It's no lie that NYC has several ethnic enclaves. In fact studies have been done of exactly how many languages are spoken in NYC...they have shown that over SIX HUNDRED are spoken there. Making it the most linguistically diverse urban center in the world. NYC really is polyglot heaven

I take the subway and typically in just one day I'll walk past people speaking Haitian creole, a Muslim holding a Quran in Arabic, a man reading a newspaper in Chinese and hearing people speak plenty of Spanish. It really is a little bit of everything.

Disagree. The percentage of English monolingual speakers in nyc is higher than la.

I think it's important to note that when people think of NYC they usually only think of Manhattan, that being loud, busy, intense, and fast moving. Keep in mind that it's only a fifth of the city, as the other boroughs are much more chill compared to Manhattan.

I've lived in both cities. I prefer NY, but I love LA. They are both great cities full of great food, great culture, and great people. We're lucky to have two amazingly dynamic metropolises in our country. They are both capitals in their own ways, but the bottom line for me is this: No matter I am in the whole world, an inner voice constantly reminds me, when you're out of NY, you're outta town...that is really just the way it is. Everywhere else is like life in the past. NY is the human experience played forward.

I grew up in New York and have lived in Los Angeles for many years. You can't compare the two. They are two very different cities with different cultures, attitudes, weather, and layout. You could compare the crime, but that's about it.

gracefulvintage That really doesn’t make you guys different from us.Some of us New Yorker’s don’t like to be called “The City That Never Sleeps” or “The Big Apple”,Most of those really great buildings are literally just in manhattan and times square.NY transportation is literally the worst transportation in the U.S but it’s not that bad with all the RATS running on the tracks.Even though we have 5 cities it’s still complicated.

As someone in aviation who looks at maps a lot, love learning this kind of geography stuff 😅

I love both cities for different reasons. I love that NYC is walkable. LA is very spread out. I love all 4 seasons NYC has but LA’s beaches & mountains are beautiful. The food is great in both places. I also love the fast pace NYC lifestyle, and sometimes LA’s laid back lifestyle. If I had to choose between the two, Id chose NYC.

Shortened: if you look at Boston's tourism numbers, you will see that many people care about Boston. @ReturnoftheBrotha This is incorrect on many levels. First of all, I would like to make my tier list for cities. Metro areas of 5 million+ is first tier. Metro area 3-4.99 million is second tier. Metro area 1-2.99 million 3rd tier. This would be the most commonly used tier chart when talking about a big city's metro area. Secondly, I said that Philly has a *similar* metro population to Houston. This is true. As of the 2018 estimation, Houston had ~6.8 million in it's metro, while Philly had ~6.1 million in it's metro. This means that they have similar metro populations relatively speaking. This would make Philly a first tier metro. As of the 2018 estimation, Boston had ~4.8 million. I live in LA but have been to NYC a few times. Its hard to say which i prefer as both cities have their charms. i'd say NYC esp Manhattan is more vibrant and really makes you feel alive, its also super expensive. LA is my home so theres that, we have great weather year round but in my part the San Fernando Valley it does get hot in the summer.

Nyc is a walking city. Everything you could ever need to live is in walking distance. LA is a driving city. You kind of need a car to get around. I personally love nyc a lot better because of the architecture

I’d say New York is more “iconic”, due to how prevalent it is in pop culture. I could probably name like 20 movies off the top of my head that take place there. LA is literally where the movie industry is, and they have their fair share of spotlight too. LA also gets way more hate in my experience, but New York has its downsides.

kitano0 Most people in New York live and work inside so air temperature and snow aren’t very big factors. However in LA there are earthquakes and there’s no way of escaping them unless you’re in an airplane.

That's not 100% accurate but overall, yeah. LA does get hot (above 85) and occasionally humid in the summer and early fall and it can get cold at night during winter (lows in the 40s). But NYC really only has a couple months a year where the weather is nice and comfortable (late spring, early summer). Peak summer is too hot and humid, fall gets cold and dark quickly and is really cloudy, rainy, and windy, winter to early spring is too cold and snowy. And unlike LA, most people have to get around on foot (or bike), so most can't escape it in a car.

Not to mention the actual lottery for low income housing. I don't mean in a figurative sense of drawing names to decide who can buy a place, you actually have to *pay to enter* ; it is a true-to-definition lottery, save for the fact that if you're picked you don't "win" (as in money or a free house), oh no no no no, haha, you win the opportunity to take out a loan and buy it.

Honestly, I like how it’s more spacious in L.A than in NY. All those tall buildings in NY would get me dizzy and a little fatigued like how it did in this vid.

One thing i hate us that when ppl say they cant drive in NY because of all the bumper to bumper traffic its because everytime they see something in NY they only see Manhattan, where traffic is bumper to bumper. Go to the other 4 boroughs of NYC and u can drive anywhere🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. And im from queens so i know.

If u just lookin at a highway from the bronx on "GOOGLE MAPS" thats not gonna tell u anything compared to someone that was born and raised in NYC most of there life. @@tb4670 ive been on that Expressway and its not bumper to bumper.i just looked on google maps. Down here in Florida seems like there is more traffic here cuz ppl down here cant drive for shit in FL. U wake up in the morning and see at least 3 car crashes on the I-95, and if u do see bumper to bumper traffic its usually cuz of the holidays or rush hrs which r mornings when ppl r goin to work n shit and when they leave work around 5pm- like 7pm

After going to La so many times and after being to NY for the first time. NY is definitely a way more entertaining place to visit. Especially if you like the nightlife. Everything closes early in LA. NY literally never sleeps.

@@bigslime2235 Brooklyn. I frequently have work in Manhattan as well. City's dead very early into the night, you'll find something to do it you REALLY want to. As you tourist, I'm guessing you really wanted to occupy your time and experience NY nightlife so you chanced upon some places open late. Those places are few and far in-between.

I'm a New Yorker so I gotta go with my beloved NY. But you gotta respect LA and it's influence on the world as well. It just comes down to taste. NY is very fast paced, busy, literally a concrete jungle full of life. While LA is more laid back and suburban, beautiful weather and beaches with a slow chill vibe.

I have visited both. And being from the east-coast I would say that when it comes to the people, NYC seem way more down to earth, while LA seems a bit more superficial. NYC skyline is definitely awesome but LA does have the best "always sunny" and mostly warm weather and they have palm trees lol. I would say for touring and visiting, NYC wins hands down. But if I had to choose one to live in...I would have to go with LA cause I like palm trees haha.

Born and raised in Brooklyn moved to LA, they’re not comparable both are extraordinary simply because of community . for example Leimert Park is so culturally impactful and has changed my life tremendously, I think the comparisons do a disservice. There’s magic in both places and that’s the only way we should every try to compare.

I used to live in NYC for a couple of years and also been to LA for tourism but idk why i just got a different vibe when I visited LA, like it made me feel like I wanted to libe there whereas in New York I loved it so much but I wouldnt live there again unless I really have to, it's too hectic and chaotic

Haven't lived in either place, but have spent a lot of time in both. I have always enjoyed my time in both cities, but if I had to pick one, I'd go with NYC. I enjoy the hustle and grittiness of NYC. The best pizza is in NYC. Skating in Rockefeller Center or Central Park, the Met, catching a show on Broadway, going to the top of the Empire State Building, plus the amazing and super convenient public transportation.

honestly. i love them both. i would love to enjoy my summers in la, chilling by the beach with my bestfriends.. and chilling in nyc during springs, and sometimes winter. I love the idea of that lol. i wanna do this :D

Also work in showbiz too, so would make sense lol, I'd do it for sunny weather, laid back vibe, beaches, nature, and changes of pace.

Never been to LA but i go to NYC all the time for work and just to visit. Besides finding a place to park NYC is an amazing place to visit. there is always something to do or see and is surprisingly clean for a big city.

Not gonna lie, when I first hit play and heard Mr. Beat's voice, I thought "When did Brad Colbow start doing things other than drawing tablet reviews?"

There are so many hispanics and Asians. I moved from Central Ohio to LA in August 2022 and in Ohio there were White and Black with a sprinkle of Asian nothing else but here theres white, Black, Hispanic, Mexican, Asian and surpriseingly Indians

I am from Saudi and I dealt with both people workwise. NYC people are direct and punctual which I like while LA people are laid back and fun to work with yet its not always good for the business. I still love both cities and Americans in general.

People in L.A. are cool, relaxed and not that stressed. That’s what I felt like living there. But indeed L.A. needs a better public transit and they are working on it, they are expanding the subway 🚇 and the bus lines (I saw signs that say they are) Another shocking thing is that Los Angeles has a really bad homelessness problem. I was very shocked and to see Skid Row, WOW! I never thought anything like that existed in the US! It’s so bad you’d have to see it to believe it. But I still love LA! The weather, the beaches, the mountains too, the people 😊 Starting the day with a hike at Griffith Park and then going to the beach later in the day when you’re done with work or errands is just lovely

the one reason I don't like how relaxed people are there is bc laziness is not fun. I live in Florida at and it bothers me having to wait for days for my professors to reply to my emails. my mom was a teacher and guidance counselor in new Jersey and she said that the school faculty would respond right away. la is cool for it's film making history.

that's the difference. in all major west coast cities, homeless people are cordoned off into tent cities. in the big east coast cities, homeless find their own way and aren't usually together except at homeless shelters.

If I have to go back to big city living, it's going to be LA because that's my hometown. But, being born, and raised there might make me a bit biased. For me, having space is a major part of my decision. I also don't like people all that much. This is why I left LA four years ago to live in Central California. LA has more space and less people. It also has more of the people I DO love and care about living there such as family members and my bff's. I also love Disneyland, and the California coast, both of which are in driving distance in LA. So, for me, there's more incentive to be in LA. New York is alright for visiting, though I think outside the city in upstate is by far more preferable for a nature lover for me. But New York does have some nice live entertainment venues, I mean Broadway musicals are awesome! They have some great US history to be visited as well. But I never want to live there. Traffic may frustrate the hell out of me, but I'm grateful to drive places in my car. I love having a yard. I love California's hills, and mountains. And you can drive to so many places from LA. You can visit SEVERAL different landscapes all in one day on LA. You can start in suburbia, go to the beach, the desert, the woods, the mountains, etc. all in one day. You also forgot to mention some of our tourist destinations, such as The La Brea Tar Pits, Hollywood Bowl, Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm, Sea World, Legoland, Anime Expo, The Getty Center, Aquarium of The Pacific, Los Angeles Zoo, Long Beach, and Disney Concert Hall. There's lots more too. And we're in driving distance of Sequoia National Park which has some of the oldest, and tallest trees in the world. And Vegas is also within driving distance. Sorry, I just love my hometown. Won't go back to living there, like I said. I want to go more rural, and have property and space, but if I HAD to live back in a big city, LA is my pick.

As a European I know about these two great sities mostly from books. I mean I have felt as if I really was right there (in my imagination). So for me LA is Charles Bukowski sitting in his place tearing next sixpack beers and going to night job in a postoffice by his Comet69, and NY is Holden Cauldfield taking on his strange hunter hat walking toward Central Park to check if there is his little sister (though now I am reading A Little Life by Yanagihara, but it still Holden)

As a CA transplant to NY 5 years ago, I moved because I wanted to see snow (I don't have to shovel), I don't have to drive or own a car anymore ($1500/month expense), walkable+bikeable, a functional 24h transit system, great food, the arts. Rent is cheaper in Manhattan than SF where I left. And I'm closer to Europe for occasional getaways.

@@badcornflakes6374 from my personal experience, I'd have to say that's true, but you have to drive a few hours to get to them. As well as that, getting snow in your hometown feels much different than getting it in a place that already has it where you have to travel to. I live in Rome, Italy at the moment. I have lived here for 3 years and I have never seen snow here. I could go to the nearby mountains to get snow but it wouldn't have anywhere near the same feeling.

Hey, Mr. Beat. You forgot to mention that New York City celebrates New Year's Eve at Times Square. You can see the glass ball drop when we countdown to the new year.

I've lived in LA my whole life (over 25 years), and I love it. The people get a bad rep as being shallow and neo-hippyish, and those people exist, but we have regular ass people too. I learned to enjoy the strengths of the city-- beach, mountains, night-life, concerts, events, access to legal weed and other extracurriculars. I go out several times a week and often see incredible DJs that I'm a fan of. The weaknesses of LA are obvious-- the homeless problem has grown exponentially in like the last 5 years, with tent cities occupying some sidewalks; human s**t on the ground or smeared on to things; and yeah, the public transportation isn't great. Overall though, I'm having a great time, but don't want to stay here forever.

As a Chicagoan I prefer New York.

I have met him in Amsterdam, and didnt know who he was. Smoked a joint with him, and suddenly a couple women started to ask him for his autograph, lol we were like huh wtf,, who are you, he explained and it made sense. Couple years ago though Hahaha
