New York Beauty Quilt Block Sunflower Quilt, Custom Quilting on a Longarm

Ойын-сауық

Custom quilting this traditional quilt block using free-motion feathers, pebbles, and spirals mixed with dot-to-dot quilting and other quilting rulers. I think I stitched a good design to supplement the piecework of this quilt and add a little ghost quilting for drama.

I love that you include some real time and some 3x speed- I feel like I have to quilt so slow to get good results and this is encouraging to see someone else slowing down. You do beautiful work.

Custom quilting is definitely slow quilting. 🐌

Gorgeous. I will be referring back to this when I quilt my Quiltworx Gummi Dots. Lots of good ideas. Thats the hard part for me. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to watch the long version later

Thanks for watching! The Quiltworx quilts can be very daunting. My advice is to really take your time and plan out each element at least a little bit, even if you change your mind later.

Stunning work! Do you preplan the design on paper or just do it intuitively as you go?

Thank you for sharing. Love your work. How long did it take you to achieve the artistic perfection with your machine? And what is your machine? I just bought a mid-arm (Q'nique 16X), an very intimidated by it, but did quilt my first ever quilt (oversized crib-pattern=Loving Wishes by Maple Cottage, great for this beginner) and it was acceptable to me (being a perfectionist I had to remove stitches that weren't aligned).

Congrats on your new machine, and welcome to the longarm quilting world! Unfortunately, there isn't a really fast way to get really good fast. I did it the long, hard way of practice and just kept quilting. There are a ton of online courses that can really help you achieve your goals faster. (You can find mine on my website quiltingcurvestudio.com) But all the courses and watching videos will only get you so far. You gotta just get stitching and try and use your machine everyday. I stitch on an older Handi Quilter Avante, so not much bigger than yours! You can do it, just don't give up.

I notice you keep your left hand by your quilting. I’ve only dabbled in free motion, and tried that based on watching you. Just curious how you found that to be helpful. Don’t see other KZread quilters doing that. Makes sense to use one hand on the machine. We don’t use two hands on the pencil.

Yes, I like to feel the fabric for fullness, I also find it easier to gauge my spacing when I can have my hand on it. I have very poor eyesight
