The middle requires a DM true velvet single in the middle. To complete the set. The Air Norton being hotter is intentional. So you can lower the neck pick up. That way during high pitch solos up the fretboard you won't hang your string up on the humbucker. The velvet single is also hotter than the Tone zone. You can lower it too

The Air Norton was originally designed to be used as a bridge pickup, but then someone discovered it sounded great as a neck pickup.

It's too bright for the bridge but my favorite all time neck pickup. My favorite bridge pickup is actually the Air Zone, followed by the Norton and Tone Zone. Wonderful pickups.

@@mattltech I always recommend the Air Zone to anyone who wants something in between a Norton and Tone Zone. It's got good low end response but is not as bassy, and it has great harmonics like the Norton. But I wouldn't call it a hot PAF tone like the Norton. It's very much its own thing.

great setups. on thing i'd like to point out is that usually the setup rule that says a pickup should be 2-2,5 mm from the string is valid if the action is usually the classic one (based on former Fender setup) - 1,4-1,5 mm High E string and 1,8-2mm low e string. If you have let's say action of 1mm on both High and low E strings, generally for Dimarzio type pickups I found that works best in terms of picking dynamics, output, sustain, etc to have it like this: press the string at the 17th fret (both high and low E strings) and then measure 1/8' of an inch or 3,2mm between string and pickup for each of the 2 humbuckers (this I found for Ibanez guitars with 24 frets, not speaking for other brands).

The middle pickup little foam pieces will rebound after a while and push back up tight against the pickup , my Jackson sl3 has two single coils that are like that , the volume is always louder over the neck pickup , bigger vibrations in the string the there than the bridge , I always have my neck pickups really low , I play mostly clean on the neck

for the middle pickup consider a hotrail pickup.. It;ll be a good combination. The Air Norton was a bridge pickup originally hence why it's powerful sounding in the neck.

The hot rails sound like dog shit. I have a gold railed Air Norton S in my JEM and I fucking hate the thing. Idk what I was thinking getting the gold rails anyway... Doesn't match anything on my guitar. I would gladly trade this thing for a better pickup. I have a Tone Zone and a neck Evolution hb sitting in my guitar stuff box that I'd also trade or sell. My current neck hb is a Gravity Storm and the bridge is an Evolution. I don't mind my current sound, but I am maybe considering wiring the Tone Zone back up to check with this Gravity Storm, but this Air Norton S has gotta go for sure. I'm thinking about trading it for a Virtual Solo

Nice video, Mr. Nery! Yeah, overly loud neck pickups used to plague my guitars. I’ve learned to always use low output neck pickups. Always. I think people use pickups that are way too hot for the neck position. It’s tough to balance. Actually, these days I’m on the hunt for really mellow bridge pickups

also works if you lower them, as with low action it's better to have them low as well - this will increase sustain and also a lot less compression/output, but still loud

Wow I been looking for a new humbucker in the bridge position for my American Profession 2 Strat in HSS. That pickup in the Bridge is super ballsy, it kind of has that PAF sound with the higher treble

The Tone Zone is about the best thing you can do for a strat. It really beefs it up, fills it out, and you get better harmonics that don't flatten out or cheese out, and the high-end notes are rounded. And chords absolutely rock and sing out with great sustain. I've been using the Tone Zone in strats since 1991 when they hit the market. Literally the day they hit the market I got one at Guitar Center and had my friend wire it into my Charvel. A week later I played The Roxy with a silly hair band I was in, played it through my Boogie, and it sounded amazing. The way I describe the Tone Zone is that it's as if DiMarzio took a JB and fixed all the imperfections.

The Tone Zone has too much low end for a PRS. You need at least strat scale, so 25.5, not the 25 scale of a PRS or god forbid 24.7 scale of a Gibson, and you can't put them in any mahogany setneck because they will sound muddy. But you put a TZ in a thin sounding trebly strat and it will sound incredible.

It really depends on the guitar, I'm using it on a rg970qmz (darkwood neck) and it works amazingly. The DiMarzio pickups it came with were very muddy and low-mid heavy, not a whole lot of treble but I think they would have worked great with a maple neck. The tone zone gave me the treble boost and clarity that I needed, but on a maple neck I can see it being a bit overkill in the treble department!

The Tone Zone works well in any ax that sounds a little thin and trebly. It's a bright but full sounding pickup. I don't think it's trebly. The high end is better than on most high output pups.

The 370 has nothing to do with finish. 370 3 : lower tier, made outside Japan. There's some exception such as RGT320, RGA321, which are Prestige series. But usually RG3xx are all made in Korea/Indonesia. 70 : HSH pickups without pickguard. My 655 has TZ and AN, bridge is perfect for Metallica and neck is shreddy. I don't play clean so those pair are the best for me.
