Nice thing about gas is that it works in any gas powered machine and doesn't lock you into a specific brand's ecosystem. Also, 50k for a 46" mower? Gonna need to cut a lot of grass or charge twice as much to break even on that thing.

That prototype did indeed light on fire at last year's show. One prototype problem doesn't justify "DeWALTs all light on fire." I'm looking forward to some on-the-job reviews from pro landscapers.

@@ToolShow Agreed. The problem is they focus more on the batteries and the tools lose the attention. I have even seen Dewalt and others give away tools for buying batteries. Ryobi is famous for this. What a wonderful world it would be if all the batteries were universal and the tools were more the focus.

That EGO tractor is VERY interesting! I hope they're adding the equivalent of differential lock. Also hope they consider selling multiple battery configurations (e.g. 6x6AH, 6x10AH, etc.). I could use six more 10AH batteries (for other tools) as opposed to six 6AH batteries -- and I could use the extended runtime.

They didn't shelf it for a year, they spent an additional year developing their prototype like any other company developing new tech. Prototypes will have problems. That's why you make them. Sucks it caught fire last year, but it's literally part of the process. The only mistake was POSSIBLY (I'm not involved so I don't know) showing it to the public before they should have. But I'm not mad. I'm thrilled they're pushing the technology and innovating. That's how things change for the better.

That's a pretty old argument you dug up. Tesla was already using cobalt-free LFP batteries last year. Battery producers are making progress. The grid is being built up. And the environment has been taking a beating for a very long time, and suddenly deniers seem to be coming out of the woodwork to say "No, climate change still doesn't exist... unless of course it's being caused by batteries, then it totally exists, and it's because of batteries, and not because of the oil we've been using for 90 years." >.< Pollution is bad no matter what's causing it. It's up to each of us individually to make choices to combat it, including what we buy, how we manage waste, and who we vote for.
