What you want your landing forces to die of radiation poisoning a week in? That's stupid to begin with. And even if they were dumb enough to destroy their point of entry. Houston the city is not the problem. It's the million gun owners in the entire state. That means stretches of land in the hundreds of miles range. All of them could be miles apart. Nuke the entire state? Highly f*n doubt it. As for drones they're great against small bands of militia. But, you're not going to get very far against millions of armed men killing you for every inch of land. The entire army of china is 1.6 million troops. In Texas alone over 1 million people get hunting licenses each year. That means there are almost the exact same amount of men with guns in Texas alone. As the entire army of China.

How much cooperation do you think the locals would give invaders... especially in Mobile, Houston, New Orleans, etc. Not to mention you have at LEAST six air bases (Air Force and Navy) within a maybe two- hour flight at the most from any of those ports/ the Gulf of Mexico. No fleet trying to reach a southern US port would stand a chance to get their feet dry.

Gun ownership doesn't even matter all that much. The historical fact is that training someone to shoot takes very little time. So it's less about individual gun ownership and more about small-arms per capita and how you raise, arm, organize, and train conscripts. An individual gun owner with a small arsenal working mostly alone or in a disorganized unit just isn't very effective. Even in large numbers.

@@streetracer1086 The Truth of how useful militias were in the Revolution tends to either get downplayed or exaggerated today. Sometimes they fought rather well, though they were subject to panics and, at times, lack of discipline led to victories escaping them or to downright defeats. Gun-grabbers love to pretend citizen soldiers are useless on modern battlefields (forgetting how effective guerrilla warfare is esp when the enemy is still fighting a regular military and thus has less ability to defend its supply lines) 'because nukes' (as if you want to make a habit of using nukes on lands you want to invade), while some Citizen Militia types tend to forget just how much more flexibility and usefulness the former Continental Army militia men showed when they were properly trained by von Steuben. Citizen Militias are good for several things IF one remembers they aren't as disciplined or trained in manuevar as a regular army A) Providing their morale holds and they have something to protect, they are pretty decent holding fortified or mountainous or otherwise protected positions. B) With additional training (but not as much as to become regular army) they can make pretty decent saboteurs. C) Even as individuals they can act as snipers, at least the hunters can. D) Even as just mostly untrained civilians with just basic firearms training they can often make the cost of mass killings or brutal occupations unsustainable. An invading army doesn't want to have to worry about its garrisons taking significant losses because they pissed off or scared the local civilians. These are additional manpower costs, costs that can sometimes mean the difference between victory or defeat.

As a Canadian, I can relate to your sentiement about your 'powerful friends'. One thing that the graphics showed about a Canadian invasion path; there are no roads to the north territories. Well, except one, going from Alberta to the south shore of the Great Slave Lake, Yellowknife being on the north shore and pretty much being at the center of the Territories, making the treck there even longer than going straight south! Best bet would be Chruchill Manitoba and its port on the Hudson Bay and railline to the interior, if you can avoid the polar bears! (really, search 'polar bear prison' for another fun fact vidéo of something incredible!) You are still 800 miles away from the US border on a single rail track... That is part of the 'bottle neck' of Canada; Taking the Western route you might as well take Seatle because the great ports of Vancouver is next door. Fat chance going through Ontario or Quebec from the north, and if you use the St-Laurent seaway you get bottleneck again! That leaves the port of Halifax, Nova Scotia with a bottleneck going into New Brunswick and the happy little port of Saint John (not to be confused with St-John New Found Land!) that lies just on the wrong side of a bay going into the larger Bay of Fundy with the highest tides in the world! If you manage to land there, you get one path south into the USA, another Bottleneck! Since 90% of our population is on the southern border with the U.S., any invasion 'the hard way' through Canada would have American troops crossing the border in hours instead of days as once you reach those zones, roads and rail are everywhere; you just have to get there first!

Back in the 50s or 60s, there was a Soviet General that defected to the U.S. He was asked if there was a plan to invade the U.S. He said "Are you nuts! Your citizens are armed. We could never fight against an armed population." God bless the Second Amendment!

Courtney, your summation about us getting invaded is 1 part hilarious, and 1 part God's honest truth. The first Russian ship to show up in Houston with evil intentions would be shown their radical error in judgment in short order. And that goes for any other port as well. not necessarily. We've watched for 12 years as the flag was burned, trampled on, urinated and defecated on and only a handful of people did anything. If there were an invasion, about 25% of Texas would take up arms to go toe to toe, while the other 25% would remain at the homes ready for their last stand. The rest of the states is anyone elses guess, but typically we assume 3% of the US population will fight.

New Zealand would be hard to invade too. It's remote, and even though the military is small it's also tough. Islands are mountainous. China could probably take control of some coastal cities and air, but they could never truly take over NZ in the short term. Then yes, NZ has a lot of friends that would lose their minds if anyone tried invading them.
