A few months back I was eyeing the 3700H as I need to upgrade to a 9 channel AVR from my current 7 channel one. I am so glad I waited as I also run two different makes and models of subwoofers so the independent subwoofer outputs is invaluable for me.
Hey Channa. I didn't know where to throw this one but here it is. The addition of Auro to the X3800 is a Godsend. I have a 5.1.4 setup but a buddy of mine just got the X3800 even though he's still running a 5.1 system (he's going to upgrade it next year). I loaded one of my presets with a 5.1 setup in order to test the three Virtualization systems that the X3800 comes with for him. With native Atmos tracks, Atmos Height Virtualization sounded pretty good. It did expand the sound stage of the 5.1 system out pretty well (although bumping up the volume a few DBs helped). Virtual:X enhanced DTS tracks very well on the 5.1 setup. The sound was fuller and more dynamic than the Atmos Virtualizer. However, for the most part Auro 2D Surround with its Auro-matic up-mixer was better than both of them with either Atmos or DTS many cases. Its sound stage was very full and the perception of overhead sound was more effective. I also found it to be very good for music since, for me, using height speakers for CDs or other high bit rate music, is overkill. We set his 3800 up and he loved Auro 2D on his 5.1 system. He wasn't gong to add heights until sometime next year but this makes the wait much more palatable.either audio encoding.
Its been a minute. Hope you are living your best life.❤❤❤

Thanks, bro! DJing every weekend has got me tired, LOL!
I just bought the Denon Denon X3800H A/V receiver and set it up. This a/v receiver is totally bad-ass for the money! For less than $2,000, you really feel like you're playing with the big boys with this AVR. A DIRAC upgrade will be available for download sometime in 2023 (for a fee). I experienced much more immercise sound and somewhat of a picture improvement with the Denon X3800H. I can't recommend this AVR enough! Rock Solid from Denon.

Yeah, It's been tough, trying to get this content out with all the DJing I have been doing.
If this gets the spatial room correction and it works properly it will be like having a theater anywhere. A theater with good sound is something we don't talk about enough. I sat in so many movie theaters becaue my dad managed cinema chains for 47 years. I remember the special rumble movies from the 70s when they just started using lfe...those huge curtains they would draw back!. Star Wars the original on a big screen was the most fantastic thing you ever saw in your life. The opening sequence..holy shit the sound!!!! Absolutely amazing. I watched the Star Wars in the same one screen like 25 times. Anyone alive in the 70s will tell you there was no multiplex in your town it was one theater and you waited in line for hours. This is why I love this hobby becsue I sit in the dark and have the tech in my home! When I was a kid I had a black and white TV set that was 5 inches to watch baseball.
Love the price tag, Love the connectivity!

The directional bass stuff they added seems like a solution to a problem no one had, especially since using it effectively disables Audyssey's SubEQ HT. But something I thought was very cool with the X3800H was in-AVR support for tactile transducers, with the ability to apply a separate filter to whichever sub out you assign. That will be a big deal for anyone running shakers.

I love seeing these Auro configurations that give us access to center height channels. Sadly I’m still holding out for a 7.x.8. This 5.1.6 option is still awesome though. Dirac, Auro3D, and HDMi 2.1 with a 7.4.8 would be perfect to have the height layer mirror the bed layer, which will really help vertical panning of flying videogame enemies.

This was great! Had one question, did this model fix the previous issue Denon A/Vs used to have with Xbox 4k 120hz gaming? I know for the 2020 models this was the case.
Hey TechoDad. Will Auro3D work with a pretty standard 5.1.4 or 5.2.4 system (5.1 or 5.2 with Front/Rear Heights, open room so side surrounds are not doable)? If so, would it likely sound better than native Atmos or DST:X with those setups as well as up-mixed Dolby or DTS 5.1 audio tracks? Thanks.
Great videos, I recently moved on from my sr5014, I’m looking at a few receivers to replace I didn’t know if you had a leader in your opinion. The x3800, lx505 or rz50. Any help would be greatly appreciated
There WAS a time when I used to buy into the hype being pushed on Auro3D because I kept seeing it on KZread videos, but then I shopped around for physical and digital media to rent/buy that had the Auro3D formats to listen to, but there are NONE because everything is in Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, or DTS-HD here in the US. The biggest take away on this new receiver would definitely be the 4 subwoofer connections which is becoming more available on newer receivers of other brands. Directional subwoofer base would get me to fork over more money on a newer receiver.

Hello! Great video and great channel, you got one more subscriber :) I need help....I have to decide between two AV receivers - Denon X3800H and Yamaha RX A4A aventage....I know that Denon is 7.1.4. (9.2) and Yamaha is 7.2. I will connect Wharfedale's DX2 5.1 system and one pair of atmos speakers. Primarily for movies and music , some causual gaming on PS5. I know that it would be great to add more speakers but now it is not that important to me, Which one has better audio quality and is better made ? Which one would you buy? I don't have opportunity to hear them before buying. I saw that Denon has a couple of bad reviews - that it has outdated parts compared even with x3700h (cheap soundbar DAC's), it is overheating and has trouble with HDMI ? P.S: Yamaha costs around 300 euros more.
Hi TechnoDad. I think/hope this AVR can be even more versatile. What I'm looking for is using Preset 1 and 2 to enable best possible configuration for Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D. Let's say Preset 1 is used for Atmos 7.1.4 with front/rear heights with maybe front L+R externally amplified. Now I think Preset 2 could be used for 11.1 Auro. You'd have 5 bed layer speakers. From which still can have front L+R externally amped. Still same front/rear heights. And in addition center height + top surround that will be connected through external amp from the surround back pre-outs (remember surround back speaker terminals are already used at Preset 1). Would like to hear your thoughts on could this be done. If so maybe more people are interested in such maxed-out atmos+auro configuration.
@TechnoDad
Жыл бұрын
Hi! Great question! I’m not 100% sure, but according to the manual, I think this could be done. Here is what I would do. Get a 5 channel amp to power the front speakers with channel 1 & 2 on the external amp. Connect your surround back left and right to the speaker terminals for your Preset 1. For Preset 2, connect the Pre-amp outs for surround back left (VOG) and surround back right (Center height) to channels 4 & 5 on the external amp. This way, all your speakers are connected at all times and all of them have amplification. Like I said, I don’t know for sure do this will work, but from what I’ve read, I think it will. My only concern is making sure the sound comes out the correct pre-outs. Meaning, you may have to get two, 2 channel amps instead of using a 5 channel amp. Just turn one on and the other off when switching back and forth between preset 1 and 2.
I just got the denon 2700h and the samsung 55s95b tv. I'm using the apps on the tv. but the sound doesn't come out of my speakers. the devices connected straight to the receiver does play the sound. Can you help me ? not sure what i'm doing wrong

Should I get the 3800h or Cinema 60?
I've read on Audioholics that beyond the differences between the x3800 and x4800 price, made in Vietnam vs Japan, plastic vs steel front, couple more inputs, larger transformer, 2 more 12v triggers and 20wpc more with a monolithic amplifier. There is a much larger difference that I couldn't find anywhere else stated. The x3800 uses cheap soundbar DAC's in it, 93 db vs the AKM 107 db, which is a 14 db drop. Not only that, using the x3800 in preamp only, you'll never get close to 1v let alone 1.5v. So something to consider, the x4800 might be worth the extra money if you plan to just use it as a preamp/processor, much better SQ.

Can you do an 11.1 or 11.2 with 7.4.1 or 2? Does this completely disconnect the receiver's amp section from the pre-out's pushing all 11 channels to a monolith X11? Or do you lose out on your 1.0v+ preout capability like previously without moving to the 6 or 8 series Denon? The new AVR can handle 4 subwoofers and process 11 channels. So if you are using an amplifier, you should be fine. I was using this with (2) Parasound Amps and had no issues. As for HDMI, the ports on this AVR are 2.1 compliant and yes, eARC is only for the TV connection. If you are referring to HDCP 2.3 support, yes, this AVR does have that as well. Am I the only one who's not excited about the inclusion of 4 subwoofers and Auro 3d? I think it's 9 channels by the way. At this price point, I can't see them adding more but if they added anything, I'd prefer it to be in the power supply or the electronics (better audio output). Less metal, maybe better structural rigidity. If anyone is using 4 subs with this unit, do yourself a favor and run to replace it with a toroidal AVR (sadly few exist but reinforcements are underway) and bi-amp your state-of-the-art LCR speakers that you spent $5,000 on which claim an impedance of 8 ohms but the manufacturer clearly forgot to divide by 2 on any frequency under 5khz and need double the power and as clean as possible to do their work in any audible frequency.

@@dangr123 I was commenting that a mid-range AVR that supports 4 subwoofers is not a feature that would be commonly used as subwoofers are expensive and 4 of them are the realm of very specialized home theaters that usually have much more expensive electronics. You won't see anyone using this 3800h with Perlisten speakers and 4 of their subwoofers. In fact, I'd be shocked if anyone used them with the Arendal 1723 series and 4 of their subwoofers. As for the voice of god speaker, how on earth did we live without it? Were we considered atheists before? At some point, we'll refer to sound as Before Atmos and After Atmos - BA were the dark ages, people had B&W 800 series speakers that were relatively inexpensive with supersized amplifiers that were as heavy as KRELLs. AA we have bluetooth speakers around the room that are relatively expensive but sound so good with low powered amplifiers.

@@techsamurai11 I agree that four is a bit overkill for the target market here but I'm happy that it will support my mid-fi speakers and two pretty decent SVS subs. I don't care about Auro3D but my current receiver can't handle any 3D audio formats at all. It'll be nice to have a 5.2.4 system with Atmos and be able to tune it with Dirac... Without having to get a separate DSP. I don't know of any other receiver in this price range that would be able to do that.
