Newegg Scammed Us

Newegg ripped us off when we tried to return a product by claiming it was "damaged," despite being in the same condition as how they sent it.

Newegg claimed that the pins on our motherboard were bent (even though we never even opened it), then when we called them out, they claimed there was "thermal paste" on the socket. They fought tooth and nail to deny our $500 refund, apparently making up new stories at every corner. Newegg might try this on all motherboards, but has special leeway to do it on open box products. Don't buy them. We will be avoiding Newegg as much as we can for all future motherboard purchases (and purchases in general). It's unacceptable that everything was magically refunded and sent back and resolved after we tweeted publicly, yet we got no support when acting as a normal customer.

I had the same story before with a $700 purchase. I found a better deal and canceled it 5 seconds after I ordered. They sent it anyways and so when it arrived I returned it at the door. The package was never in my custody. It was sent back and they never sent a refund and refused to over a month span. I started a three way call with my bank and got the issue resolved. Their excuse was that it was stuck in shipping and was my fault. You may need to do the same through your bank and I recommend doing so.

I ordered my Phantex P300a mesh case from them, it got lost in transit for a few days. I filed a missing claim and ordered from amazon. I ended up with 2 cases, because I thought I would never receive the case from newegg. I ended up selling the extra case. I had one bad experience, now I am not buying from them again. Never had any issues from amazon, I had an ssd that I bought from amazon, it died 1 week after use. I sent it back and got a refund no questions asked. I will be doing my shopping on amazon from now on

Its interesting. When it comes to a delivery service to a residential or a postman service, it's impolite. But when it comes to logistics of major commerce; like shipper receiver and carrier, its okay. That is why carriers charge a fee for wait time to unload a product. The product often times has to be counted and inspected before it is accepted. It's interesting how the industry is set up so that the consumer doesn't really have the same option. The only reason is money. Time is money. And the delivery person has a time quota. Thats the only problem. It's just interesting how it is and how most people think about it. I don't have an opinion on the matter. It's just interesting.

When I was first building my pc (2020), I ordered sleeved cable extensions from them and someone somehow put my shipping label on the wrong package so I was a bit shocked when I got an rtx 2060 in the mail. He said the pins of the USB port were bent upon inspection. But I never even took the motherboard out of the box. One of his tech guys told me he didn't like the fact that I was returning a MSI mb for an ASUS mb, and that I, as an employee of the company, was taking advantage of his department. Now their prices are right there. It's nice to be able to shop locally and not have to deal with an anonymous person via email/phone if there's an issue.

7:30 I have a tip Ive learned when dealing with support at times like this. When they say "I'll have to contact someone by email, whatever", say "would you mind if I stay on the line while you write it, to make sure my concerns are represented". It should only take a minute right? So you kind of confirm they actually DO IT and dont immediately forget. There is no easy way for them to answer that other than just saying no, so then you request a different option still.

Our delivery peeps will knock for any package that doesn't fit through the letter box (we don’t have a box at the end of our drive/garden like you guys, we have a hole in the door xD) and if you don’t answer, they’ll try give it to a neighbour and post a note through your door saying who has it so you have proof and your neighbour can’t screw you. If the neighbour doesn't answer, they post a different card through your door telling you to collect the item from your nearest depo. And the delivery person will take it back to that depo. This is ALL types of deliveries whether it’s tracked or basic second class 😅 And it’s all companies as well. AND! If you can’t collect you can request a redelivery 😂

I had a horrible experience with Newegg back in 2019. I bought a Radeon VII, it literally was going to be my first brand new graphics card I’d ever had in my 7 years of PC gaming at that point, let alone a higher end current generation card. Well needless to say it didn’t show up. When it was “delivered” I was literally sitting in my living room in clear view of the front door/patio when I got the notification. I’ve had it happen in the past a few times with Amazon, where it’d sometimes eventually show up 1-3 days later. So I waited 3 days and it didn’t show up, I contact support and they tell me I have to fill out police report with my local police department for package theft and send it to them. They said because the item was over $500 they required it, I paid $599. Never had to do this with Amazon even with a more expensive item, it seemed ridiculous given my $5000+ purchase history with Newegg from 2012-2019 and the fact that I was by the front door the whole day it was “delivered,” if someone stole it I would’ve seen it. But whatever, I fill out a police report online through my police department, get a digital report, email it to Newegg. A few days passes and they reject the claim. I call the officer assigned to my report and have him fill out a detailed report and he leaves all his contact info in the new report. I send the new report to them, again rejected a few days later. I then go into chat where they basically tell me there’s nothing they can do, they won’t send a new card, they won’t refund, they won’t even give me store credit. I call, get the same crap. At this point it’s now ~2 weeks after it was “delivered.” I didn’t want to have to do a chargeback so I planned on waiting another week, well fast forward ~3 more weeks I come home from work and there’s a Newegg box on the porch. I check the tracking code on the box and it matches the original one. So idk if UPS lost it, or it was misdelivered and the person took forever to give it back to UPS or what. But needless to say at that point I was bitter with Newegg for basically implying I was a liar and that I was lying to the police for a report which is a crime. So I ripped a supervisor a new one on the phone until they offered a full refund to my credit card. Because at first they said they wouldn’t take the return because it’s past 30 days and then they offered store credit, until eventually the supervisor did the full refund. I, like Steve, preferred to give Newegg my business over Amazon as long as the price wasn’t more than a couple percent higher because I had such nostalgia for the site and their past customer support. Well since the ordeal I haven’t bought a thing from Newegg since, I literally just use it to find parts because the site is more organized and then buy everything from Amazon even if it’s more expensive (which is rare.) I will literally wait for something to come in stock on Amazon even if Newegg has it.

Sony/Playstation does the same thing they'll allow people to make 1,000s of purchases while suspended but won't let people refund anything while suspended and then people contact support and they just get told that they are suspended and won't refund your money and won't tell you why you are suspended and also you still can't transfer ps5 saves thru usb PS: Newegg I always saw as a scam almost always excessive prices and always charging shipping on anything to alaska

Thanks so much for this video !!! You just saved me from spending over a $1k+ at NewEgg on a motherboard for my own new build. I had no idea that Newegg was such a sketchy clusterf***k of a company that treat their customers with such contempt. I will avoid them at all costs and have our advised my work procurement department to do the same. Thanks again :) How is it that the government hasn't gotten involved yet with what sounds like an organized and systematic campaign of scamming customers out of their hard earned money ???

vids like this are why i love Steve and GN. They don't WANNA do vids like this, but when a company forces their hand, they always look out for the consumer and tell us the truth when they could easily opt for some kind of "good will" deal with these company's after they realize who they're dealing with.

Great video. Every company should treat EVERY customer like they’re an influencer with 1M+ subs. They do this shit to people thinking there won’t be any blowback and they can just get away with treating their customers like shit. They need to be called out more often.

Tbh you can't expect white glove service from every company. As a business you can typically only focus on two of these: quality, speed or cost. Competing with Chinese companies who win on cost typically means focusing on customer service (speed and quality) but charging more. I agree Newegg screwed up on this one. They'll never be as cheap as the Chinese companies so they should focus on customer service.

Now im willing to pay the 10 or 20 % more for the add assurance that product will be right and have no problems when it needs to be returned. Just a couple of hundred dollars would set me back months on my new build.

It doesn't matter though because most people are idiots that are basically not paying any attention. It's one small part of why the "most popular" card would still be complete junk like an RTX 3060 even if the pandemic and mining surge never occurred. It's also something that in Steve's case is "open box." I purposely don't buy stuff like that because I natively don't trust people or companies not to scam me and automatically expect the markdown to not be anywhere near risk. All this is going to do is convince more people who see this not to buy open box and to just rely on mnfr warranty while assuming newegg's is busted. That won't stop the many millions of people that don't watch this channel. There's a reason all these corporations are still making record profits no matter the garbage and literal fire hazards they put out. ....yes I am absolutely jaded after dealing with tech companies
