When I'm shopping, I can't help but notice the overweight and obese people of all ages. Almost all of them! And I used to be among them. So glad I lost 65 lbs from IT, OMAD, and carnivore. It's a lifetime commitment. I'm 67, and if I can do it, so can anybody. It depends on how much you want your life back. When you hit rock bottom, you'll know..

I agree. And it’s getting worse. KZread algorithm threw me a Mukbang video. That’s where kids in their 20s and 30s literally gorge themselves on thousands of calories and film it and these weird people applaud them for doing that. There’s one kid who just turned 30 and is now 400 pounds.

When I was in elementary school in the 60's, you usually had one kid that was overweight, and maybe one that wore glasses. Everyone else was board skinny. I've never really been overweight, and weigh less now than I did in high school, where I seasonally was about 107 lbs. in fall and winter, and dropped to 103 lbs. in spring and summer. I ate what I liked and perceived was good for me, and didn't trust the constantly changing societal directives, plus I can't stand to sit around for long. It's extremely uncomfortable to have any excess weight on, so I don't. It definitely helped that when I had each of my 5 children, I breastfed which causes your uterus to cramp and go back to normal. I still like to climb trees, and I'm the one that you'll see balanced on the 15 ft. ladder sawing off a tree limb. LOL! Use it or lose it!

@@prayntongues At 60 and from Seattle area I would agree, and also those who were considered overweight in the 1960’s and 70’s were still far less overweight by today standards. My mother stayed home or in her car because of her weight, she would be stared at and felt embarrassed otherwise, she did not attend any of my school activities for that reason. She was 5’4” and her weight varied between 250 to 300 tops. Fast forward to current times, I see people her size out in public all the time. My mother had to have large dresses made for her back then, now we have a market with Plus sized clothes. It’s good someone larger can get clothes, but sad it’s necessary. She did not drink or smoke, but had a food addiction to processed foods and deserts mostly, didn’t exercise either, she died of colon cancer. She taught me what not to do at a early age, I never saw anyone else her size growing up and realized it was all preventable if I did the opposite things with embracing healthy food and exercise.

Thank you, Dr. Baker. I'm a black woman in my 60's and have been obese all of my life since my 20's. I could tell stories about why I got this way but it doesn't really matter. It saddens me to no end how many decades of my life I lost because of food...it's truly heartbreaking and no matter what I tried, nothing was sustainable. As of now, I'm almost to the BMI of overweight instead of obese and I could turn flips I am so happy. Thanks to people like yourself and other carnivore doctors, and lots of prayer, I'll never be the same! I have lost a little over 100 lbs now and have a bit more to go but for the first time ever, I know I will make it and I won't be back this way. I feel so much better and even want to exercise now where as before, I was so tired all of the time, just absolutely dragging and I was taking vitamins and everything to no avail. Sometimes you just don't know, and I didn't. I trusted doctors and they failed me and countless others. Now, I don't trust them, lol! I come and research and find people who have the results that I want and see what they have done and who they have listened to and that's how I found you and Dr. Berry and Dr. Chaffee and others. I had no idea this type of info was available and that it would change my life so much! I'll never be the same and that is a good thing. Thank you for all you do...some of us are getting it!

I'm 68...grew up on a farm, always ate pretty healthy. Lost all the weight after each pregnancy...and I had 3 children late in life...35, 38, 42. I thought it was the menopause in my early 50's that I somehow ended up with 10 extra lbs. I was going thru a divorce, but right before that we had found son#2 was Celiac. We were eating a Paleo diet, but still consuming non-gluten grains, on occasion...and LOTS of veggies. I had bought an estate auction home on 3 acres, so I was working my butt off gutting it, as well as redoing the whole outside, which had been left go. I NEVER stopped. My oldest became a salesman for a new Gold's gym, then a personal trainer. For a solid year I was at that gym everyday, including Saturdays, and many times Sundays. I didn't lose an inch or a lb. We had also found out that same son#2 has a gene for Reactive Arthritis...and in my late 50's I was getting my health coach certification thru IIN. I had really given up trying to lose that 10lbs. I figured it came with menopause and being older. A chain of events happened right around when I was graduating, and we connected dairy to the last food to cut out to turn off that Reactive Arthritis gene (HLA B27) for my son. Seeing his total changes, I decided to cut out the last of the dairy...and BOOM, that weight just started falling off. Not just that 10lbs, but I lost 3 dress sizes total. At that time I was walking 3 days a week on the local rail/trail by my home, so it wasn't that I upped my exercise. The ONLY thing I changed was eliminating dairy, which also turned OFF his gene...and he is now PAIN FREE...and it also allowed him to drop the weight, because dairy, for us, is a definite way to gain weight! And, yes, we even tried raw cow and raw goat dairy. I went Carnivore at age 65...and three years later, I have never looked back. I feel fabulous ditching all those veggies!!! Unfortunately, in today's world, most people don't value their health as I do. I've done everything possible to not become another statistic in my family of heart disease, arthritis, and being overweight.

Having lost 100 lbs over 7 years ago, and keeping it off, I can attest to the level of dedication and discipline it takes. In my opinion, it takes far more consistency and persistence to accomplish and sustain significant weigh loss than many of the other accomplishments that people valorize. For people like me, and millions of others, who have a hard time controlling themselves around hyperpalatable foods, the mental fortitude it took to accomplish the weight loss (by using low carb in conjunction with intermittent fasting) was far greater than will power it took for me to graduate from university with academic accolades, or move up the organizational ladder at my company, after my collegiate days. From what I've seen looking it up, I just see a lot of people only eating meat. That would be nearly impossible for me. A lot of fiber is horrible for you from what I've read and experienced for myself. I've had GI issues for decades, but I was constantly being told "eat more fiber!" by doctors, nutritionists, etc. All it did was cause my GI disorders much worse. I'm sure lifestyle (diet, exercise, daily movement patterns, etc.) are the primary reasons for this. But, do you feel that regional DNA origin plays a role, too? I feel like people from some areas have a greater propensity to gain fat, given a fixed diet across all groups. Also, people from some areas seem to have and grow more muscle than others. I don't mean this by race, but by region. Team 3D Alpha - KZreadr has some interesting views on this. Definitely we should all be eating whole, unprocessed (in the modern sense) foods. But like you even mentioned, clearing out processed foods and eating more whole foods, is a baseline that benefits anyone. I think relentless stress from society plays a major role in why so many people, especially women, are gaining so much weight these days. Childhood trauma or sexual abuse also plays a role. Having a mate or significant other who is abusive can play a role as well. I've noticed that when some people get rid of a bad partner, they lose weight. So I think for many people, stress is a very big factor that isn't talked about. Like drugs and alcohol, food is a coping mechanism for whatever has gone wrong in a person's life.

A qualified nutritionalist put together the advice for the food pyramid. She refused to have her name on it after the senator in charge let his grain growing and vegan buddies change it to the monstrosity that came out. She warned them if they put it out and people followed it that there would be a massive increase in obesity, diabetics, heart attacks, strokes, depression, dementia, autoimmune disease, cancer, etc. She was right. For the 80 percent of the population with some degree of carb sensitivity, it is an obesity causing death diet. I starved myself fat on 1200 low fat, high fiber calories a day. I could get 70 thousand steps a day at my job. I went to the gym every day. I stuck with this as my father was diabetic by age 34. I use to give him needles. My dad always felt I was the most likely to become diabetic as I had the hunger shakes as as child, just like he did. When I was pregnant I increased the calories to 1600. Gained 80 pounds. Felt guilty about gaining. Felt guilty about not eating enough for the baby. The my husband had 3 strokes and we found out he was diabetic. I put him on the Adventist influenced diet they gave me. Every 3 weeks both he and his blood work were worse. This went on for 8 months. I read Good Calories, Bad Calories and the Oiling of America. Changed both of our diets. His next bloodwork improved and kept getting better. Several months later a stranger understood him. I dropped from size 18 to size 6/8. Kept it off for 13 years now. No starvation or hunger shakes at all. While I am still active, I am no where near as active as I was before retiring. No diabetics and several other health issues fixed. No amount of activity can undo the damage of the government Spencer's death diets. That is why they now push fat acceptance.

I'm not sure what other ladies are experiencing, but the stress of my family/friends health in covid times has been extreme. Ad to that, increased costs with gas/food/bills and we are poorer. I work in healthcare, and the terrible treatment I started receiving during the shutdown while employees in less dangerous fields made $3 more an hour hazard pay increased levels of stress and anger. My weight is up and I am not surprised.

I grew up, thinking I was fat. Probably because my mom was always on a "diet" or saying negative things about her body. Looking back at pictures, I really wasn't. My weight gain came in 2 parts. First, we stopped dairy farming and started trucking. Boom! 30#. Give or take. After about 10 years of that, I quit smoking. Yup, packed in another 30#. Here I am at less than 5' and I'm weighing, 200#. List an enormous amount of muscle mass. Joints went to hell in a hand basket. About 12 years ago, I read both Adkins and protein power. Cut out a lot of junk and tried to eat mostly animal based. I did lose 60#. It wasn't really noticable because by that time, my hips were so bad that I was walking hunched over, with a cane. Very demoralizing. 7 years ago I had both hips replaced. The same day. Fast forward to today. I've maintained the weight loss. I'm not eating animal based to maintain and build muscle. I refuse to be the little old lady that needs help getting off the toilet! I'll be 72 in about 6 weeks. My family is following my lead. I drive can and school bus. I'm also a volunteer driver for the county. I take the obese,. diabetic, younger people, to appointments.

I started the carnivore diet a few weeks before I got Covid early Nov. 2021. I was hospitalized due to low oxygen level, had a pulmonary embolism and was put on a ventilator for 15 days. Did not have Remdesivir thank God. By some miracle I survived. I was 50 pds overweight, 215 pds 5’7 1/2” at the time I was hospitalized. After 38 days in hosp. I lost 47 pds. While rehabbing with family I started carnivore again but with a few low carb veggies (zuccini, fresh green beans and avocado). I gained 7 pounds which I needed to get stronger and have maintained 175 pds since I left the hosp. Jan. 2022. I hope to get down to 155/160 in the coming months. I blame my weight more than the doctors I deal with. It’s weird.

60+ Always skinny, sometimes skinny fat, got a wild hair and decided to add weight, mostly muscle, by deliberately "over eating" and doing Starting Strength. Was able to pack on 20 lbs, strongest i've ever been (relative sense lol). Then stopped my at-best intermittent lifting, but kept pounding crap/carbs/processed food, plenty of work stress, aaaand bloated. Re-entered 2nd cycle of carnivore. Dropped 20. Kept most muscle, look/feel much better, now considering seguing off my 3 month+ carnivore *sensibly* into a Vertical Diet ( Stan Efferding FTW) and packing on more muscle. In some sense, Doc Baker got me started on this No Bullshit approach to food -- hardcore experimentation, keep eyes open, and Starting Strength built my muscle. Winning combination. Since I'm broke AF but also zero meds and zero debt, hoping to be able to work and last another 30+ years at least. Keep on rocking Doc Savage!

I am a 51-year-old female. Thinking back to the times in my life when I put on the most weight was definitely under extreme stress. Financial stress in my marriage, and stress because my mother was going through Alzheimer’s and I had to help care for her. Those were the 2 big ones. I’m 5’6” and a normal weight for me is about 150 pounds. The highest I ever was was 179. I’ve been active most of my life. With very short intermittent downtimes. I credit my love of nature and the outdoors and the movement of my body to helping me boomerang during tough times. In 2015 I realized I had to make a change. I looked around my culture and my community and I analyzed the things that were not working. I got super damn honest with myself and became something of a realist. I also think birth control has A LOT to do with it. Pumping hormones in your body always has side effects, some more manageable than others. For me personally I gained 35 pounds in a year because of it. There was little to no change in my lifestyle that whole year and I had a very active job. Doctors lie to women saying things like "it won't effect your fertility" "there's no evidence that it makes you gain weight" "once you stop taking it everything will go back to normal " I'm trying to lose the weight but it feels harder getting and staying in shape ever since. It's one of my biggest regrets.

Became obese at 14. Developed PCOS thirty years before any doctor would diagnose it. Depression. Acne. Inflammation. I literally ate BALANCED meals. Salads, chicken, etc. I home made nearly everything with the best ingredients I could afford. By 44, I was 241 pounds. My blood work was perfect because I was so attentive, but the sugar was a little high. Then a random blood test revealed Systemic Scleroderma, a terminal disease. Panicked, I lost forty pounds in six months with water aerobics and low carb. I gave up a diet soda addiction overnight because I had four kids, I couldn't die. A complicated hip replacement surgery in 2017, combined with enormous amounts of medication, messed me up forever. My nerves went on fire. Even in my eyes, mouth, rectum. I was suicidal. Five years of appropriate supplements and somewhat clean eating have resolved the worst of it. I am now hoping to knock it out permanently via carnivore. To prepare, I started with six weeks of keto OMAD, then slid into Carnivore. Two weeks in, I have barely any cravings for sugar. I have dropped from 180 to 167; my lowest in 27 years. Only other benefits so far are softer skin and less anxiety. But I am hopeful. Thank you for being such a great advocate of healing through food.

I have since lost 30 of those 40 pounds, and kept them off for 5 years, but those last 10 are proving recalcitrant. Over the years, I have changed my diet significantly. I was overweight from my early 20's to early 50's. Got scared after some health issues in January and started researching the best way for me and found several folks like Dr. Shawn challenging the existing "knowledge" and touting carnivore. I went carnivore Feb 22 (2/22/22) and am down 70lbs since then and feel better than at any point in the last 20 years. Around 4 months in now and wearing smaller pants than when I graduated HS. It's a kick seeing people I haven't seen in ages. They are almost all overweight, yet after getting over the initial shock and asking me how I did it, they tell me eating meat all the time isn't healthy for me... I just point them to folks like dr Shawn and tell them to research what they think they know through today's science. I am going to have days where I eat things that are bad for me, but as much as I love this way of eating and feeling I know it will be for very special celebrations only and will happen just a few times a year because I never again want to be that fat, scared, ignorant bastard sitting in the ER at 6am with half my face drooping. @@alubik Glad you found it inspiring. Honestly the first three weeks were pretty difficult. I was eating three times a day and trying to fit in a million different things people on KZread said I needed, like liver and beef and seafood and pork and eggs, and trying to figure out if I was getting the "right" fat to protein ratio they were recommending and I have to say that coming off the standard American diet (only worse) and quitting alcohol at the same time I really had some crazy brain fog and some mood swings, along with the previously mentioned intestinal issues. I also needed to learn to RELAX and focus on eating fatty meat that I enjoyed every time! This was also the most expensive time of the diet for me, as eating three meals a day full of meat was way more than the one meal a day I eat now. I am generally under $15/day for food now, but was around $30 then (still cheaper than the $35+ per day I was spending before carnivore) so ate a lot more cheddar cheeseburgers and bacon and eggs than ribeye steak like I prefer now. Somehow through all of it I still felt like I was going in the right direction, as I also lost 15 lbs in those first two weeks. Once I hit day 21 it was like a light switch turned on and I felt WAY better that morning. I even mentioned it to my wife and in my journal (which I never did before this carnivore trip but recommend as well). I only started exercising after that as I also do carpentry work so was getting enough physical activity already. I exercised for a few weeks until learning how exercise can affect weight loss negatively, so eased up on the exercise, instead focusing on making sure I was active throughout the day. I didn't start doing any fasting until about day 60. Hope that helps! Take care and I hope things go well for you on your path.

I've since managed to take off most of that weight due to extreme low carb and intermittent fasting. However, the hidden elephant in the room (heh) is WHY do women want to be so undesirable? ;) This is a tangled knotted mess, the whole issue. My heartfelt feeling on this is (no, no studies..) scratch the surface of an obese woman, you'll find an abuse survivor that never told anyone. Now men are looking at me again and it terrifies me. I don’t want the attention. This is a mental war. I know many survivors and they are the same. I have had threats made to my life and I’m under police witness protection. I was also WFPB vegan for four years. Now I am full on carnivore/ lion.

I gained 12 pounds when I had to go back to full time work five years ago. When I was a stay at home mom I was just so much more physically active during the day. I was able to combine exercise with social activities, I was less stressed and I had more time and energy to shop and cook healthier meals for my family. Now I sit at a desk for 8 hours a day. I do go to the gym 2x a week plus yoga but it’s a struggle to fit it all in. Chronic Insomnia is the bane of my life - I feel so exhausted most of the time and I really notice that when I have a bad sleep night I tend to be hungrier and crave more carbs. The other thing that set me back was a surgery I had on my foot and then the very strict lockdowns we had in my country - months and months not being able to leave the house, not even for exercise. I gained another 10 pounds in this time and I just can’t seem to get rid of it. I would love to work less hours and focus more on my well-being but it’s not possible as I am currently the main breadwinner for our family.

I'd say forget trying to exercise if you don't have the time. Focus on eating low/zero carb, that's where the bulk of body composition comes from. Kelly Hogan doesn't really exercise, just a bit active with things she enjoys, but she's zero carb with a husband and 3 kids. Maybe she has some videos that could help you.

I was never overweight until my mid 40s. Now that I know what I know I was probably insulin resistant and put on a lot of weight very quickly. Of course I wasted a good few years on low fat diets before I discovered keto. I am still a work in progress on the weight front, but I had an angiogram and was told my coronary arteries are remarkably clear. And an abdominal ultrasound showed a mild striation of fat. I'm well on the way to regaining my health. I'm 64 next month and I can happily do a 10 mile walk over the Downs. Some of my thinner friends are way sicker. A couple of TOFI diabetics. If you saw me stood beside them you might judge me as the most unhealthy based on weight. Although my skin is great and I look younger than I have for a long time. It's never to late to start reversing some of those numbers and improving your health. Weight loss is a bonus.

Great comment- I remember, starting in the 80's, it was all about 0 cholesterol, no/low fat, 'whole wheat' breads- oatmeal and yogurt, CANOLA oil, and let's not forget aerobics!! I have always been so well informed(I thought!)about nutrition, I was obsessed with diet & exercise, & I've always been thin, & athletic- track/gymnastics & ballet, even weightlifting. Ballet class was the 1 thing that just about destroy me, physically and mentally- my instructor(s) was brutal on us girls, you were NEVER thin enough, & my gymnastics coach was thrilled, because I had these muscles! But for ballet, this was somehow terrible! She'd say 'Now you look like little boy!!'😣 - So I ended up with a real 'handy' eating disorder. I wish I new then, what I know now- we NEED fat, healthy fats/animals fat & meat, & plenty of salt too! A little bit of vegetable, if you like. Also, people just eat TO MUCH! My family & friends who are overweight or just unhealthy, they asking me 'why you are not being so fat?' So when I tell them, 'I eat high quality fat and eggs & meat/fish(&salt!)', all they heard was, High Fat 😳!! It is interesting how people do not WANT to eat the right foods- 😕they say, Well you always too skinny, ever since little girl...They never ask why was I so much skinny. I'm very happy that you are feeling healthy - that is the best thing!😊

I never got to heavy. I topped out at about 220, most of that was gained during my 30s. At 37 or so I decided I was to out of shape so started intermittent fasting and keto, a lot of cardio, long hikes/jogs, etc. Dropped down to 180. I then stopped the crazy cardio and started working out again and am back up to 195 at 41 (6'1"). I'm sure that 15 pounds is not all muscle, but a large amount is. I'm no Brian Shaw, but I was able to get my squat up to 290 and my deadlift about the same (never cracked 300, and then I pulled my groin and decided to stop "heavy" lifting). Bench is up to 250 for reps of 5. I would say at this point my diet is animal based, with about 90-95% of calories coming from meat and eggs. I never had any autoimmune or other health issue, so I have never felt to the need to be strict about any diet for health reasons.

6:28 I'm 6ft tall and I noticed this at my highest weight around 230-250lbs. I really wondered how people could get any bigger. I was eating alot and like 12 hours day. And 2-3 times a day on the toilet, 15min to defecate. It was terrible. Not much meat of course, mostly lots of bread(brown bread), potatoes, and processed sugars/oils of course. it got to the point where my body just started rejecting the seed oils and sugars. I'd be throwing up lots. I even had to throw up steak. So I stopped eating steak. Eventually figured out it was the BBQ sugar sauce - not the meat! I was scouring the internet looking for knowledge, trying lots of stuff. I was doing my best to try whole food diet....which inadvertently had lots of bread, potatoes, fruits. But i'd still cheat with fast food and cookies. Thank goodness for Joe Rogan podcast with Dr Rhondo Patrick and her intermittent fasting talks which eventually lead me to channels like Dr Ken Berry, Dr Eric Berg. of course I'm a glutten for knowledge, so most people just overlook those kinds of videos.

Women have a couple more issues unique to us that cause weight gain or make weight loss difficult: PCOS-all kinds and menopause- all stages. Then, women tend to have thyroid issues more than men; which menopause can create, too. And, it doesn't help that we women are born with an extra fat layer. Or, that God designed us to store our fat in the middle as we age. So, while you see an older fat woman, she can be eating the best and exercising. Yet, it won't show in her appearance, necessarily, but her blood work would be fabulous.
