Testing out a new solar surface pump for shallow wells, springs, boosting and especially rain catchment systems. It is a quiet, field serviceable pump that delivers more than enough water for most home and garden applications. It's ability to tolerate water that is not so clean, like rain water, makes it a great choice of pumps. I pumped up to 11gpm with solar direct. We also ran it on a battery bank.

    This dankoff pump looks excellent! One beef with the setup: accurate flow monitoring needs at least 10 times pipe diameter behind the flow sensor and 5 times pipe diameter afterwards to eliminate turbulence created by fittings, especially elbows. 90* elbows especially have interesting turbulence where the outside water stream flows faster than the inner... by almost 20%, I believe.

    Nice, pretty too. I just had to replace my surface pump, too bad my budget couldn't handle a pump like this! Of course this would work best as a backup, not a primary pump, with the sun being so scarce these past few months.

    I'd really like details on that setup, like a scematic of sorts. I'm drilling a well soon and want the underground pump to go to a large 1,000 gallon storage tank, then fron that tank to the pressure tank so I can run the above ground pump from solar since my well may be too deep at 275 feet...

    I have an idea to create an Air conditioner using a pump that flows a water solution through 600ft of geothermal pipe then call the fan on my forced air unit that will blow across a heat exchanger. I keep my house at around 76 degrees which is hot for most but we just don't enjoy the house to be any colder. I will use a owf to heat my new 1700sqft house so accomplishing this would really be a money saver on my utilities. My yard looks like a dirt pit now so what is a few more holes... I haven't seen anything on air conditioning off grid in your channel and I knew you would be the one to ask. I know this will work to some extent. Maybe it would be a good experiment to see the possibilities. I guess, I am challenging you because you are more intelligent than myself. What would take me years to figure out would take you days.

    Hi, I have an off grid cottage and we draw water from a shallow well. I have a solar panel set up and it comes down to a charging controller, then to a 12 v battery bank, then to a 4000w inverter. Now when we draw the water its coming from over 200ft, so it takes a while to bring our tank to pressure. So the pump runs for a while and eventually blows the 500 amp breaker we have before our inverter? any suggestions on what might be causing this? The inverter is only rated at 35 amps, and the 1/2 hp pump is 115/230v. And would you maybe suggest putting like a wash down pump out by the source of water and push the water instead of pumping it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Pete

    why not pump to an elevated tank and have gravity feed as a back up?

  • @davebean2886

    @davebean2886

    Great idea - if available, essentially the elevated water tank would act as the battery. It would be interesting to do a cost comparison for tank vs battery. I've been looking at various water powered pumps to pump water and have realized that in some cases comes down to the cost per volume of water delivered to a given location - in my case an irrigation application, but might be relevant for pressure tanks - not sure. Here is the link to the facebook group for Water Wheel Pumps and most of the approaches should be bench marked against alternative power like solar. Any cost for volume delivered figures available? Thanks. facebook.com/groups/240458583255303/

    Hello: I hope the Government don't come up and say they own the rain water. People never thought a company like Monsanto could control seeds for food. If you don't understand that just ask a farmer about his seed corn. You can not replant your corn seed the next year.

    bullsnutsoz We have no honest Politicians as I see it. They take money under the table to pass laws for the people that want to take full control of We The People. If Monsanto keeps going I feel in time they can control the supply of food like Joseph controlled all food in Egypt. They say History repeats itself. God made the food right the first time. Of course that's just an opinion. Thank You
