New Tech! * Gold Drop Concentrator!

Review of the Gold Drop Concentrator by Sluice Goose. This fluid bed concentrator is designed to clean concentrates and return either clean gold or very easy to clean gold. Reducing the amount of time taken to clean large quantities of gold concentrates by at least 10 times. This does not replace gold panning, but it sure makes it a whole lot easier to get your gold from your black sand concentrates.

We were using this technology back in 1987 in Nova Scotia to process gold samples, eventually an entire lab full of fluidized gold separators. It is nice to see the tech repackaged for the small scale prospector.

My step dad invented something similar to this. He has a pecan picker upper he drags behind his lawnmower to pick up all the pecans. He has a leaf blower attatched to 5 sections of pvc pipe and 2 bins. 1 for the pecans to fall in and the other is for the debris like pine needles, pecans hulls, etc... to blow into.

I watched that Gold Mining show many years ago and was impressed with a vibration table they used at the end. The cool part about it was you could easily see the separation and if it was loosing gold you would see it right away. It was vey fast and handled a lot, but it likely cost a lot more too.

It is really interesting to see this different concentration mechanics at work! The way I see it, the gold drop doesnt truly separate by weight but by "water drag" with a strong *negative* bias for flat shapes. A wave/shaker table works on friction and mass (with a strong *positive* bias for flat shapes), so it would do a stellar job of getting rid of the round black sand. In a perfect world, I can see a really fast 2 stage cleaning process where the gold drop cleans cons as an intermediate with the primary goal of getting rid of all the the lights + flat/oddshaped black sand. Then run those cons through a shaker/wave table (friction based/density concentration) and you should basically recover clean gold? Also, subbed.. I've been relying on the algorithm for all my Dan Hurd content so far, but I've commited now! :D

Dan I worked in several giant Advanced Waste Water Treatment Plants for 31 years. We had huge cyclone De gritters. When you run tons of grit swirled in plastic tubes and rotameter units the swirling organic materials cut through plastic pretty fast!! These Cyclone DE gritters work fantastic! But in future you will need either metal or thick glass for your profession. Something which can handle abrasive materials. (Paul from Oregon).

I think this sort of contraption works much better with tighter classification. Instead of running -1/16 and having a hard time dropping the fine gold taking advantage of the 3:1 gold to black and using a 2:1 ratio a 1/16 to 1/32 class vs a - 1/32 would allow it to pretty much deliver clean gold.

Glad to hear we'll seeing more from the Trout creek site in the foreseeable future. Pretty cool product and nice review/guide of how to use it. I'm curious though, it made me think if similar or better results could be achieved for separating gold from heavies, by increasing water viscosity enough via some kind of agent which can be fine-tuned to only allow particles of a minimum specific gravity (more or less) to fall through? Perhaps use a water circulation method to initially liquify and discard the bulk of the very light particles, and then have it fed into the next phase where the heavier particles are filtered via high viscosity fluids.
