    amazing video! love those ugf boxes, i have the supplies but haven't build or used them yet ! one day! speaking of co2 + inert substrate, my friends use this method for their caridina tanks but with a co2 controller to keep the ph from 5.0 to 5.3 for safety. i just made a video on this topic, released in a few weeks, i think i scheduled it then :) i'm always intrigued about oxydators, i haven;t used them myself but it makes total sense to increase the oxygen levels in the tank, but to how much? there;s oxydator machines that we use in reef tanks and with a controller it injects to a certain level, keep up the great quality videos!

    Hey, Love your videos! Did I understand it correct, you use only RO Water without salt in the first 8-10 weeks? Only the day before you put the first shrimps inside you use salter RO Water? What is the reason? Is it bad if you use saltet RO Water from the beginning? Thanks and greetings from Germany 😊

  • @ShrimpMania

    @ShrimpMania

    Hey, there is no reason I use whatever I have on hands. If I just fill my water storage tank with ro water I use it. if I have already mixed salts I use ro+salts. If no shrimp in the tank it doesn't matter.

    I have watched a lot of your videos. Very well done. I am trying to do basically the same thing you are doing here with a planted tank with CO2 and Caridina shrimp. Do you run your CO2 24/7? I did not see any electrical or solenoid so I am thinking you do. Could I simply add an air stone to supply the oxygen at night? I do like your oxygen generator idea. Can you give me an update on how the shrimp are doing? I did see another video but I can't find it and I am pretty sure it was yours where you talk about a single stage regulator that when the CO2 tank is close to empty it dumps a lot of CO2 and can or did kill a lot of your shrimp. Sorry if that was not your video and I am having a hard time finding it. I do have a dual stage regulator in my setup. The PH swing is really wide when you turn off the CO2 at night which is why I am thinking you are simply running yours 24/7. Running both simultaneously CO2 with Oxygen seems they would cancel each other out though. Thank you for any insight and guidance you may have to share.

    Hey, glad you enjoyed my vids. The tank doing fantastic both of them, I have another one with co2 and shrimp in it (previous video) now I have plenty of green dust algae in both tanks and shrimp love it. All shrimp look healthy and active . Yes I run co2 24/7. One tank has air-driven ugf so it's like an airstone so I think it's plenty of oxygen for shrimp. Another tank has no water aeration (external filter) shrimp still doing great. So I think CO2 is not a big deal for shrimp and I've got a feeling that they even like it.

    @@ShrimpMania that is all great news! I have seen some other videos about CO2 killing shrimp but that could also mean that they are using a lot of CO2 or have done something outside the ordinary that caused their setup to kill their shrimp. I am excited to add shrimp to my setup. I have a feeling this is becoming an addiction!

    9:30 What a beautiful shrimp right there! if you don't mention it I thought that is a BOA shrimp hahaha. Recently I just got a shrimp from my friend but i dont know the name of it, its like BOA but its lack of the blueish color and only a little bit of metallic color, but the pattern is pretty similiar, is it considered as low grade BOA? or where can I share the picture to identify it?

    That red stuff at the back of a mirror is mercury. It is the very last thing you either want to put in your tank or to grind down without wearing a lot of protection and active masks. A brilliant tip that one day I will put to use making that filter box.

    @@ShrimpMania I realised that. It is possible that they no longer use mercury in mirrors but a metallic film instead. Still, one can never be too safe with not adding anything to a tank that you are not absolutely sure of. For the past hours I have been thinking about doing the same under-gravel filtration in a container, especially for a chichlid tank where normally they move gravel around. Unfortunately, in the country where I stay all crustaceans are banned in the aquarium trade as well as commercial fish farms therefore no shrimp here except on the black market, but I am not going to risk the massive fines.
