legend, all the things i wanted to know that no one was answering in the first 35 seconds: no rim brake, not UDH, and (unfortunately) no mineral oil
You are the best reviewer. No bullshit, technical breakdown of everything. Love you my guy.

Great summary. No marketing BS just the specs and facts.
Fast on the post after the embargo lifted, well done Shane
I always appreciated how well-structured and concise your reviews/videos are. It’s clear you pay a lot of attention to detail and editing. Thank you as always!
Fantastic review. To the point, hits all the highlights. Seems like SRAM's updates were a step in the right direction.
Love the summary of key features at the beginning. That's all I wanted/needed to know. Still watching the entire video! :P
I always appreciate your honest opinion, Shane.
Aweseome review GPLama!!! thanks so much for taking the effort and answering all questions I had. I have SRAM on gravel like you and Shimano Di2 on Road, I will be open to having this road bike when I get a new one.
My two biggest gripes with SRAM has always been front shifting and DOT fluid. One down, one to go.

As always great review
Always the best reviews, Cheers!
I can't believe the Bonus buttons don't get more love. I use these on my Shimano setups all the time when in the aero hoods position and it's awesome. Being able to shift with you hands draped over the hoods in so useful and anyone that uses the buttons to cycle through a computer is wasting them..
Another instalment of great content. Thanks Shane.

Glad you enjoyed it!
The reason imo the FD is black is because my original eTap FD has scratched up slightly and i reckon the dark colour will make that better oh i just love that lever shape already!...
Looking forward to putting my hands on these in person, especially those top accessory buttons. Those seem like theyre in the perfect spot 👌
Good review, what I was after and direct and to the point. Lots of content I haven’t seen elsewhere. Personally I would have liked to see a UDH or UDHR (road?) pushed out as an option. Get all the hangers the same.
Finally "Di2 buttons" on Sram! The ability to control my Wahoo from the Di2 buttons have long been the main reason why I haven't given SRAM any consideration so far.
Well I know the embargo lifted at 10 am 😂. Four videos in my feed haha. You get first. Ronnie Kuba did show it off in his new bike video yesterday though haha.

The amount of leaks of this was bullshit to be honest. There’s was a serious lack of professionalism shown by so many with this… all to be first and get the clicks. I fucking hate it.

I still can’t wrap my head around the unchangeable PM/rings combo
I look forward to seeing your install of the new levers on you older Sram Red gravel bike. Specifically how the new levers work with older calipers, and if the new levers require a longer hydraulic hose fitment due to the longer reach. Or, if you get both new levers and calipers together, are new calipers needed to optimize the lever improvements.
At the back end of the 10 speed Red production, SRAM introduced a revised version still on 10 speed replaced shortly by the almost identical Red 22, but on 11 speed. I was thinking at launch that this 12 speed Red might just be a place holder until they come up with the 13 speed one. And with the 1x13 gravel prototype spotting that is on the cards.
No Otters where harmed in the making of the new chain 🤣

Yes one of the fuckups that slipped through. Spotted it 45mins before launch as I didn’t have anyone to check it prior.
Great review . I've been a long time devotee of Shimano, but have SRAM force on one bike for 5 years, Based on that SRAM experience my preference would be to opt for Shimano every day of the week. In my view Shimano has proved better on gear changing, especially under load and for its better braking. Now with the release of the new RED, it looks like these deficits have been addressed to the extent I will get this new groupset
Great review Shane - do we know if the levers are backwards compatible yet?

@@Captinfun101 Well the updates are timed for the US market I think, what do you have ?
Really interested in the 160mm crankarms; wondering if those crankarms would be compatible with the previous RED chainrings; or if the new RED crankset will be compatible with the old RED shifters.
I am a little bit disapointed with the group. Really thought that they would drop the weight a little bit more to get near Dura Ace. Happy that the brakes are still on Dot 5.1, so I can use my Hope calipers. Best thing on the group is the new lighter chain and the levers. The rest is boring. I will just buy the levers for my 2nd bike and will switch to Dura Ace for weight resons on my 1st bike.
I talked to sram about buttons on the top of the levers yrs back to sram, obviously took a while for them to realise 🙄
Any issues waxing the new chain with the hollow plates in addition to the hollow pins?
@gplama
2 ай бұрын
Unlikely to be a problem. I didn't switch the loaner bike over to waxed.
can i just switch to the new hoods/levers due to the easier braking and leave my other red components the same or would i need to change the whole groupset?
@gplama
2 ай бұрын
Yep. Backwards compatible.
Shifter design still looks slightly flat on the top. When tilting the hoods in this doesn’t meld ideally with the palm as the palm sits on a ridge. Manufacturers still aren’t designing shifters with a hood tilt in mind.
You didn't review the power meter? You had one job Shane, one job. 🤣 Review coming soon?

Sad to see the blip ports go, I have some custom buttons voor my etap 11s simple plugin the port and no extra batteries. How repairable are the new derailleurs? I will keep 11 speed for as long as I can 12 speed AXS made third party chains and chainrings almost impossible

Yes, fully compatible. I’ve already installed new red FD. Stability was improved but very rarely chain dropped too (FD installed and adjusted with factory tool)

Love watching your videos reviews and impressions. But I always hated Sram. These levers are so ugly. Always has. So does the groupset as a whole in my opinion. I'll stick to Shimano.
Is there a change in how the brake pistons work? In previous gen SRAM one piston is always extending before the other. Shimano has it so that both pistons are extending at the same time. Did they fix it in the new Red?
50 years after and SRAM still trying to figure out the FD LOL
