We have a specific cocktail we usually serve at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the menfolk always want to come in and dribble booze and sour mix and cherries and blender parts all over my kitchen _exactly_ when I need a nice clean space most for, you know, _preparing time-sensitive parts of the holiday _*_meal!_* So this year we pre-mixed the the cocktail and served it over ice instead of doing that whole production with blendering up a slushie sort of thing. *It worked most excellently well for my sanity!* Maybe next time we'll even arrange to make some crushed ice in advance and stick it in the garage freezer, which would help a lot with the proper amount of dilution, and also not get in the way of dinner.

I've been making bottled cocktails for special parties for a long while. I usually chill them and transport them in a thermos. Happy New Year.

Glen, you and Julie are so fond of gin. How does someone like me who tried gin in my early 20's learn to like it 40 years later? So many of your gin cocktails look so good.

Just like me. But a couple months ago bought mini bottles of gin, a couple. Made dirty martinis with lemon slice garnish and over ice to dilute as I sipped. Enjoyed more than vodka. Then made gin and tonic another time and love it now. Go get a few mini bottles and give it a try.

Gin is a polarizing spirit, I find - like tequila. People love them or hate them.

@@rippermcguinn That's scotch for me.. years ago, when I was a bartender, one customer wanted scotch and *gag* milk. The bartender reserves the right to not mix a drink that clots - as a new rule, didn't fly.

What time should I come over?

Ah. Portable cocktails... In university we would mix portable cocktails, suitable for football games, street parties, etc. Our cocktails were much simpler however. A favorite being "Purple Jesus". Grain alcohol (80 proof perhaps) and grape Kool-Aide. Served, preferably, in a wineskin in order to take on that piquant musty leather tang. Drawbacks could be wicked hangovers, spacial disorientationor temporary blindness. Not sure anyone is familiar with that one or maybe it was just a Queen's University Engineering practice! Why "Jesus"? On account of the wineskin?

I want to get them a gold plaque in 2023.

Does anyone know how long a bottled cocktail with citrus or some other fresh component would last? Would the alcohol preserve the juice? Or would this be a time to use those little squeeze bottles. I imagine either way you’d still want it refrigerated.

I wouldn't keep it for more than a week, the citrus will eventually 'turn' or become bitter.

Canada uses the same time zones as the USA.
