Back when I was in High School back in the 70's, I had a friend that was strong Republican and I strong Democrat. We could actually sit down and have a discussion without a argument happening. We disagreed but respected each other opinion. As a society we need to get that back to that mindset.

Bill sometimes says things that everyone should be able to say, but are either too proud or too cowardly to say. I think that the real problem is there are too many people that can't just leave other people alone, including the ones that really SHOULD be left alone. And if there is another Civil War, it would be decided with guns, it will be with WMDs. We have an awful lot of them, and a General in charge that would rather talk to China than to a President he doesn't like. But the real question is, what would the rest of the world do without the USA? Settle old scores, I believe, and then.... then they would have to learn to speak Chinese, very quickly.

My Condolences on the loss of your friend, and for your previous difficulties. Maher has writers but he works closely with him and he says nothing onstage that he doesn't personally believe in. We are in a difficult situation here in the USA right now, as you are probably in a better position to appreciate than most of us are. It is uncertain how this will resolve. But know that there are many of us who agree with Maher, and who didn't need him to tell us how to be sane. For hundreds of years, people died so that our nation could remain. Let's not throw it away because the guy next door won't use your pronouns or doesn't like guns. The USA is uniquely nearly immune to actual physical threats (outside of nuclear) due to its geography and its control of the continent. If it were to split into two nations, a war could easily broil over hundreds of years. If we can't work in unity now, there's no guarantee we ever will. Differing opinions makes the country better, not worse, and splitting it up is just a bandaid. After a split, it's only a matter of time before the Left half becomes a debate between Liberals (like Maher) and Wokeists, and the right half becomes a debate between Libertarians and Fascists. Do we just keep subdividing down until we're 50 tiny countries? That is nonsense. America is BETTER for having more views. Disagreeing with people and finding compromises is not a downside.

IDK, I'm just an outside observer of this circus you guys call "the greatest country in the world", so maybe I'm missing something here, but why do people keep bringing this up as if it's some kind of a "gotcha"? What he said is true. He's just reporting. The hate is on both sides, yes, but it isn't equal. The Republicans are much more antagonistic, much more hateful, and much more violent than Democrats. What's more, in the case of the Republicans, it's stoken from above. Republican politicians and candidates for various offices are often fueling these feeling in their base by their speeches. Somebody please burst my bubble, but I don't see that happening on the other side.

@@Antis14CZ I can understand completely why an outsider would interpret it this way, but I'm going to take a stab at finding an analogy that might help explain, hopefully anyway... Have you ever been in a relationship or an argument with a person who passive aggressively stands in front of you smiling & telling you that blue is green? I've been liberal all of my life, but I cannot deny that the "compassion" & phony concern of the dems is just that; phony. Just because they're smiling, doesn't mean anything. My parents are republicans & I visit them every year. I see that they are frustrated because the young interpret straightforwardness & logic as inhumane & mean... when it's just about trying to take out the emotion from everything & get shit done. I spent this weekend cooking for a group of very successful, young female doctors from Brooklyn who were super nice. They sat for three hours around the breakfast table talking about positivity, social justice & socialism. At one point I heard one of them start to talk about her cat's vet visit & the conversation turned to veterinary doctor income. The last thing I heard before it became apparent that they were totally lost in their political identity was; "well the suicide rate of vet's is so high because they make than 100k a year!" The inconsistency of their conversation & stance was lost on them entirely. Ultimately I think republicans are frustrated because they want things dealt with in a straightforward manner without all the of emotion, victimhood & chaos. I'd much rather hang around with a wolf who wears his own clothes & tells it to me straight, than a wolf wearing sheep's clothing & smiling at me while he plots my death.

@@lahaza6515 Sorry, but no. That's some serious false equivalency you're trying to establish there. That "Getting things done" attitude you mention sounds nice, but only if the things getting done are actually good, and only if they outweigh the costs. If the things you're "getting done" are based on beliefs that are completely out of touch with reality, you may very well end up doing bad things. If your idea of "getting things done" means you'll do anything and crush anyone standing in your way to do it, you're doing a bad thing. And that's what the Republican party is doing right now. Many of their policies are based on propaganda, ridiculous conspiracy theories, and other lies. Getting those things done will only harm the people, but yeah, "things" will be "done", so I guess it's okay, right? Take abortion, for example. I have never met a person who wanted there to be more abortions in the world. Both parties want there to be less of them. However, the Republicans are stuck in their simplistic religious view of sin and outlawing the sin, while the Democrats actually go and ask "Is this the best way?" And as it turns out, no, just flat-out banning abortion is not the best way. That's not just an opinion, we have tons of studies to support that conclusion. Without thinking about what they're doing, the only things the Republicans "get done" are suffering and misery of the population. I fail to see how some women thinking some weird stuff about the connection between the salaries of vets and their suicide rates could possibly balance out something like that.

Let's say it like it is - we didn't hate each other. We lived for half a century without it. It was fed and supported from the outside. It is not natural to us. How can you tell? Belgrade, a former capital of Yugoslavia and currently Serbia, is filled every night with youths from the entire ex-YU region, singing the same songs and enjoying themselves. In Serbia we drool at original baklava and ratluk, we go to Sarajevo to get authentic fildžans and džezvas. Šljivovica from Serbia unites like nothing else. And we all consider Macedonian paprika the best for ajvar. We DO NOT hate each other. Never did. A small number of politicians and their criminal friends spoon feed us hate. And they did it in the late 1980's and then 1990's because USA wanted it to happen. Ain't it funny how the same people they supported then are still in power? And all good companies in Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia etc. are owned now by Germans, Austrians, Americans, Turkey? Funny how that ended up.

The last politician that has changed my views was Ron Paul, specifically because he painted how horrible it is to send just one person to a death sentence for a crime they didn't commit, which has been an issue even up into the modern era. I had to rethink my views on the death penalty realizing I too would rather people have life in prison rather than the death penalty if it just save one person for dying for something they didn't do. He also radically changed my view of drugs from taboo for irresponsible idiots and criminals to a civil liberty that rational free people of the proper age should have the freedom to partake in, accepting all the consequences of course. The problems in the USA/ the planet aren't the political beliefs of people, nor their outrage towards evil minds. It is messages like his here to ignore the vile actions of rich elite men. Killing people isn't an answer to take unless it's a life and death situation; "forgiving" them isn't enabling and or ignoring them, forgiveness is a personal feeling that shouldn't be confused with opening the facts of the horrors, addressing them accordingly. Defending Bezos because you don't like Musk, is ignoring the horrors of both each of these people that contribute to horrors in politics, etc. It's a club, and they depend heavily on misinformed people and those ignoring injustices. I disagree heavily with his "STFU" stance on the actions of Bezos, but then they have Yang on the same segment who was promoted by Musk and who even after the facts has continued to promote Musk and Grimes, both who are very vile and thoughtless people, making the point, ironically. It is ignoring injustice that has gotten society where it is at; it is the same stances of ignore this here now that got each of the horror world wars to go where they went. The difference in this time is, you have a lot more to lose, and a lot worse to gain / unleash. It is not the time to ignore anything or anyone, anywhere. Every evil act accounts towards the undesired future, and the creation of multiple outlets for it, an obvious move by the elite / political theater trying to plunge the planet and society into a more literal hell.

They were on the left years ago, but as the left has moved further left, his position never changed, and is now seen closer to the middle these days. Most republicans have moved to the middle and their views align more with old school liberals. That’s why people get confused to which side Bill is on. I see so many say that Bull has taken the Red Pill, but that’s not the case. It’s just the political shift has moved left, especially socially.
