Botham, Defreitas, Lewis, Reeve, Pringle, Hick A LOT of allrounders in that team. Hick ended up the bowling the most overs of any England player on that tour. Mostly due to a mammoth 69 overs in the 3rd test at the Basin reserve which just preceded this game. Hick had also been England's leading test wicket taker (and England's leading run scorer) in India the same year when England were thrashed in the test matches over there. Illingworth and Small as well as specialist bowlers. That's a LOT of bowling options Reeve running up like Pingu looking for his fishing hole

I’m kiwi but I loved when Botham was in this mood or mode I guess you would say now. He is actually very technically sound but he had that cool way of just suddenly exploding into a shot. Great entertainment

This NZ bowling attack was ordinary. In 1980s they had RJ Hadlee, Chatfield, Bracewell. It was down to Martin Crowe 's batting and captaincy genius to take NZ to CWC 1992 semifinal.

Hello Marc, if you notice, Gooch handed the captaincy to Alec Stewart for this game. England had already won the series and the World Cup was one week away. Overnight rain had been tipped from the covers onto the square so the match was reduced from 50 to 40 overs per side. Gooch let others get some time at the crease before the Main Event began on February 22nd. Thanks for watching, DARREN

@@dmmordecai7984 Thanks for the info, mate. I grew up in Essex and Gooch was their star batsman at that time. He remains one of the best I've seen from any cricketing nation. I've still got newspaper cuttings of his 333 against India at Lords in 1990.
