They've broken a ton of records set by BTS, and they're getting a lot of attention in the West. They are the creation of Min Hee-jin, who was a creative director at SM responsible for a lot of Girls’ Generation, SHINee, Exo, f(x) and Red Velvet concepts. She left after HYBE (BTS' company) offered her complete creative control of her own label called Ador. She debuted NewJeans with no promotion or any real marketing, dropped 2 singles that shot up the charts (Attention and Hype Boy), and released a few more songs. They've all done well, and the general public all know and love them in Korea.
