I lived in NY my entire life of 24 years and just moved to LA for a year. I can say this, NY has better food, LA has better people, NY has better landmarks, LA has better weather, NY makes people independent, LA has better community. Thats it. period.

@@ProphetNewYork NYC supposedly has more homeless but enough shelters for most who meet the criteria. LA doesn't have enough shelters and is way too lax on their bad behavior. NYC doesn't allow tents and I imagine the NYPD wouldn't tolerate hard drug use in areas with heavy foot traffic. I've never seen a syringe on the street or felt the need to look out for them. Also, NYC's poverty is concentrated in public housing complexes, with the rougher ones being north of central park and in the boroughs, and those in poverty not qualifying for public housing living deeper in the boroughs where it does look much more run down and unsafe.

I live bi-coastally in West Hollywood and Manhatten’s Upper West Side, for the last 17 years. I must say that living in the two cities feels like a shared custody between mom and dad. New York is like a father with right angles, expecting results, stern and calculated. LA is like a mother, with rolling curves, scenic beauty, compassion and gentleness. I really can’t imagine one without the other. I WILL say that the quality of life is healthier and more fit for happiness and sustainability in LA. I mean, there’s a reason New Yorkers retire in Florida, right?

NYC is the best city in the US and arguably one of the best in the world for the full-on urban, dense living experience and the aesthetic and vibe associated with that. That said, actually living there long term (and also not part-time) is a different matter. You're right. Many also leave for LA more than the other way around lately. A major factor is the cost of living and what you get for it and of course the weather. I think another factor is just feeling overwhelmed by the tall buildings, crowds, and noise. You may be able to escape it a bit living in the boroughs, but you'll most likely have to work in noisy, overcrowded Manhattan 5 days a week.

I'd rather go to NYC for tourism, I have a cousin living there and he loves the town. But living in general, I totally go with LA : warm weather, beautiful sunsets and beaches, palm trees, a lot of parks and natural scenarios, plenty of things to do (shopping, nightclub life, museums, concert shows, sports venues, movies etc). Los Angeles offers you what a great metropolis does and still you can find a moment of tranquility and chill out when you need to.

There's sun in New York too. I actually prefer New York because I love all seasons, and when I went there in October the leaves were so pretty and orange, plus there were so many places to eat. I will admit California has better mexican food, but in Texas I think we do it better. When I visited California, it was dry and hot just like Texas, and everything was dried up from the drought. The only nice part was the beaches, which I will also admit are better than the ones in Texas, which have tons of horseshit and condoms on the sand. However, Northern California was just beautiful, and I liked it way more than Southern California (especially L.A.)

New York nightlife is far better than LA. LA is all about house parties, but the club scene is nearly non-existent. I was shocked when I moved out West and how early the clubs shut down. In NYC you get to the club at 12 AM. In LA some of them are already shutting down at 12!

Clubs are expensive, way too noisy, and overcrowded and some have a bunch of criteria you have to match or the person at the door won't let you in, or they may just randomly decide that. The only problem with house parties is you have to have a good social network before you start getting invited. Also, people may be more open about doing drugs that they'd be more private about in a club, which is great if you're into that but awkward and off putting if you're not.

Austin Hernández Hot by NY standards begins around the mid 80s. It tends to get really humid at that temperature too, which isn't helping much. So, definitely not 70, most people here would find that pleasant, not hot.

Born in Brooklyn NY and I'm so thankful to have experience NY and now living in LA, I'd say CA the better state becuz it feels like a vacation :)

I've visited both these cities and love everything they have to offer. But I'm Canadian so I don't think I'd be a good judge of which American city is the best.

Hey Mojo, you just said we drive everywhere, well we are making a difference with public transportation, more and more people are going into transportation. While in New York, emergency cars can't even get through traffic, at least in LA, we pull over for them.

That's actually very true, people really underestimate the power of Cali's heat especially when it mixes in with LA's pollution and becomes a heatwave. I am brown so I am physically more resistant to sunburns yet even I can feel my skin boil under the heat. One of my friends in Cali had one of the best points ever; there are plenty of ways to say warm but barely any way to stay cold.

Why New York ?

We love California because the whole state is awesome! With thousands of choices within the whole state…awesome cities throughout California and not just one city in the whole state such as New York. California doesn't just have LA. The whole state is a gem…its just awesome! Not to mention the natural God given beauty we got! The ocean and our one of a kind wheather! NOTHING...absolutely NOTHING beats that!

Yeah, that's true but California is huge. If you include the same area in the northeast, you do get a lot of variety, but I still think California is more interesting and beautiful in terms of nature and natural features than the east coast for the most part. The NE has a lot of interesting small towns, farms, etc. and is a lot more green.

Kahinur Nessa Cali has so many amusement parks and parties, and Santa Monica beach is the best beach ever there is a amusement park next to it too! It’s so fun there! I’m so glad I live here I even went on a universal studio tour and saw the hogwarts castle, New Yorkers don’t have that. I have met so many celebrities ahhh what a great place to live! Some people complain about taxes but it’s because California jobs pay more, if u have a decent job you can live happily and normally!

Kahinur Nessa well it’s a more succesful state than a lot of the others in the US. We have the 5th largest economy, rank #4 in universities nationwide, have successful industries and jobs offers in the Bay Area, lots of tourists, and I’m saying this as someone who actually LIVES here

California may not have as much tourist attractions as New York but the way to live, the nature, the weather, the community, the food, and the love for sports has to be in California. Mark Aven The desert can be pretty too. Arizona is not known for its cities but it is known for its geographical beauty and scenic landscapes. With the red rocks in Sedona, the Grand Canyon, the clear and turquoise blue water in Supai Falls, Monument Valley, the San Fransisco Peaks, and the unique flora that the Sonoran desert offers, Arizona is a beautiful state. Don't forget about the sunsets and the amazing winters. We also have pine forests and grasslands. It's also very close to LA and Las Vegas.

Alan Silva there are no good places to visit in LA besides beaches and the Hollywood sign. New York has the Empire State Building, the freedom tower (6th tallest building), the liberty statue, long islands beaches, sports, and history. LA also has way too much pollution and also has a water drought. Also I recommend having all four seasons instead of one all year long

Quality of life in NYC is definitely not its strong suit. I'm born and raised in Manhattan NY Life of a New York native is different from the tourist experience. TV only shows Manhattan, Broadway, with the gorgeous lights, etc. The major tourist area. Yet NY natives are often so work driven, overworked, rushed, stressed. There's so much beauty in NY but the average NYer doesn't even take the time to acknowledge or enjoy it. Rent is so high we often live to work and work to live. It's convenient and we have the best transit system, but if you look around the NYrs aren't often happy.

I lived in ny my whole life. Now in in la. La is more homey. It's a big city but you have neighborhoods of suburbs. New york is one big city. You get overwhelmed with noise and people in NYC. And the heat either is hella cold or sweltering in the summer. The weather even the heat here is doable. It's not sweltering like NYC. Also I feel you get a lil more for ya dollar in LA then you do new york. La people love to boost their lives. I do this. I do that. Meanwhile they are unemployed. Nyers are real but mentally draining. Everybody in nyc has a chip on their shoulder from working 3 jobs I feel like NYC is a place where you hustle Los angles is both work and play. NYC beats los angeles in party scene. La the party scene is all over. NYC, especially manhattan. Theres like 100 clubs, bars lounges in the space of a city mile. You could legit go to a new bar every night and not be finished with exploring nightlife in nyc Clubs generally close at 4 am in nyc. Some later. La clubs generally close at 2 am and finding an after hours spot becomes a mission NYC never closes. Traffic is bad in both. Which is why most nyers use public transit more. NYC is a little worse in my opnion In LA I been in rush hour where the cars move 15 mph. But I been in nyc traffic jams where you dont move at all for an hour straight. NYC has history. It has it's own pulse no city in the world can recreate. La is very natural. Many parks. Trees each house even in the hood has a garden. Beaches. Mountains, desert. All these terrains is in hours of each other In nyc you gotta travel of the city for mountains. Nyc beaches fail in comparsion to la beaches. La feels like forever summer. And I noticed that has improved my mood 140 percent. NYC and it being gloomy and cold and dirty. Really impacts your mood. NYC is gritty. I feel like NYC is perfect for young people who are finding themselves. It forces you to adapted or fail. La is for people who love metropolises but want a home life . a real house.with a yard and garden and backyard. Ny wins: my teen and young 20s La is winning for me being 29 and moving into my 30s. La is just beautiful. The clear skyline. The beautiful palm trees. The color palette of LA. The vibrancy. NYC was perfect for my 20s. Young. Wanting to party and meet people. Staying out all night. I only been in la 6 months but I like it so far.

I've been in L.A. for almost 5 goddamn years, and I want to go back to my city soooooooo bad, but I cannot do that yet because I am a minor, and now with all this Coronavirus bullshit going around that postpones it even further, god I hate Cali, I don't know if it's because I genuinely hate it, or just because I am super homesick and I cry every time a nostalgic NYC memory pops into my head

Both cities are fun in their own way, but I prefer New York. I'm from NYC so I am naturally somewhat bias, however I did live in Los Angeles several years. It's a huge culture shock to say the least, and the first year I absolutely hated it, but over time I met some interesting friends and really started enjoying it more. I ultimately moved back to New York, but I still love visiting Los Angeles.

Lol 95% of the people in LA use plastic surgery to look like human Barbie dolls and it is a known fact that New York is at the top of the fashion industry and its one of the Wealthiest cities in the world so....oh and I bet there are Plenty of ugly people in LA

J. T​ My dad lived in Los Angeles for like 20 years while he was acting and modeling. He visited New York City for a while during a singing competition their, and he said it was way filthier, more crowded, and noisier than LA. Los Angeles is nice and open ans spread out. And New York fashion is UGLY. They wear these ugly loud colors, and they all try to look different. In Los Angeles, everyone is much classier, and they wear really laid back beautiful clothing. I much prefer West Coast styles. And the music industry is primarily in Los Angeles today. The modern movie industry is all in Los Angeles. Why do you think almost every wealthy and famous person chooses to move to LA and not NYC? Even KZreadrs go to LA. Palm trees, big open roads, extreme wealth in many neighbourhoods, world class food, cheaper than NYC, everyone has a nice yard, cars, fame. It's the city of dreams. It's literally "la la land".

Everyone is beautiful, the people are MUCH nicer and more friendly, it's whole vibe is very laid back and relaxed, the people are more "go with the flow" in attitude, I just love it. NYC doesn't beat that in any way. New York City is somewhere you go to do some business, and maybe visit, but Los Angeles is where you dream of living and starting a nice life.

J. T I'd argue about the fashion thing, but LA is fairly diverse. We just don't have much European cultural diversity celebrated in the city. But we have more Asian, South American, and Middle Eastern diversity than NY.

Disneyland is in Anaheim, not LA. But Anaheim is a half hour drive from LA so tourists staying in LA can easily visit the Happiest Place on Earth. Due to how close Anaheim and LA are, I understand why Disneyland is often associated with the City of Angels.

Never been to la but newyork is incredible, plan on living in Manhattan when I’m older

Wonkstro the palm trees aren’t even natural there. The seeds were exported. LA is a dirty shithole with smog and forest fires. Only thing people go to LA do is the beaches. New York has beautiful beaches aswell and people visit the city for the city

I love LA so much. I’ve been there a few times and definitely plan on moving there soon with my parents and sister. I love the all year round sunny weather there too.

i have always wanted to travel and explore to NYC!! It is the number one citt in the US I would have a second home in!

In my opinion, the people in Los Angeles is more a friendly, humble, smooth, lounge, polite, relax, quiet, calm, slow, chill, soft, nice, open minded, kind heart, not arrogant, modest, simple, etc.

Agreed by a long shot, in the comment section you see a lot of New Yorkers howling over how their city is better but Californians aren't acting that way probably because they're more open-minded to the fact that it probably is better when it could also not be the case. In my experience whenever people are blunt about something they're typically wrong, sorry NY I love the pizza but I'm handing the throne to Cali.
