Seal was the right coach for Karise. He was absolutely brilliant. He was sensitive to her. He challenged her perception of herself and her voice. When she opened herself up and was vulnerable and honest, she was even more powerful. Shine on Karise.

Rare maturity and emoting from one so young. Karise’s music clearly comes from a place of pain and trouble. Aunty Marilyn and Uncle Frank are to be recognised for pulling her back from the edge.

That broke my heart into pieces: "I used to have a youth worker who'd laugh at me and say, 'this is your life and you have to stay here. I get to go home.'" WTF kind of "youth social worker" is that? No wonder we're failing our kids, and no wonder kids who get abandoned or in trouble so often end up repeat offenders or dead. She is a gift to this world.

I can personally attest to the fact that many social services workers are like this. Not many people are truly suited to those jobs, as they're incredibly stressful and emotionally demanding. I wouldn't be surprised if the people with the best personality for the work get compassion burnout and don't last. It's so heartbreaking, and kills me to think about. Children deserve the best that society has to offer and shouldn't have to suffer because of unfortunate circumstances over which they had zero control.

It has always struck me that her voice is her emotion personified. The first singer I have ever heard that the "texture" and tone of her voice are perfect and effortless, because she didn't have to create the feelings, she's already experienced all the pain. Karise has taken the worst that has happened to her, and converted it to something wonderful.

I come back to this video every so often to get that special connection made when someone gets a chance in life instead of disappointment. Seal is an amazing human and connects with her on a level they both needed at the same time. Magic was made and she deserved to win. Her voice is magic plus Back to Black was her's more than the other lady. Song choice is also very key.

All I can say is, Lucky you ! What's cool....maybe she knows what international fame can turn into, how greed can warp one's best intentions. Personally , I despise this manufactured system of monetary dependency . Good for her...appears she has the right out look, certainly one I can appreciate anyway. I play guitar, violin and harmonica, can't sing a note worth a damn. Always been partial to blues, real blues, not pop with a little blue flavor, but gut wrenching, rip out your heart blues ....blues that originates in your soul ...blues you can taste, If you have it , even a little bit, you know it the minute you hear it...ya can't easily fake it , it's not the same. I dislike what these contests try and turn people into....for all their bull shit rhetoric their bottom line is exploitation for profit....not that this is anything new, but there was a time when a artist could pedal their efforts to a independent radio station...catch a DJ's ear and get air time...one person believing you had the right sound and deserved a go....sounds like ancient history. Corporations have literally destroy everything...creativity with any success means obedience ! Ironically, it's become a culture the blues understand ! Karise, her voice is one of a kind , keep it, do what you want ,..don't fall for the corporate deceit...you don't need them...the internet is open and for now anyway, still free. Keep on trucking kid !
