Great video, you can hear the enthusiasm in your voice. being a owner of a similar sized boat its nice for someone to make the pro's and con's of a large boat so clear. Few notes: the transom rings are not fitted in factory because not everyone uses then (no point drilling the transom if not required) and the rear cones are tapered down to help stability.

Fantastic Video, Love your enthusiasm, I've owned 2 honwaves 3.2 and 3.8 v floors, Had loads of fun aboard, Used them on many trips from Fleetwood to Piel island NR Barrow- in- furness about 12 miles one way across the bay, Had a 25 hp Suzuki engine fabulous, 🤔But size and weight is not always your friend, As I found out, there is always a trade off between size safety usability weight etc etc, I do like your boat looks great, I'm in the market to buy another sib + engine, As sold the honwaves just B4 COVID 😂 , Am weighing up all the options, Want the power but not the weight, Want the boat size but not the weight 😂 Dilemma, Excel or Zodiac cadet aero 3.1 or 3.5 my choice at mo, 20 hp Tohatsu best bet, Would like the triple cyl 30 hp Tohatsu but size and weight may steer me away and a little to much for a 3.1 cadet😂😂 One life..Let's hit the ocean, Anyway Great vid on your Excel.

Been following you for a while mate. Got the same boat but in red with a Suzuki 20 but did not get a chance to get it wet last year due to covid/health issues etc. I struggle on my own to move it around deflated and the bag Excel gave with it last year just wasnt up to the job. Although I believe they are looking at a more heavy duty option now. But you are a young fit guy so should manage. Not much online about this sib compared to the likes of honwaves, so will find it interesting seeing how you get on with it and will give even more to your videos.

I would like to see the pro and cons between the Excel Volaire and Honwave T38 IE3.

Nice looking boat! I have a 2.4m for my local dam which is fine for me but do wish I had gone for a 3.6m. Once I get my gear, beer and battery in for my motor its a bit tight but it works 🙂

I've crept up in sizes through the years and could never go smaller. It must be nice to carry your boat down the waters edge over your shoulder though!

Looks good. From the seat it looks like a gain in width is more than the gain in length.

I have the Volaire 480 and the new 20hp Suzuki electric. I bought 10mm EVA floor matting to protect the air deck. It’s a roll not tiles! The wheels bought from Excel are a little too short on the 4.8 unless u want to risk drilling into your air deck. They rub on the keel so I have them pointing out wards. This makes pulling the bugger harder, esp If the motors mounted. Can I lift it clear off the ground? Not a chance. Can I pull it? On the road, easy but still heavy, requires frequent pauses, on gravel, yes but the breaks are every 10 feet lol. Better to mount the motor with the sib as close as possible to the wet stuff. Fully loaded my SIB is 200+ kg! Once it’s in the water pfft :D Is it comfy? That’s all relative, gun it in chop then it’s slam, slam, slam faaackkkkk! N gear everywhere. Throttling up a wave n throttling of on the drop is acceptable. Folding up after, the sleeve that came with the SIB tore the first trip out trying to manoeuvre the thing. I bought 4 ratchet straps and never looked back. These not only help compress the thing and keep it reasonably rectangular but are great grab handles for muscling the thing into the car. I can honestly say that I do not look forwards to the wrapping, packing n lifting at the end of the day tbh. I think with the 3.9kg your life may be a bit less arduous. glhf :)

Hi, curious what you will use for deck cover. Also, what material is the boat made of. I have a Zodiak 340 (18y.o.) made of hypalon and was very careful to use the correct adhesive for mounting d-rings and bimini mounts on the tubes/chambers. Look forward to seeing how you will rig it with mounts for accessories.

Hi. I'm look at getting rid of my kayak and buying the Hydrus (I do prefer the Excel but the hydrus is a bit lighter and probably more manageable). I do a lot of Drift fishing. How did your hydrus behave in the wind/tidal flow?

Nice review Oban, how are you finding your new sib. I was a little surprised with the integral hp floor especially its appearance. I have a volante 390 but the floor is has to be fitted when inflating. I am not sure which is best and makes handling a little easier as it is a fair old lump to move around. I use mine pike fishing in Scottish lochs so only have 6hp on the back. I will say this these boats are very rugged and the 390 has plenty of room for all the kit.

lovely looking sib, the only concern i would have it been black is .....a hot summers day the inflatable will be baking hot, you will need oven gloves to touch it, but the black is very smart looking

I think that's a common myth that black SIBs get hot. I have spent countless days in the basking sunshine and never noticed much of a temperature rise... Honestly the water that it floats upon cools it

Hi Oban, looking g 4ward 2seeing the new setup. I took mine out for its maiden voyage last Sunday which was a success. My Question is what's the smallest auxiliary I could get away with on my 3.8m Honwave air deck. I got a 38kg Yam 15hp 2stroke on back as main. Top Speed was 19.2mph 2up plus kit and 24ltr of fuel. You'd not go far wrong with one of the Mercury 3.5hp 2 stroke. I believe it was/ still is the lightest engine capable of such power weighing only 13(?)kg I used to run one as an auxiliary and it would push a boat your size along at 4knots, just enough to trundle back on.

Excel are such solid boats I believe they’re owned by zodiac I’m thinking about getting a new sib myself but I’m not sure what yet

Hey! Thank you for all the great videos you have made. Me myself have a 4.20 SIB that I use for fishing in Oresund outside Malmö Sweden. I wonder what you have for electric pump ?, the ones I have tried have been for "Sup" and they can not pump up all the way to 3.5psi. So I have to use the foot pump at the end. Do you know any 12v pump that can do the job all the way? Once again thanks

That's so nice to know my videos have made it to you in Sweden, a country that I have a great deal of compassion for after the time I visited in 2017. As for pumps I cannot recommend the Bravo (scoprega) brand enough! A little pricey perhaps but it's the only pump you'll ever need again.

Thanks for the reply, I'll check it out right away. I have tried a pair for paddle boards, because they can handle up to 20 psi, but they can not inflate an inflatable boat completely .... I do not know why, but it has been a costly experience :). Thank you for everything and you are always welcome to Malmö.

Not sure about the air deck ,if it gets damaged or worn you can not replace it but only time will tell

Hi there, I have a honda honwave 3.8 Air floor and I am looking at buying another 2021 model 3.8 ie3. Do you think these Excels are better? I also looked at the mercury HD sport (Ali deck) 420 but the weight starts coming into it then.

I couldn't say with confidence if they're better because I've never used a 3.8 ie3. From my experience with other Honwave SIBs they are great boats but the two designs have many differences and for me the Volaire was the only way to go. Have a look at some of the forums with many threads debating this exact topic.

@@obanonthewater7796 Im using the Minn Kota Portable Transducer Pole Bracket from Force 4 chandlery. You can hinge it out of the drink when motoring to stop splash back. The splash tabs on the sib are fairly flexible and can be pushed in a bit.

With it being bigger, does it drift quicker? probably an obvious yes? I'm looking for a boat to lure fish off, and know just how quick kayaks drift in even slight winds. Good channel you have there 👍

Am intrigued as to why you changed up to a 200mm longer boat as it weighs plus engine 15kgs minumum more than the Hydrus. The floor is fixed to the Excel so you have to carry it insitu, unlike other SIBs where it's separate. Can you cover the ribbed floor with rubber matting like your Hydrus or will the ribs make it look like a whales back all humped? The grooves in the flooring are sure to fill with debris/fish scales and how will you wash it out if it's a fixed floor? It seems to me that as a single angler the extra 200mm, ropes on the tubes, ribbed flooring are all reasons why I wouldn't buy it. Can you please do a video of you getting the boat on and off the van roof by yourself as many anglers who are thinking of buying a SIB will find it a deal breaker

There are so many good reasons why I chose to upgrade to the Volaire 3.9m which will be adressed in future videos. It certainly is manoeuvrable singled handed-a bigger boat comes with so many benefits, the most important to me being improved sea keeping.

You should now invest in an electronic outboard. Torqeedo Travel or the e-propulsion units.

Hey I’m thinking of getting one of these but I live a drive away from the coast. My plan was to transport in my hilux and inflate/deflate each outing. Do you think this is a reasonable idea or am I dreaming?

That’s not an unreasonable expectation. In fact one of the major benefits of an air deck is they’re much easier to set up and pack away than an aluminium deck. It does take a short while to inflate as there’s a lot of volume to fill at substantial pressure so I’d highly recommend the best electric pump you can find in budget

I found a "Bravo GE BTP 12" same as Obans, but an updated version where "GE" what I understand is that there is also a cigarette plug, which I needed because I already have a mobile power station with me in the car. So now it is soon ordered and will hopefully soon be able to test and enjoy getting out and fishing again. Thanks for the tip.

According to the web site, the Volante is 66KG, the Volaire is 70.

Does Excell make the boats, or are they just a distrubitor of a chinese made boat?

Going to be hot to the touch in the sun. Very hot. I think I'll stick to white.

That's a common misconception. My previous SIB was black and in all the time I had it out in temperatures of 20 deg c + (which is rare in the UK) never once was it hot to the touch. You have to remember that the water that it floats upon cools the pvc significantly.

Are you driving with it inflated on your roof?

If I was to trailer I'd step up to an aluminium RIB but sticking this one on the roof rack/in the back suits me great. The unfortunate reality of a lot of launch sites I use being unable to park a trailer.

@@waltonangler7366 different in the design. The Hydrus having a removable floor spreading the weight makes it easier to carry and set up especially for those not so fit and strong. Can’t fault the Volaire for quality it’s a tank. The Hydrus has no ropes to get hooks caught in so in essence it’s more of a fishing vessel than a tender. Deffo interested in seeing how easy it is to mount on the roof of a van and if the ropes last very long.
