I think the biggest difference between ML convoy, and Toy Prime, is that they weren't limited to what the toy had with Toy Prime. They look alike, but this one is designed from the ground up rather than ML which is G1 toy+

To me, the two are only similar in a general sense. As you say, the purpose of ML was to faithfully recreate the original toy design with the benefit of better articulation. This other toy is instead designed to be a new modern affordable version of G1 Optimus Prime. (Which is why the cheaper one can have better looking arms; it's goal was to be a good Prime/Convoy the character, instead of a "perfect" recreation of the original toy. Yeah, I never liked the original toy arm design.)

The fact that all of this didn’t get visually leaked early is great, and I am very excited for a flame

I was jokingly hoping for Scrounge when the yellow hand leaking into Straxus's package art was pointed out, but Flame doesn't require a whole new mold, so it's not really surprising. Sigh, there really is none like it.

Unfortunately Cy-Kill and Leader-1 were basically spot on identical to their toys, for which Bandai still owns the trademarks, so at best they'd get similar color schemes with not even the right heads on a repaint of some other motorcycle and jet. Legacy Animated Prowl or Crashbar, and Metalhawk or Needlenose, maybe.

@@dialNforNinja Actually if you look at legacy blitz wings mold it’s nearly perfect for Leader-1. And with most of the tank mode being attached on via one hinge, you could easily take it off and then have him “completely accurate” to the onscreen model of Leader-1.

I think that the Legacy Missing Link is better in a sense because I missed out on the OG Missing Link, but this one has smokestack weapons, weapon storage, and an Ultra Magnus repaint that I’m waiting for. So looking at this and the other figures, I was surprised to see that *everything* is a retool.

It's clear they're going to give us a U.S release of Missing Link Prime....they're just going WAIT for everybody to buy this one FIRST. Aka: Hasbro back to it's ol'tricks.

I’m so glad that they went full stop for Armada Galvatron. I even appreciate the new head since it’s a very armada Megatron styled yelling face. You can hear David Kaye/Kiyoyuki Yanada screaming from it.

The Legacy G1 Prime is actually filling in multiple roles at once. The biggest one being that it's a G1 Prime at the Deluxe price point, which he hasn't been available in over a decade. It provides a similar design philosophy as Missing Link, giving an affordable alternative to that. And it's an entirely new mold rather than ER without a trailer, so fans and collectors don't feel burned.

I just got interested in collecting Transformers again, in the lead up to Rise of the Beasts, and the LEGO Optimus Prime coming out. I haven't collected since 2008 or so, and come to find out I've missed a golden age of Transformers the past few years. Prices have gone up like crazy since back then, so I can't go all in like I used to, but there's still a few I want to get. I bought Blitzwing on sale, and I have the Autobot 5-pack pre-ordered. I might get that Soundwave, since he is one of my favorite characters. That G1 Optimus Prime is surreal. Price is much more reasonable than Missing Link, but I don't like that it's smaller.

I 100% agree with TJ that the Optimus shouldn’t have just said, “G1 Universe.” Because Gears, for example is marked, “G1 Universe” since he’s a G1 character. He’s based off of the original cartoon, and he’s G1 cartoon accurate. This figure is made to look like the toy, he doesn’t even have colors that are based on the toy deco, the new toy is exactly designed to be from the old toy. It’s the “G1 Toy Universe” Optimus. They really screwed the pooch imo. 😅

The whole point of doing G1 Toy Prime is to have an Optimus at the Deluxe price point in Generations, something that hasn't happened since Fall of Cybertron. (or Thrilling 30 if we're counting Orion Pax) And rumor has it that we're due for an '86 Optimus Prime as a Commander class.

I guess that would be me. I already have the previous Metalhawk, but I like the look of this one as well, and really wanna get it too. Also, that deluxe Optimus is a must for me. I've always like a more toy accurate look better, specifically the yellow eyes, they just look better in my opinion. But to also have the figure build to resemble the original toy instead of animation? I am sold!!!

I definitely did not have "Siege Refraktor into Emirate Xaaron" on my bingo card. Granted, I don't think I expected Xaaron to begin with, but it does make sense with the comic packs. As for Flame, I'm alright with the Gamer Edition Megatron mold here. It was never going to be comic-perfect for such a relatively obscure character, but he's got spiky limbs, the toy's got spiky limbs, it's not like it's a Masterpiece, so I'm fine with it. And I figure some 3P group is going to come up with a cannon upgrade kit. The one GoBot homage in the current era I've missed out on is Bad Boy; I actually got Road Ranger because I also wanted Puffer for the novelty of Puffer and figured, why not? We really do need a Deluxe-class Powerglide so we can also have a Bad Boy. The Optimus figure might be nice to have as a desk bot, but I don't think it's a must-have for me.

In defense of the Metalhawk recolor, the goldenrod orange is a better base color to apply gold paint to, since wear at friction points will make a dark spot instead of a light spot, which shows up less. Only really applicable to weirdoes like me who paint their toys, but maybe Toyhax will make some foil stickers to chrome his chest up?

Hear me out: A Seeker retool that's mostly grey with bits of dark blue, combining colors from the first two color schemes; red wing stripes and a new head for Leader-1 Two pack with a red and black redeco of Scrapheap to make Cy-Kill Note: Pathfinder's a female character.

Am I alone in wanting a new Cryotek ? I mean, of all the repaints, this should be a no brainer.

I swear it feels like Hasbro is allergic to giving major female characters their own molds, especially if you want anything bigger than a deluxe. She deserved to be a voyager with her own mold, which is unfortunate.

I like the coloration on the new Metalhawk. Not enough to buy it or replace my Evolution figure, but I might have preferred the new one ever so slightly.

I think the difference between the Animated and Prime handling is that Animated is well regarded because Derrick was an awesome guy and they want to respect him, and Prime is popular in the west but did horrible in Japan and they want Takara to be able to sell the stuff they design instead of having to swap a figure out like with Thundertron -> Silverbolt

Pre ordered Wave, G2 comic, and the GoBots. Everything else can wait. Wish they had worked on Wave at least to make him as tall as Blaster.

I love the Windblade mold, but it is NOT Slipstream (and definitely not her Cyberverse incarnation like the figure is supposed to be). She really should’ve been an ER Seeker redeco, then she’d look closer to her CV self and she’d be in scale with all the other Seekers.

If hasbro ends up doing a Marvel soundwave, I hope he's purple...and has a mouth

Flame and Emirate Xaaron is a splendid surprise, though a lot of people called it might be Flame. I'm counting on a 3P upgrade kit for Flame.

Honestly I don’t know if I should wait for this soundwave or get the 40th reissue one. Love to hear your pros and cons about each figure to help sway me on the matter.

Quake should have been a repaint of Kingdom Slammer. They haven't used that mold for anything else, and that would have looked way better.

I'm not defending it, but I haven't gotten a Metalhawk yet, so that one is as good as the other for me. Same for Soundwave.

24:00. Smallfoot had a similar robot and vehicle mode to Gears, so it's not that big of a deal/change other than colors and the face. Tbh, I wish they'd use a Seeker Mold to make Leader 1 with a head swap. Think the Gobot Tank had a similar body plan to Warpath too.

I'm really excited for that Deluxe Prime. I won't be surprised if there's a repack of it with a trailer in the future, which I hope isn't a reuse of the ER trailer and also comes with Roller. I'll probably get it too and if the Primes are identical I can see myself customizing one with some chrome paint and maybe the inevitable Toyhax stickers.

Sorry to pick you up on this but Xaaron is actually a retool of Reflector/Refraktor just with LOTS of kibble added to make the crappy tank mode. Feels a bit of a weird choice but I guess a surfboard is the easiest generic figure to make into him given he is very robotic with no visible alt mode kibble on him in the comics.

The Legacy Evo deco for Metalhawk looked awful with the plastic shade used for the thighs, weapons, etc. This new more so toy-inspired deco just works for me, as I think the gunmetal/silver used automatically makes it more visually interesting than the original release.

The must buys for me are Deluxe G1 Optimus Prime, Deluxe Quake , Deluxe Slipstream, and Leader Class Soundwave.

The Gobot 3-pack!

I think I’ll be skipping out on almost all of these. Barely any of them seems interesting enough for me to grab, and my new living situation, with more bills, doesn’t help matters either. I get remolds and repaints are common, but I do wish there was a bit more… new here.

That deluxe Prime is very interesting, definitely gotta keep an eye out for it.

I'm really interested in this Optimus & like how it looks more than the ML version and glad i can finally get this version of Soundwave with the Rumble as a bonus.

I am definitely excited for the Slipstream, Galvatrons, Quake, Optimus, and Soundwave. Not a huge Gobots guy, and I would have preferred a Pathfinder that actually looks like her, but laws stand in the way of that. Anyway, I have been collecting all of the Modern Unicron Trilogy stuff and those two Galvatrons look really good, especially the Armada one. Now we need Powerlinx Optimus Prime to recreate the epic finale. I don't care about the Slipstream's inaccuracies, I still want my little enigma of Starscream's personality trait. I love the vibe of that Optimus so much, even though I wish he were bigger. Honestly if they just cut out Metalhawk there'd be enough budget for a voyager scaled Optimus Prime, some more new bits for Slipstream, and maybe another repaint, but eh, at least he'll look nice with the Earthrise trailer.

I suspect that the Metalhawk was done because he's a heavy retool of Cyclonus and Hasbro couldn't think of anything else to repaint the toy into but wanted it to be a little different from the original. Personally fine with the original. To be honest, I'd kind of hoped Soundwave would've come with Laserbeak, Ravage, and Buzzsaw.

Speaking of Gobots, i'm making a small objection that why you refer Pathfinder as a Boy when it's actually a Girl, noted by you said "His" on her when referring to the Guardian Sigil.

Even as someone with Missing Link, I'm going to get the Deluxe G1 Prime as a pocket bot. My C-01 is already showing some chrome wear, and I need a version I can be less precious with.

Finally, a metal hawk redeco.

I was championing Metalhawk's repaint the moment they mentioned last stream it would be toy based. But I was imagining not just the darker grey plastic, but more importantly, a golden torso (darkened metallic yellow)... Instead, what we're getting is as TJ said: based on the shell. How disappointing. But at least his weapons look nicer! I'll consider getting him on clearance. Only one I want from these lacklustre reveals is core Energon Galvatron. He'll be a neat addition. Wish there was more I'd like, but I don't care about G1 Optimus, nor much of the comic-centric characters.. and I too, was never fond of Armada Galvatron colour scheme. Was really highly anticipating Slipstream, what all the retooling lengths they've been doing lately. But they dropped the ball hard. If I can't even have her wielding her ARM cannons properly, that's an instant no for me. I'll just stick with Legends Slipstream. Edit: Geocron is starting to gain my interest; only rock to do so, besides Shard.

But I'm probably getting that leader Galvatron repaint, just because I'm probably going completionist on the Unicron Trilogy stuff. It and RID2001 were my childhood, so I want to support them. Plus... the toys have been really good for the most part.

something that wasn't mentioned, rumble is in G1 toy colors rather than the toon colors used on the core class release. which means that TECHNICALLY, if this is toy accurate, he should be called frenzy. but he's still called rumble. ...debate finally answered RIBFIR confirmed canon? and now how are we getting toy colors frenzy? honestly, I'm kinda disapointed soundwave came with ravage and not both rumble and frenzy, because they're all toy deco, they had the chance to do something incredibly funny and list them as "rumble (red)" and "frenzy (blue)"

After extensive perusal of my collection, having been CONVINCED that the xaaron mold looked SUPER familiar to me, I have determined that he is a retool of.........the reflector mold......for....some...reason. Case closed, mystery solved. Now im curious to see what happens if you buy\combine 3 of them together.
