"Palisades Park" is a song written by Chuck Barris and recorded by Freddy Cannon.
Barris wrote a song about an amusement park and it was suggested he use the name of an amusement park as the title. One night he was in Manhattan when he looked toward the New Jersey Palisades Cliffs, on which the amusement park sat. That was when inspiration hit and the title was added. Years later the Palisades Amusement Park closed, on September 12, 1971. A tribute to New Jersey's Palisades Amusement Park, it is an up-tempo rock and roll tune led by a distinctive organ part. The track also incorporates amusement park sound effects, including the sounds of screaming riders on the roller coasters, and the quoting of a slower version of "Entrance of the Gladiators", played on an organ imitating a hurdy-gurdy or calliope. In the song, the singer takes a walk after dark and discovers Palisades Park, where he meets and falls in love with a girl. Among the list of rides and attractions listed in the song are: Shoot the Chute, Rocket Ship, Roller Coaster, Loop the Loop, Merry Go Round, Tunnel of Love, and the Ferris Wheel.
Released by Swan Records as a B-side to "June, July and August," "Palisades Park" broke in when a Flint, Michigan radio DJ played it by mistake. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 23-30 June 1962, On the Hot R&B Sides chart, the song went to #15. "Palisades Park" was the biggest hit of Cannon's career.

Thanks for taking the time to share the great songs from the past. I have always said that from the 60's through the 80's were the best 30 years of 🎶 music 🎶

Allow teenagers from the James Monroe projects in Da Bronx,( yes, Da Bronx) would go most weekends and especially on Easter to Palisades Park to see the Free shows and go on the rides. Ahh , the GOOD OLD days. The"60s."

This is an excellent song. Somehow the composition, the tonality and the general mood of the song happens to be so that this song really can cover some mileage. Such a gem, these don’t happen often.
Loved this song. I was 10.
I remember when this came out. Kids today never heard of Palisades Park. I went there.

Wow!!!! Thats very cool!!!!!! Had he made this song popular yet???? What a great song!!! I was pretty small when this came out but I remember my brothers playing on the record player a lot. Later in life, my older brother who is an amazing musician, still plays this song!! What became of your cousins?????
What a hoot! Great job, Sammy! Great video with a great DES! Can't be beat! This is probably the 1st time I've ever seen Freddy Cannon performing.

Had the pleasure as a kid in the 60,s to go to Palisades Park many times. GREAT TIMES!
Lol so in 1966 our family piled in our station wagon and got on the Nj turnpike to go to Palisades Park for the day, we only went out 1 or 2 times a year, we were poor, 13 kids in the family, 8 from another marriage, it was the 60s, anyway we start up the turnpike and our radiator blew!!😂 By the time we Got it fixed the park was closed and never went to Palisades Park!

@@janmuldoon Thanks! We never did make it! So, in 1967 ( I was 10)we rented a house in Seaside Nj- across the street from the boardwalk for 1 week! I thought we were rich!!! Paid $125 for the week. Then in 2008 on until today, I own 6 homes at the beach, I learned to save every penny I earned and invest etc. I use to wax by hand my vinyl siding, neighbors would laugh!, I explained when you grow up poor you value everything.!! Oh the stories I could tell lol. Builds character!! 3 children, 7 grandchildren later , Life is Good!!

A Dance'in song, oldie but a goodie lol 😄🎤🎶🎸💕
Nem eu sei dizer o quanto amo essa música! ❤️
Palisade Amusement Park was across the Hudson River I used to go I remember so well😂
In the late 1950's especially by 1959 most rock/pop music had gotten kind of sappy. It was rescued by Freddy 'Boom Boom' Cannon with this song and Tallahassee Lassie. It was an excellent effort on his part (as I believe he and his mother wrote his own material). Otherwise the previously mentioned sappyness continued on until about 1963/1964 when the Beach Boys and Beatles brought back the rock (honorable mention also goes out to Del Shannon - 1961's Runaway.

Great stereo sound Sammy! I was there once, just before it closed. By then it had lost it's appeal. Thanks, happy 4th!

This looks like it is from a show called Swingin' Time, which aired on and was produced by CKLW-TV in Windsor, Canada. The station's main market was right across the river in Detroit. I worked there after the state owned Canadian Broadcasting Corporation bought the station.
I'm glad that the music is still "in" and that tie and jacket are out. As for the hair ...
Thanks superb!

Reminds me of Nat Park in Spokane!! ;-)
Unreasonably hard to find this song I heard in a family guy episode. Like 3 google searches.
Cannon did a decent cover of "20th Century Fox" by the Doors.
Park now is full of homeless people... :(
