I'm a tactical ignoramus, but I really don't get this business of standing around the 6 yard box waiting for the opposition to come and get the ball, putting ourselves on the back foot. Playing suicide passes across the face of the penalty box. I know we're trying to lure them forward and get in behind, but just reaching the halfway line seems to be a huge effort. Admittedly, the results of the past year would seem to justify the tactic.

Honestly agree to an extent, but at the same time the goals you scored came from chances that were avoidable on our end. Shame Watkins second was ruled out would have made for an interesting last 20 mins

Burn had Diaby in his pocket, Bailey would have changed that game if Eddie Howe didn’t bring on Tino to nullify him a bit

Newcastle fan. Great Video. Was worried about Villa and would happily taken a point. Now that hopefully we're coming out of our injury nightmare (Isak aside...🤞) we can kick on. Probably too late for Champions League but if we can't get it would love to see Villa or West Ham get in and disrupt the self-proclaimed "Big 6". You're right about the rivalry, all started with "Sob on the Tyne" it came at our lowest moment when Ashley pretty much revealed he was not interested in success with Newcastle only promoting his tat shop, bringing in Wise, Kinnear and Llambias to run the club, signing a bunch of KZread stars. Brings back bad memories. Think Villa in recent seasons have had similar experiences with relegation and bad ownership followed by promotion and ambitious owners taking our clubs back in the right direction.

NUFC here - believe it or not there's a Villa fan sits behind me at SJP. Toon are his second team, brother works for NUFC and he's lived here for years. It's a real worry now all these teams have found Villa out. They know how to beat Villas defensive high line & just use the high press too against us. We just can't deal with it. Love Unai but he needs a plan B to change it up. Why the hell too do you wait so long to sub players when we were being totally outplayed. All this pathetic sloth speed sideways passing is boring the shit out of everyone. Where has all our fast positive attacking gone!! Unai has done a great job here but we have been quite poor now & scraped a couple of wins by the skin of our teeth. The way we are playing a top 6 finish will be hard. Quicker subs & plan Bs are a must, not wait until you are 3-0 down. Both the team bar a few exceptions & the tactics were poor tonight!!

Newcastle have been going through the same exact thing , at times it seems like there's no plan b, but when your best 11 isn't available all the time I'd say its more down to the players coming in not being as well drilled with their role in the game as your starters would be .

Got one over on me brother, who is a villa ST holder this season. Bailey was the spark you needed in 2nd half but was brought on so late we were able to switch to 5 at the back with livramento coming on to neutralise his pace. That wouldn't have happened at HT so would have been a totally different game if Emery had brought him on earlier!

We went through a similar problem last season around this time when teams sussed out how to play against our press and either get round it or counter us. Howe reacted, (sadly for us a bit too late to win the League Cup!), changed tactics, and we started winning again. That's what kept us in the top four come the end of the season. Emery is a good enough, and experienced enough, manager who'll no doubt recognise what needs to be done to get you out of this blip. Fully expect to see Villa playing in the Champions League next season. Good luck to you.

reading this as a newcastle fan really made me realise how similar newcastle and villa are. Great fans new ambition, smart managers and a good backing that signs some great players. Your drop in form is like ours. Not sure why there is such a rivalry between 2 clubs in very similar positions

I think it goes back a few years to when NUFC's relegation was confirmed when playing Villa and Villa fans were jeering at the Toon Army. Something like that.

Our downfall has startet after Arsenal win. Probably too much pressure for the players and other Teams know better how to Play us. Villa will probably miss out on top 7. Only way into Europe will be the Conference League 😢

Great video Max. I've e been watching Villa for over 40 years and have seasons like this many times. A great first half and don't replicate it into the second half of the season. 98-99 springs to mind. 40 points off 20 games to then finish up 6th with 57 points. Just really hope this is just a small blip and we can pick ourselves up starting on Saturday. In Unai we trust. UTMV

Newcastle fan here! Luckily our fitness lasted till 70 mins normally the 50/60 min mark we get hammered but the high line you play cost you the game good luck for the season

Diaby unlike when he first came plays to central and gives us no outlet outwide as soon as Bailey came on he hugs that wing gives us an out ball and does damage. Miss buendia too that creative spark attacking midfield. However first loss at home for 12 months so cant be to harsh but i do worry teams have sussed us out now with our high line they just do the low block and catch us on break. Torres is missed too. Must win next one .

The atmosphere was bad but it mirrors the style and pace of play. Remember Man City at home with fast, flowing passing, VP was buzzing. Well done NUFC, deserved to win. We have to move it faster. Ive never seen Martinez kick it forward so much but Diaby had no chance v a couple of big players at the back. We'll change it and give the bench players a chance......🤞🤞

It really was a shocking performance from everybody with the exception of Emi, McGinn and Bailey. The rest were sleeping their way through the game.

You make outstanding videos and this is one of your best - but I do support NFC !

Baiting in the Newcastle views with that title 🥲 We were very poor in the first half, Bailey's energy with McGinn's & Ollie's effort the only redeeming features of the night.

Bailey has to start next match. Like you said Max he was the difference maker

All this started with villa fans and their shity banners takin the piss out of newcastle and many newcastle fans hate villa for it but there is no denying that villa are a very very good team now and deserve to be where they are. Villa this season are newcastle from last season and are definitely a team on the up like newcastle so have a great future ahead!

In terms of what started the mini rivalry- it was your fans laughing and mocking when we got relegated on the last day of the season due to a Damien Duff own goal when Shearer was manager for 8 (I think) games. We stopped you getting out really well- I counted 7/8 long passes from Martinez that were intercepted by about the 35th minute and that really stopped you starting attacks. I found it incredible that Emery as still playing Diaby in a pair up front- if I as setting you up to play us I'd have Diaby wide right to take on and run in behind Burn. We were all pretty worried for ten minutes or so when Bailey came on to do just that but Howe brought Tino on and he snuffed out that threat extremely well (He is an incredible talent- you don't normally get young players who are good technically as well as excellent one on one defenders). Gordon was fantastic again, Bruno controlled the midfield well despite ours looking weaker on paper. We finally played our proper game which we haven't really done in the last couple months due to being able to do nothing but recovery between games- if this had happened last season then I don't think there'd be quite so much doom and gloom from Villa fans about it. I wasn't there but on telly the whole Villa crowd seemed a bit flat and quiet- is that normal at the moment? It just seemed strange.

Whys the atmosphere at VP so horrendous? Seems to be getting worse as the season goes on

We are a high pressing team and your high back line just plays into our hands even more . We have Bruno ready to launch that ball over the top to Gordon , Murphy and isak all night long . If yous didn’t have such high line we would struggled more in my opinion.

Well what can you say about that. Since we beat Arsenal I believe we are going backwards why ??? We were second leading scorers but now we are struggling to score can't get head round what's gone wrong . Apart from Pau Torres missing do we miss him that much. Things need to change back to what they were or forget top 4 . But great video as always Max

I think Dougie has been very poor lately as a reason for the goals drying up. Watching him against the toon and he never made one through pass only short sideways and backwards. So frustrating

Well. That wasn't how I envisioned my first trip to Villa Park to go 😅 But making that 3,657 mile journey from Northeast Ohio to see Villa play, I'd do it ALL OVER AGAIN ❤

Look great season so far, but this was coming. Losing Tyrone and Buendia, made an already smallest squad , smaller.but do pick on Diaby, he has been running round for weeks now, like a headless chicken. At a really elite elite club, (that we will become, shortly ) he would have been rested. Or if you prefer dropped. But we mustn’t panic. We need Pau back and Digne. As you say Sheffield is an important game.

A year unbeaten at home, no home game in a month, fighting for top 4 and CL football and the Villa fans thought they were at a library last night, emptied the stadium by 80 minutes!

Definitely. Came with a plan and executed it to perfection. Shut down every option forcing us to play long but we will lose in the air to them every day of the week. Nothing done to counter this until too late. It happens, only team to properly work us out this season.

Just be blessed you haven't had to deal with derby clash seens like Sunday's, Wolves fan😳😵‍💫🤕☠️😉😄😄🤣

Great presentation and video! I'm a Toon supporter. I first went to Villa Park in early 70s. I think our away end had no roof at the time. I recall looking at The Holte End in its "standing" days. I thought f'me that's a f'in football end. The noise was cacophonous. A lot of Toon supporters fell out with Villa, a few years back, because of the piss taking and disdain when you beat us 1-o for us to get relegated. We only needed a point. If you can't take the heat; get out of hell. But my memory overall was Villa: a proper football club where the support is passionate, football comes first, second and last - mickey taking yes but never violence. I went to the 3-0 drubbing last season and was shocked at how you tore us apart. We were riding high. I later studied Unai Emery's tactics and looked at his track record since he arrived. Before we even kicked a ball this season, I felt Villa could be a dark horse to finish in the top 4. Even after the 5-1 pasting (hehehehehe) I didn't change my mind. Yes it would be nice to see Newcastle back in the Top 4 but methinks 6 is about the best we can do - which is what I felt (for different reasons) at the beginning of the season. So good luck Villa. I, personally, would be well pleased to see you in the top 4, nay win the PL - at least this season - hehe!!!

Very very flat last night. We new it was coming but was hoping not against Newcastle . Every team go's on a bad run .not bad first defeat since last February at home. Put this defeat behind us march on to the next game.VTWD SOTC.

Sad to say that result has been creeping up on us since the Arsenal game. Lack of vision and creativity in this side is very disappointing. I hate the same sort of tactics every week. Emery jhas got to chhange the record. He's not playing Diaby out wide,where he's most of effective. Play Bailey out wide on one side and Diaby on the other. These 2 players are quick have good feet. Mr Wilder is waiting for us on Saturday. Not the best side to meet after such a dire performance as last night. Even if they're bottom, they've played better since Wilder took over as manager. UTV.

That was another shit performance from us! Emery needs to take some of the blame but Austin MacPhee needs to take some of the blame as well - he is our set piece coach and I've never seen us defend set pieces as bad as we did tonight

Villa only have one striker in the squad. They need three or four. Where was Diego Carlos? Boubacar Kamara had a good game

Diaby is SHOCKING, 50 mill??? This result had been coming for weeks, we’ve been way off the pace. As a north east villa fan, the signing of Roger’s is SHOCKING. He is useless.. nowhere near as good as Archer or Ramsay who we got rid of. Baffled at the moment with what’s going on, we seem to completely drop off when we’re finally on top in the league positions.. Also the atmosphere at Villa Park has been dreadful, what’s peoples opinions, is it the slow build up style of football ruining people getting lively?
