    Rico this is a good video. I just picked up a Red Sea reefer 350 that is currently cycling. As you stated, they are beautiful tanks. That being said, I do disagree that they are beginner tanks. I think the concept is beginner as they are plug and play. But in Canada where I reside, The Red Sea Reefer tank is about $2300. The average beginner does not have the money to drop 5K on a tank as a moderate build would be a minimum of 5K for this tank after lights, skimmer, return pump etc, In regards to your build, I think it should be a mixed reef with modestly priced equipment, Great channel by the way and keep up the good work!

    I’ve been looking at getting back into the hobby and this tank is what I’m settling on. I’d go jaebo pumps and power heads no apex, dj power strip, skimmer, ato, live rock, live sand, keep it simple and budget friendly. Lps and softy tank.

    Rico, really glad you are doing this right now, i currently have a 20 gallon tank and I'm thinking i want to upgrade to somewhere in the vicinity of 50 to 70 gallon tank. The Red Sea Reefer is one of my choices, as i like the all in one Kit Tank (makes it easier to purchase most of the components all at one time). I will be looking forward to see what the other 3 tanks are, thanks again for the guidance.

    Put a smile on my face when I saw a red sea build in the works. I'm thinking of the 425xl or 525xl. Not exactly a newbie, but what I would love to see is a simple start up focusing a lot of energy on the cycle process for folks. I want to use marco base and shelf rock so I have more useable space for coral. I would like to see some ecotech pumps creating flow and curious about your choice for a return pump. I would like to see the seperate tank used for ato turned into a seperate refugium because that's what others are doing and a ato and container in the other section of the cabinet. I would also like to see a DC powered skimmer. Also curious about your choice for a doser as most beginners will go this route instead of a reactor. Just a progression series would be cool. Maybe just an exclusive red sea product tank with the refugium change up. Keep it simple.That would be cool to see.

However I'd like to see a full sps, top equip, kz skimmer, geo ca rx, tunze 3152 ato, vortech pumps, new brs heater w/ temp controller, apex w/ trident and dos or a ghl system, bare bottom

    Hey Rico, thank you for starting this tank for beginners, it will be interesting to see what your going to do with it, I’ve only been in the hobby for eleven months so still a beginner, please can you explain the setup of the sump for me, specially how to adjust the water flow into the sump from the main display, so it doesn’t overflow, I don’t have a sump, I’m using an external filter and a built in filter on my juwel vision 260, it’s doing great but when I change to a bigger tank (I’m going to go for a Red Sea reefer) I would like a sump but I don’t know how it works, Kim (from the UK)

    I think if your going to do the beginner tank then go true to that. 90 percent of the new hobbyist isn’t going to have a apex isn’t going to have high end equipment I would love to see middle of the road equipment the one place most should never skimp out on is lighting and you got good lighting also I think it’s safe to say 100 percent of everyone started out mix reef even if that meant all of the sps died lol most likely not enough light / flow but that what everyone learned in the process also maybe toss on some newly out hardware to give it a test run that’s not crazy expensive that might catch that beginner eye. Talk about why you don’t go a certain route with equipment because well to say it nicely ... it’s shit lol

    I feel that most people getting into the hobby tend to gravitate towards a mixed reef. They want to try every type of coral out there starting off so that what I think should be done with this tank. As far as equipment goes, choose mid to upper tier equipment. heater: the new BRS Titanium heater of appropriate wattage (300w?) return pump: Sicce SDC 6.0 DC pump skimmer: Red Sea RSK 300 power heads: 2x Sicce Xstream SDC powerheads In particular I am interested in seeing how the sicce equipment I selected would work out for this system

    How about since this is a beginner tank and you have sticks and they are notoriously " hard" to grow in newer tanks. Having a guide on setting a simple mixed reef with some acros to get into the sps game without braking the bank. Maybe nero 5s or mp40s. Or gyres. Skimz skimmer. Varios return. Just some equipment that might be a little more afforable

  • @ddarden90
    @ddarden904 жыл бұрын

    Since we’re talking beginners, we should look at affordable and simple equipment options that’s tried and true. This way people can focus on what’s most important, stability of water chemistry and appropriate biology for that aquarium size. I’m thinking skimmer wise a bubble king or reef octopus or tunze DOC. Return pumps should be something affordable and reliable not DC controlled so like a Ehiem or tunze. For Heaters I like a titanium heater or a cobalt and with a tempt controller. It would be awesome if this was an LPS and softy tank. The LPS are getting a lot of love right now especially euphillias but a nice elegance or chalice are really eye catching too with great color and I think softies are so underrated. If you go LPS/softy tank then water flow should be simple too mp10 is great, gyres are good. I really want to see a Nero though I hear they’re simple to use with great flow. But then again if we’re going the route of less controllers and more focused on the basics then when I first started in 2010 I used hydor koralia and tunze turbelle and had great success.

    Rico for this tank I think you should go all Red sea. The skimmer, return pump power heads all the Red sea products on one tank. I do not think I have seen anyone on KZread that has a full Red Sea tank. Get a a Calcium Reactor go full sps with sand and Red Sea colors program. Red Sea test kitsch the whole nine and see if you can keep that tank on par with the beast.

    Initially start with the bare minimum of equipment to get the tank running. Then upgrade and add equipment as the build develops and matures. To make things interesting you can then compare and contrast budget equipment with more expensive. It’s my experience most people starting in the hobby tend to take this progression, getting equipment that is needed at the time and replacing with better equipment when able to. I also think looking into the West Mariculture bonsai scapes would be interesting. They are unique and bit different. I’m curious if scraping a tank exclusively with that product would require a good bit of rock or something like marine pure blocks in the sump since the west mariculture scapes are not really rock. Either way look forward to the build.
