You'd think governments would step up to help with these programs far more than they do just knowing how devastating the plastics are... But... Sadly so many countries can't see the damage it's causing, even when it's right in front of their own faces.

I remember Slat from years ago with his first ocean cleaning venture. I'm so glad he's still at it. This video was recommended to me because I had been watching videos on bricks made from plastic in Africa that are half the weight and 3 times stronger than normal bricks while being at the same price or cheaper than standard bricks. These new plastic-based bricks are tackling 3 crises at once: providing jobs with brick manufacturing. Solving homelessness with plastic based brick buildings. And cleaning up plastic pollution by recycling plastic. It would be great if Slat started making these bricks along with a whole host of similar plastic-based products that won't find their way back into the ecosystem.

The Mr. Trash Wheel vessel is part of the Waterfront Partnership of the City of Baltimore's "Healthy Harbor Plan." --- a great renaissance in garbage collection technology in the past 10 years and Mr. Trash Wheel is one of the pioneers, collecting over 3 million pounds of trash in Baltimore, Maryland.

@Panzer Blitz I'm an inventor, son...I have come up with countless useful wonderful inventions aiming at bettering the quality of life for ALL of humanity...since I was 9! My crowning jewel is a vehicle I am currently working on that can navigate through water, the atmosphere, and through outer space by using the combined collaborated effort of 3 latteral independent unidirectional motion and the force of inertia. It has no outside moving parts nor does it emit anything... The propulsion is internal. It will not only revolutionize aviation, but space travel as well... And get this...I will NEVER try something like scamming society with a pair of outrageously over priced sun glasses made out of garbage and then call it a "donation"... I plan on using every penny I make on my inventions and try to basically GIVE my inventions away to humanity... I do not desire lots and lots of money... I want only for the happiness of mankind... Like The Great Nikola Tesla, I AM a true inventor at heart. So there's your answer to your question, "How do you match that achievement?" Now I have a question for you... What size shoe does your mouth take?

@Panzer Blitz I only do it to people like you... You question me with your doubtful little attitude, I'm gonna put you in your place... And just a heads up, when you come to videos such as this one, I suggest you don't loosely challenge random people... Bc videos about inventions usually attracts curious inventors... And I tell you, I never met an ACTUAL inventor who isn't a genius. P.S. One, three, or even ten decent inventions does not qualify as calling oneself an inventor. An inventor is a never ending fountain of ideas!

And the next phase to implement is that the onboard computer identifies the source company of each piece of plastic and automatically bills that company for their contribution to the pollution and cost to extract it from the rivers. There would still be a lot of unidentified crap but the identifiable plastic being charged back to the company responsible for making it in the first place would change things a lot, methinks.

This is huge!!! TheOceanCleanup's team is doing an incredible work and the world should take notice and be a part of it. We need people to contribute to make this world better. Sadly due to few bad apples, our world seems to be going backward but there are people who are working tirelessly for the silver lining. The onus is on us to do our individual part. Thanks a lot for covering this.

Please treat these waters with the utmost respect and help those solution oriented people, and vessels , it's high time the worlds people treat mother earth as the beautiful living planet she is! There is only one flaw with this idea. What do you do with the waste once you collect it. If a significant amount of the plastic and other rubbish that is in the ocean is only there because countries don't have the means to deal with the amount of rubbish they have. So it will either end up being incinerated, stored in already overflowing garbage disposal or back in the ocean. It's a real pity because this idea would work perfectly if we had an effective way to deal with the garbage.

The problem is that there is no replacement for plastic nets. Nets made out of natural materials are too weak for devices that pull the nets in. They tear nets made of natural stuff apart at once.
