Every time I fill up the tank of my car with petrol, I see a range of 730-740 km. Why should I take a step backwards with an electric car?

Because electricity is far cheaper, and much smother to drive, and much more fun. Among other things.

@DanRyzESPUK other things: slow, occupied or broken chargers, charging under the direct sunlight, breathing exhausts while charging on noisy rest areas on the autobahns or crawling the right lane between the trucks, 100 kmh max to increase the range... No, thanks, I prefer charging fair 0-700 in 3 minutes anywhere I want

Because sometimes making a sacrifice in one area can give you benefits in other areas? Maximum range of a car is a case of diminishing returns. Once you have enough range, there’s very little benefit in having even more range. With EVs you might have less maximum range when compared to ICE cars. But the range is still enough for vast majority of driving. And for the times it’s not enough, you have chargers available. Plug the car in, have a cup of coffee and you are ready to proceed. In return you get cheaper operation, better performance, low maintenance and more space. Let’s turn the question around: why should EV driver take a step backwards and drive an ICE car with less practical performance, noisy engine taking space and which needs regular maintenance, toxic fumes spewing everywhere and expensive fuel that you need to obtain from a special service-station? And if you have the possibility to charge at home or at work, you will always have max range available when you start driving, as you can charge the car when you are not using it. And unlike with ICE cars, you don’t have to waste time in gas stations refilling the car.

@@Zereniti77 good points, but I have some remarks. "Better performance" - maybe when you drive 100 km/h. When I drive in Netherlands, I have 1000 km range. When I drive in Germany, it is twice less, because I drive at max. speed all the time. And BEVs cannot drive at max speed all the time - after several minutes you get an overheat warning, at least in Tesla Model 3 Performance. Is this what you call performance, a pit stop every 30 minutes if your battery doesn't discharge earlier? "noisy engine taking space" = "toxic battery taking space". "And if you have the possibility to charge ... at work", then you will need to take a break to re-park your car once it is charged to make the charger available for others. Good luck - during the day the parking lot is normally fully occupied ;-) "toxic fumes spewing everywhere" vs "toxic fumes spewing everywhere ELSE" in case of BEVs: just look at the distribution of energy sources in your country and in China, the energy doesn't come out of nowhere, even when you pay extra for "green electricity". "Plug the car in, have a cup of BAD coffee and you are ready to proceed" - to proceed 100 kms to the next charger. Most of BEVs do not charge so quickly. Take a deep breath of exhausts in the middle of nowhere for the next 40 minues. Let's see what future brings. In my opinion: it is too early.
