feud was so bad that Seth had to turn heel mere months after beating Brock clean. No decision they made for this match made any sense including even doing the match in the first place.

The biggest knee jerk reaction in recent memory. I rewatched this match for the first time (side note, Rest In Peace Bray) since watching it live. It’s better to watch it in black and white. Looks easier to watch that way. It’s not bad structure wise. But the crowd turned immediately once Seth started spamming Curbstomps and then the “pile of stuff” hammer spot. It still flies in the face of the entire stipulation when the referee calls for the bell in a no rules matchup.

And then someone on commentary tried to say he just impaled him how do you impale someone with a mallet Knowing Vince was yelling at mace to SAAAAAAAY ITTTT more reasons to hate Vince

this match just proved everything wrong with The Fiend

tbf the fans are equally to blame for this match lowkey. They wanted the Fiend to be champion but the fiend character IMO, isn’t built for being a champion. I mean wtf does a scary demon thing, need a title for? It never made sense tbh. How can you book the fiend as champ?

Yeah sure, fiend booked like shit whatever. But I don't see what's wrong with the ref stopping the match. I don't think it being a no DQ should allow attempted murder. I think it's a problem with refs letting way too much go, so if you come to the point where people are hitting people with sledgehammers to the head, people are like - "What the fuck, why is that not allowed but xyz is?" Shit booking catching up to them long term

There's 2 problems though with the ref stopping the match A. It's hell in a cell there shouldn't be any stopping woth punishment. Mick Foley's inner body probably would've loved if after he got tossed off the cell that the match ended. and B. Apparently nearly impaling someone with a giant mallet is 👍 a ok but a tiny sledgehammer that hits a ladder and toolbox 👎 that's too far.

After Feind won the championship it was going downhill. Feind winning the championship definitely was a Vince idea considering how popular the Feind was during that time but with Seth as champion they booked themselves in a corner. Plus Bray is probably the one wrestler on the roster where you could have him not win any championships yet he still will be popular with some fans.

Jawnny doesn't have to worry about the fiend signing anymore contracts at least.

God, are people still bitching about this match? If you get so mad over a fake fight that the only thing that would make you happy is "throwing him off the cell and the crowd moves and he dies" (joke or not) then maybe it's time to rethink your life.
