New SD23T4 Rebuilds Test on the Wabtec Test Track!

Ойын-сауық

We are finally back with another test train video. Action on the test track is starting to pick back up again after a relatively slow summer. Here we have a compilation of CSX's new ET23DCMs (SD23T4s) testing. These along with CSX CM44ACs were all that tested for the majority of the summer. These units tested much more that what is seen here, but this was all the footage we were able to get. Enjoy!

These new EMD rebuilds are some (I'll just say) "unique" looking units to be sure.

I agree they look pretty cool I guess Wabtec is the new name of General Electric while the new name for EMD is Progress Rail

They test engines pretty much every weekday and even sometimes on the weekends when it’s busy. It seems pretty random as for what times they run but late morning (around 1030) seems to be the best time although they do sometimes run them in the evenings or at night.

Thanks! At the Erie plant, most of the new rebuilds are CSX CM44ACs & NS AC44C6Ms. A few CN AC44C6Ms have also come out recently but not nearly as many of them as the CSX & NS ones

I like them better than the SD70ACe as the radiator is all the way back to the end of the hood where the ACe radiator doesn't look right with the Dynamic Brake compartment at the end.

What is a SD 23 T4 what kind of power plant does it have , and whats different about it? I see a different raideator configuration.

It’s really a ET23DCM (CSX gives loco models their own name). They are rebuilt from EMD SD40-2s with many parts of GE locomotives to make them Tier IV compliant. It is essentially a Tier IV GEVO inside the shell of an SD40-2 (with less horsepower).

Those are unique for sure. I liked the ST70AH's but this is sorta odd. Honestly, the more annoying part is the model number. They couldn't have made it any more forgettable could they
