    can you turn off the internal fan and just use an External fan like the glowforge ?

  • @MonkeyWoodworks

    @MonkeyWoodworks

    Жыл бұрын

    On the exhaust fan, the only thing you can do is disconnect it. However, there is a sensor built-into the P2 and XCS will complain letting you know there is a low voltage warning on the fan (since it is not plugged in). xTool's official stance from what i read is that you can use an external in-line fan along with the built-in fan at the same time and it should not harm the built-in fan.

    I am new to laser machines. I pre-ordered this new one and wanted to ask where would be the best place to set it up? It looks as if you have yours in your shop. Do I have to worry about all the saw dust from other builds if I have it in my garage shop or would it be better to set it up in another room of the house?

  • @MonkeyWoodworks

    @MonkeyWoodworks

    Жыл бұрын

    I keep all my engravers in the garage/shop. They do get sawdust on them from time to time but doesn't seem to hurt them. I keep this one covered with a harbor freight moving blanket to protect it at the moment. I am still undecided where I want to permanently keep it. It will be in the garage/shop just not where it is now. That is actually my main workbench / router table so it can not stay there!

    A general rule of thumb is 10W per 1 mm of acrylic for cutting. For most people who are looking for a multi-use laser cutter recommended power for CO2 laser with a glass tube is 80W because it's considered a sweet spot for both cutting and engraving

    I just kinda don’t get the idea of spending this amount of money on such a weak laser. My fiancé and I rent a much more powerful laser that we use for industrial production. But for the footprint of this machine and the investment you can buy one hell of a cnc machine instead. A laser of this power is not going to cut through plate. And, correct me if I’m wrong, but the precision of a laser is not noticeably superior to that of a cnc. I build rgb lasers for animation purposes as a hobby. The beam diameter of a consumer laser is not that small. I use a Bobs CNC to etch PCBs that I prototype in Eagle before having them manufactured in China. If I can prototype PCBs with a consumer grade CNC then I can’t understand what in the world a consumer laser does to deserve it’s price tag. Lasers aren’t exactly the most efficient source of cutting power. Now, granted, they makeup for their inefficiency in power when you buy an industrial model. The one we rent is phenomenal and super accurate. But something of that power requires an enormous amount of room for cooling, venting and wiring. And please don’t take my comment as being cynical or rude. I am not an expert and I’m obviously watching this review to learn from you. I just can’t picture in my mind why people buy consumer lasers. I mean you can burn or etch with lasers contains a $20 diode off of Aliexpress. And burning, engraving and etching seems to always be the focus of every consumer laser advertisement. They lure you in with the word “cutting” but they never show them cutting anything substantial. If you want to cut laminate wood or acrylic then buy a vinyl plotter. My Roland vinyl plotter is superior to any laser. Plus it has an optical eye to literally read the canvas. So, let’s say you screen printed a ton of identical wooden keychain heads on a piece of laminate. You could run the pre printed laminate through my Roland and it would “see” the shapes and cut them out.

    I think the thing that sets this a part are the additional features this unit has. Things like the multiple cameras, the automatic contour following ability, and automatic pass-through feature. But, I do hear what your saying. It definitely has a large price tag on it and not for everyone.

  • @originalfallinggirl

    @@MonkeyWoodworks thank you so much for your reply and the contouring makes sense. And I really hope my comment didn’t come off as cynical. I’ve been binge watching your vids and live them. I was just really interested in the particular demographic that the laser was better suited to. I’m sure you’ve seen Naomi Wu (@reallysexycyborg) channel. She is actually a friend of mine who I’ve known for a long time. I met her in Shenzhen one time when we were shopping factories. That girl is BRILLIANT! And I’ve asked her personally about what her opinion is on laser technology. She pretty much confirmed what I was saying. Namely that the “Jack of all trade” machines (like the ones that can 3D print, laser etch and cnc) are masters of none. And there is laser technology that is way superior to cnc but it’s the footprint that is the problem. Not to mention that they all draw more than 50 amps. Anyway, I’m a new sub and I love your channel 🙏👍😊
