As a pigment nerd/historian, I am having an absolute fit over these new naturals paints! I definitely recommend getting Lalvarit, I have the pigment and it makes the prettiest gray-violet, plus it is volcanic in origin and that is just fun. I am pretty excited about the dragon's blood, I have been debating making some myself but have not found a source for the pigment that I am happy with the purity. Stil de grain is also pretty exciting, it is made from the unripe berries of the buckthorn tree, the ripe berries make the original sap green, I have made the OG sap green but not the yellow, knowing that I can just easily get it from Schmincke rather than stinking my house up making pigments in summer is very tempting. I am also tempted by the Kamala, it is another pigment I have found tricky to get my hands on. I know a lot of these plant based pigments are not as lightfast, but I love them for the history and also there is just something so fun about using pigments made from plants. I make a lot of lake pigments and you can get some crazy intense colors from traditional dyes.

@@PaintinHiding If you don't want to go through the hassle of making it yourself (and totally fair) Poems About You has Lalvarite as a watercolor, I used it before I bought the pigment and can definitely recommend it as a good watercolor!

First! What?! I am interested in the liquid earth colors, but most of the naturals are not lightfast, so they can only be used for sketchbooks, unless you make prints. Nice for a collection I guess. And the packaging is lovely. Thanks for the info Vee!😘

I just saw these in a catalogue some days ago. I am really indifferent what I should think. Do I need those? No. Do I want those? Certainly not all of them. I don’t know why but I am most interested in PW18 🤔 Isn’t NB1 the genuine indigo pigment? I saw someone swatch it here on KZread from another brand. It’s was probably Dr. Oto Kano and a Kremer palette? Not sure though… 🤔🤔

SO EXCITING! Thank you for showing these! I just saw these vegan paints today and thought, how could i have missed them before ! (Too bad they all looked out of stock until April). In terms of the pigments because you asked, Della Magna watercolors has Kamala, NO2 and Indigo, NB1 as does Nila Colori and MaimeriBlu for their genuine Indigo. I haven't seen NY3 before nor the Lalvarit Violet; can't wait to try. I wonder how these compare to Lutea :) I guess Cochineal can't be vegan but would be nice in this natural pigment range as would be a Weld Yellow, NY2 and maybe NY14, both I've seen in Wallace Seymour and Della Magna.

In this age of digital illustration, we can make paintings using any coloring material, scan and print. Lightfastness not an issue for this purpose. I guess the lure of products like Naturals is the " feel " of using them. Curiosity in mixing, will curcuma and indigo yield a beautiful green. ?

I WANT! As a pigment nerd collector who knows about lightfastness but still intentionally buys and uses fugitives and has a collection and does mixed media watercolour with gouache a lot. I want! But it’s sold out and I have little money. Would be great if I could get it eventually sadly I’m inCanada and Schminke is crazy expensive here and there is many other paints I desire and enjoy for a much lower price… still I do want all of these!

Honestly, I'm not that excited about the Naturals range either. I'd rather have limited edition watercolors with unique lightfast pigments, or at least no dyes. The swatches also looked more like acrylic paint rather than watercolors. Stil de Grain is the color that interests me the most, but I'll wait for reviews first. Most of the pigments can be found at Kremers Pigments, at the least in the raw unprocessed form. Indigofera (NB1) can also be found at Kremers Pigments as a watercolor, called Genuine Indigo. I have this, it is a dye but I love its deep intense colour.

I have seen NB1 before in the indigo. I want to say it was A. Gallo? I don’t believe I have seen any other ones though NO2, NY3 and NY13. I am intrigued. Thank you for giving us the scoop! I had no idea these were coming out!

I have a version of stil de grain from Nila Colori, lovely and delicate when freshly painted. But sadly rather fugitive if exposed to even moderate light. It is a historic pigment, maybe Schmincke has found a way to stabilise it more? Looking again I also have a version of dragon’s blood I really like that is sold by Renaissance from Poland (?) and Zecchi of Florence. Red Bole is sold by Kremer, and is used to prepare items for later application of gold leaf. I do like the look of all these products though….. the liquid earths would look wonderful on toned paper.

Discovered this a week ago (also did a video about it 😁). I'm most interested in the Lalvarit violet. A lot of the plant based pigments aren't lightfast so would be careful with them. The official release for the Horadam naturals is the first of March. Not sure if they release it everywhere similar or others will be a little bit after Germany. Best wishes 💜

Agallo also has NB1, I think its name is Indigo

I am curious about the colors I might not have, but will have to research it. No need to be a completist AKA falling victim to "full set syndrome". Some of these would be duplicated via other brands commercial and or Etsy handmade watercolor brands. Let's hold on there a minute before spending a small fortune... haha!

Curcuma is the botanical name of turmeric.

I’ve bought NB 1 indigo from mi merri blu. I know I spelled that wrong lol. But it’s not lightfast.

I have several issues with this. "Plant extracts"? There are very good reasons why plant extracts, lake pigments, etc. have fallen out of use. No reason to reintroduce them, unless you enjoy to see the colors of your work slowly fade away over the course of a couple of months 5:08 /years..... And what does the statement "a perfect fusion of watercolor and gouache" mean? Anyone who knows what watercolor and gouache actually is, knows this is a nonsensical statement. I must say, this sort of marketing make me a bit more weary of the brand that is trying to sell me this kind of bs.

A lot of brands release new products. They release it because there’s a market for it. It’s up to you how you’d take it. Re Fugitive paints. Opera Rose, a highly fugitive paint and yet, it does not fade in just couple of months. Moonglow is fugitive yet DS claims it is lightfast 🤷‍♀️ Gouache is opaque watercolor. Watercolor is mostly transparent. If you read Schmincke’s website, “Mat and mostly semi-/transparent”

@AisuKurimu_ If you enjoy painting with fugative paints, more power to you. (Do inform your customers if you are selling that your art has a "best before" date). Personally I think it is rather scandulous that a brand markets expensive paints as "artist grade" when those colors are clearly fugitive. That lack of quality makes them non artist grade. And nowadays there are enough lightfast alternatives to any fugitive pigment. And you give an example of blatantly lying about it (the moonglow) as a kind of justification? Never blindly trust the info a seller gives about his product.

@@edzejandehaan9265 100% I enjoy painting with fugitive paints. They mostly have nice hues. A lot of professional artists use fugitive paints and inks. Thats why they scan the original and sell prints. Some artists do not use pigment inks for their prints, they use dye inks which are not lightfast. I’d rather prefer a company that is transparent about the pigment info than a company who labels their paints “genuine” but does not actually have the “genuine” pigment.

Hi, i don't really get what's the interest of the natural range... being between watercolor and gouache... is it to opaque to be a good watercolor and too transparent to be a nice gouache 😅? What are the pro's ? Except for vegan people, it looks like a marketing trick..🤨 or am I missing something ?

They have the transparency of wc and as you build up in layers they can become as opaque as gouache. Hmmm. Imagine the possibilities of what you could create with that. It's not a gimmick. These are great paints actually. The super granulating paints everyone died over was a big gimmick tho. Know your pigments and paints and instead of spending a literal fortune just mix even better granulating paints yourself and on top of that you will be able to create not only granulating colors but granulating color separating mixes. Or just go buy Daniel Smith who is the gold standard of granulating paints for way less. Especially there primatek line, all those granulate. Can't afford Daniel Smith then go buy the white nights granulating paints which are better then the hordam granulating paints. But if people knew there color mixing and paints/pigments people wouldn't of bought into the whole super granulating marketing in the first place. The naturals are awesome actually. Still de grain, curcuma, Kamala and rugen chalk are great. Dryers green just a mix of curcuma and indigo. Just get those two tubes and mix the color yourself to get the hue and saturation you want/need. These paints are indeed special. And I'm not easily swayed or fooled for that matter. I know a gimmick when I see one. This isn't it.

I saw them come up on Jacksons but couldn’t understand how they different from their normal range other than the fact that they were vegan and although I love all the colours I was certain I had most of them already in one brand or the other. However, if anyone sees these been demonstrated could they leave a link because I would be very interested to see what they are like in action

Winged art channel has them search winged art hordam natural watercolor . She's also a talented artist as well. Does really great portraits and did 2 with these paints which turned out amazing. Especially since she used them straight out the tube and the texture is tricky straight out the tube. These are actually great paints. It's not just a gimmick like there super granulating colors. These are actually a cross between gouache and watercolor made and extracted from actual plants and also minerals. Also nothing in the paints besides gum Arabic. WAY Different from the earth colors you usually buy in tubes.. They build up to a gouache consistency and get darker as you build them up but start off as a very light color as you slowly layer them up. They are actually fantastic paints and capable of many different effects and painting styles. The texture you can get dry brushing with these is awesome, you don't even have to try.. it just happens. But if you don't want that texture dry them into Pans and use cold press paper. Still de grain cannot be mixed or duplicated. It's the most beautiful warm yellow with a slight green undertone and also has a delicate warm brown that can be seen when washed out or if you build it up in layers it becomes more yellow brown. It is very weird as the colors don't separate either they just naturally graduate on there own when washed out. The swatches shown are not accurate on the screen. Rugen chalk, curcuma and Kamala are also special. The dryers green is just a mix of the indigo and curcuma. Better of getting these two tubes and mixing cause then you have control and flexibility to make a soft muted green or a more yellow translucent green and everything in between. On a side note we have cave paintings made with these extracts that last to this day so I don't believe that's a concern. I don't believe they are fugitive . Especially if not diluted with tons of water. If people actually took the time to read the descriptions and understood what these are, where they are from, how they are made and are experienced enough to realize how unique a hybrid watercolor/gouache paint actually is and the things you could create with these paints and effects you can get then I don't think I would be seeing all these negative comments. What makes me mad is everyone raves about the dumb super granulating colors when it is just a stupid gimmick. Know your pigment numbers, paints and color mixing and not only will you be able to create better granulating mixes then hordam but color sperating and granulating mixes at that. And on a final note jist because you have one indigo from one paint maker.. that isn't the end all seen all. All hues and also characteristics differ from paint brand to paint brand. Also the indigo or "madder lake" you have from Daniel Smith or Windsor and newton is not created by extraction from indigo leaves or madder roots. To my knowledge no one on Etsy is creating a hybrid wc/gouache either. In fact I don't think there out there crushing up tumeric root either for that matter.

Those "Naturals" aren't lighfast and as you said nothing new for the others. Just a marketing operation.

I was so excited about them doing vegan paints but the colors didn't float my boat. Then I read @azuresjewels comment and now I'm excited again.
