Great video. I do a bit of recovery here in the UK with my 1968 Series 2a Land Rover. Although I know about doubling the winch power with a pulley it's always good to have a visual reminder. Thanks for your time, keep up the good work. Cheers, Colin

Agreed on the doubling up on the cable, the math says a lot of pressure on the cable,Ron Pratt had one video, Him and his father pulled a U Haul van 180 degrees in the woods,an ATV winch, going through several snatch blocks and it did it,These are great videos

Could you have spooled all the way out with the winch, past the end of the cable, then kept turning the winch barrel to make it technically reverse the feed? Might have been worth a shot.

Do you think adding a locking front axle to the wrecker would come in handy ? Especially with a bunch of weight on the rear and slick mud , it might be useful to have true 4wd ....

Next time, raise your boom, chain it to the back of your bed (to avoid stressing the cylinder) then winch yourself out forward with the boom winch. I've had to do it with a Holmes 440, so I know it would work for you.

In this situation you are correct in the rigging, ( multiplying the energy x2) but only because the winch vehicle is anchored. A simpler description would be to always anchor the winch cable back to the winch vehicle to double pulling force. Thanks for your time on the videos BOSS....

I learn so much from your videos. Thanks. Though I'm curious. I'm not a physics guy, but you said running the 6,000lbs cable the way you did makes it 12,000lbs. Is that 12,000lbs coming from the load on the winch motor or the load for the cable?

  • @Puckgrinder85

A (travelling) pulley doubles the output of force and is stressing both lines equally, however you have to use appropriate rigging to take the force you plan on using to get the job done. Anchoring the jeep to an immovable object like a tree is asking for trouble and is NOT recommended by any wrecker manufacturer out there. If you need more pull then use more deadman and more lines to get the anchoring needed.

With as much mud as the wrecker is put up against I think its time for the military tires and open diffs to go. It would make it a much more effictive vehicle, and as far as i've seen its always trailered to events so street manners wouldnt be a concern
