AND NOW, FOR TODAY'S VIDEO....
Hello Shiny, Crafty People! Welcome back! Today I'm making an easy (or easier-than-you-would-think) seat cover for my car so that I don't get the nice seats messy after going to the gym or the beach.
I think I've got a total of $8 in materials in each one of these, as I can get a few out of a blanket from IKEA and a few feet of 420 denier nylon packcloth. We buy the packcloth wholesale, so your price might be a bit higher, but you can also substitute duck cloth or a treated canvas or even ripstop nylon.
IKEA Polarvide Throw ($3.99): www.ikea.com/us/en/p/polarvid...
Here's what you'll need:
An outer fabric (I chose the absorbent throw from IKEA, linked above)
An inner fabric (I like something water-repellant)
Sewing Machine
Marking Pen
Scissors or Rotary Cutter
If I'm not recording a video, I can make one of these covers in about fifteen minutes, but I've been sewing for about 30 years and I have already taken the measurements.
If you account for the time it would take to do the measurements of your seat, it's probably a 45-60 minute job.
I hope you enjoy this project and, until next time, stay crafty!!

To choose fabric size: Measure the length from the top of the back area, down to the "butt" area where it bends, then measure the horizontal seat and decide how far you want it to go over. On my car, this measured 62 inches. Then add an amount equal to the size of the "pocket" you want to add to hook it over the headrest. For my car, that was another 12 inches. Then measure the width of your seat and add a few inches. I cut my final fabrics at 74" x 30".

These will be great then! And could double as an extra layer for warmth or to pad a bed if needed.

Great pattern. I think that would work under a car seat, too. I have an upholstery protector for my dog in the back seat that spans the area between the back seats and the back of the front seats with loops and clips. Your pattern really helps avoid those accidents with the upholstered cushions. Thank you.

Hello shiny happy crafter, Tim! ☺️ I just wanted to let you know that I purchased your vertical pleat mask template today. I’m so excited to get it. Also, I adore your videos, you’re so calming to watch. (One of my favs). I’m getting back into machine sewing after a year of not wanting to do anything due to the pandemic. But I love you, stay safe and God bless 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I’ve been looking for something like this since getting my new ‘19 VW Beetle. You read my mind. I think I’m going to try it with terry cloth. Thanks Tim! 🙋🏼‍♀️

Just finished my Terry cloth version and will try to post photos on the Facebook site. I too am a runner and finally don’t have to play around with makeshift towels hanging all over my drivers seat. The Terry absorbs the sweat and can be easily washed. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙋🏼‍♀️

Hi Tim! I enjoy your videos. Suggestion. Make one of those covers for your arm rest. I know my hubby has the same problem and if I were to make a seat cover for him, I would make one for his arm rest also. He has a Lexus (older one, lol) and he rests his arm on it. sometimes. I also wanted to know what is name of the fabric you used in the demonstration?
